But I take issue with this comment. Being submissive does not mean you practice being tied up and beaten in real life. Being submissive is a state of mind as much as anything else, Alice. If this is how you see yourself, if this how you feel best about yourself, then this is what you are.

It's about comfort and being comfortable in your own skin. Whether that be as a Dom or a switch or a submissive/slave. If this is where you feel best and where your bliss is (or where you want it to be) then this is what you are.

You really should stop seeing yourself as second class here. I'm betting no one else views you as that. ;-)

And if I've offended you again, I apologize.
Respectfully, I take issue with you taking issue with how I define myself. Please don't do it again.

Thank you for your supportive comment, but I actually do not see myself as second class, either here or anywhere else.

You did not offend me. No need to apologize.

Alice

Count on it. Won't ever happen again.

I voted sub and oldest child. I'm not sure if that is entirely accurate as I have two older half siblings but as they were already married and having children when I was not yet born... I think I can claim that title.

Yes, you're kinda right... according to the psych classes I've had and the books I've read.

Actually, if there is more than 5 or 6 years between you and the next oldest sibling, you are considered an only child. One psychologist calls it a second family.

And one other side note, they say that by the age of 5 or 6 your personality is set as is your birth position. Therefore, blended families (step siblings) with older and/or younger siblings don't affect your actual birth place in the family.

Was that clear as mud?

I'm the middle child, but I mostly grew up with my younger brother.

I used to tie him up ;) it was fun! Once I nearly strangled him to death by accident.

Oldest of two girls, and sub.

You have a lot of oldest/sub votes. That's kinda interesting, in relation to the comment in the original post, but the poll can't really cover all the other possibilities (like second of five kids, or whatever) so lots of 'other' too. :)

My littlest sister is 16 years younger than me. Frankly my step brother is the closest to her in age and he's . . . 12 years older than her. And she is TOTALLY an only child. She's closer to my kids in age than any of us.

Also my half brother was raised by my step mom and dad. He's the oldest of my step mom's kids. My sister moved in with them when she was 15 and Nathan was 7 - and he's still more like an older child than anything. My step mom said that one of the reasons that Nathan and Miss would fight so much was Miss thought that because she was the oldest child that Nathan would just automatically start acting like the younger child. But cause Miss had always been the youngest when she and Nathan would fight she'd ACT like the youngest.

For instance once Nathan left a bunch of thumbtacks outside her bedroom door, pointy side up. Luckily Miss saw them. Miss immediately went and tattled - a younger child reaction. If Nathan had done that to me I'd have beat the crap out of him - an older child reaction. (BTW - Nathan never did stuff like that to me. )

I said youngER child, not youngEST. As in anyone who isn't the oldest.

Why yes, yes you did.
This is what I get for posting at a quarter to one in the morning, when I've had five hours sleep and am insisting I am awake enough to be posting coherently. :)

It's ok. I think you're not the only one who didn't notice that. I've got a few people who posted 'other' who are middle children. Oh well. I'm learning these poll things. Next poll I'll be clearer.

Oldest and sub -
For me this is, I think, a function of having been given a lot of responsibility at a very young age - both of my younger siblings call me Mom and I'm only 5 years older than they are. Being sexually submissive was a way for me to give some of that control away.
That having been said, don't get in my way at school or work. I am a totally take charge person in those positions - mostly because there is no way that I am going to get my ass chewed on over something that I was not directly responsible for. Now, if I (all by myself) screwed something up I'm definitely due for a yelling at. But don't fuss at me when it was some other random team member that made the mistake.

I'm an only.

Sexuality-wise I'm Dominant. Socially I tend to be pretty neutral, neither especially a follower nor especially a leader.

Oh. Going on ADR's info, I'm an only cause I'm 8 years younger than the asshole. Which probably explains why I don't have typical younger child reactions. My response to sibling rivalry was to take the offensive, though usually in quite sneaky ways. Cupcake anyone?

Sorry, that's very younger child-like. My sisters are like that totally. I was always in trouble cause I'd publically beat the crap out of them. They'd wait till mom wasn't looking to do their stuff.

And no, I don't think I want a cupcake.

I thought tattling and running to mom was the younger sib way to do it. Sure you don't want a cupcake?

As the oldest, I'd beat the crap outta my younger siblings. Until my brothers both got bigger than me.

Tattling when I was doing something was the younger sib way of doing it. But when it came to antagonizing me they were always sneaky. They prefered if it looked like I was just picking on poor little them. I was never good at playing the game, so I was in trouble more often. Now days my sister even says she deserved the beatings I gave her. She'd spend days doing everything she could to piss me off. Sometimes weeks. Like when we first got our own rooms. She'd be bugging me so I'd go into my room and shut the door. So she'd stand outside rapping on the door, calling to me . . .putting her fingers under, etc. But if mom was around she'd be in her room playing with her dolls like a good little girl. The next time she did that - stuck her fingers underneath the door I SQUISHED EM.

And yes, I'm sure I don't want a cupcake.

Actually, the baby of the family prefers not to be sneaky. They like the attention and an audience for their precocious behavior.

The baby (who is less than 5 years away from his nearest sibling) is an entertainer and loves to be the center of attention, even if it's negative attention.

Somebody needs to tell my sister that. She wanted to be the center of attention - but only if it was good attention. And fyi - we're 15 months apart in age. She had no trouble with letting me get in trouble for things she'd done. She did it all the time.

Hey, I never said this was hard and fast. I said this is what MOST birth order proponants say. And I'm definately not an authority on any of it.
