Old School Musicianship… Rock and Roll.. Jazz… Blues… Big Band even…

Birthday wishes to Billy Joel, born this day, May 9, 1949, 75 years young. He has an enormous catalog with a ton of hit songs so choosing just one isn't easy, but I thought I'd go with this one. It was a huge hit at the time but I haven't heard it in quite some time.

Billy Joel - Just the Way You Are

Birthday wishes to Donovan, born this day, May 10, 1946, 78 years young.

Donovan - Sunshine Superman

In another lifetime (decades ago), I briefly played in a band with a vocalist who sang this song, really well.

Much to my surprise, I found I could sing it too, and as a guitarist, I knew I could play it too.

While I still love this song, maybe it was a futile belief from days of old... but still....

Led Zeppelin - Hey, Hey, What Can I Do

I don't have the words to describe how obsessed I was with this song 40 years ago... or now...

The Vapors - Turning Japanese

George Benson... is any more comment even needed?

I didn't think so either.

George Benson - On Broadway

I love George (and that's three Georges that I'm a big fan of) but you really need to hear the uncut version from the album to really appreciate it.

George Benson - On Broadway (live - full version)

Birthday wishes to Eric Burdon, born this day, May 11, 1941, 83 years young. He has one of those voices you recognize almost immediately.

The Animals - We Gotta Get Out of This Place

Here's another 70s song I haven't heard in ages. Too much good music is being forgotten. I wonder where it will be in another generation or two?

Johnny Rivers - Swayin' to the Music (Slow Dancing)

Takin' Care Of Business - 1975
Song by Bachman–Turner Overdrive

Okay, dig this.

True story.

I normally work from home, but a couple days ago I needed to go into the office. I get back to my truck, load in the equipment I picked up… and turn the key to start it before I got in - because I wanted that cold AC blowing…

And with my door open, the stereo cranked up (because… me!) … that cool guitar intro starts blasting… I didn’t plan that, and didn’t even realize which song was blasting through the parking lot at first… but when I realized it was this song??? I laughed like a crazy woman. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

There are some things that just seem to touch our hearts at weird times, like good music across the miles with the people we love  🥹🥲🥰
