Simon stepped out of the building, it was about 6pm, enjoying the little sunlight before nighttime. He was in the middle of writing his thesis, and he had to focus on it. He had already worked on it for 2 years and wanted to finish it as fast as possible. He already studied 7 years at the same university, it was time to move on.

He sat down on a bench, expanding his long legs (he was 6'5) and let the sun shine on his face. Relaxing, he thought he would fall asleep.
Suddenly, his watch rang. He had planned to meet his friends at the local bar.

He walked fast, not wanting to be late, and didn't see the girl coming from his right. They ran into one another and she dropped her book.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, are you ok?" he asked and helped her to pick the books up.

Krista's last class of the day let out and she walked out in time to catch the last light of the sun. She sighed. In another week or so, it would be dark before class got out, and she'd have to settle for seeing daylight on weekends. She walked slowly across the campus, thinking about the lesson, dressed like so many other girls with tight jeans tucked into high heeled boots and a sweater that hugged close to her curvey figure. She wasn't thinking about where she was going, and then suddenly this man bumped into her. She nearly fell on her ass, and dropped her books, and she was about to tell him off when she looked at him.

He was tall, almost a foot taller than her, and she was wearing heels. She gave a nervous smile and he handed her book back to her.

"I'm fine," she said. "Thanks." She leaned down to pick up her pen which had rolled between his feet, and looked up at him.

"Guess I should watch where I'm going."

"Oh, no, that was my fault. I was running and I looked at my watch... I'm Simon, by the way."
She stood up and was suddenly very close to him, making him feel strange. She was very pretty, looking at him with her bright green eyes.
"Tell me, what's your name?"

"Krista," she said, smiling a little wider. She took a step back, not wanting to stand too close.

"You have somewhere you have to be, huh?" she said. But why else would he be looking at his watch?

"It's a nice name. Actually, I was on my way to meet some friends, change my mind. But, they are usually late so, I guess I have time. Do you have plans now? maybe we could go, get a drink?"

She looked at her books and thought about the paper she had to hand in. She should say no.
"Yeah, ok," she said, surprising herself. The paper could wait til tomorrow, after all.

"Great!"
He was surprised she agreed. Most of the time, when he had the courage to ask a girl out, they would turn him down, maybe because he was so straightforward.
"Do you know O'Brien's? the irish bar? They have many different drinks, including coffe and all sorts of tea"

"Of course I know Obrien's," she laughed. It was a popular place, right near campus. She wondered if she was being too easy, but it was just a drink, after all. He'd probably turn out to be a creep, but there was no harm in letting him buy her a drink.

They walked slowly to the bar.
"So, what do you study?"
It was a classic question, but he had to keep the conversation alive to avoid akward silence. The wind was slowly brushing through her long brown hair. He had always liked women with beautiful long untied hair, and Krista's was an example of which he liked the most.
After a minute, they arrived at the bar.

Krista looked down at the Art History textbook in her arms and then showed him the cover. She stepped into Obriens as he opened the door for her.

"I'm a graphic design major," she said, speaking loudly so he could hear her over the noise of music and conversation in the bar. "Art History hits a bunch of requirements, though, so.... What about you?"

"I'm writing a thesis. I got my engineer diploma 2 years ago, but I couldn't find work, so I took a job here as assistant professor while I write it.
So, what can I get you?"

For a second, she thought about ordering some cocktail with a dirty name, but they had just met. And those cocktails were always too sugary to stomach.

"Could I get a gin and tonic?" she said, and then pointed towards the restrooms. "and ... I'll be right back." She smiled and began threading her way through the crowded bar. She wanted to check her make-up before she settled in to get to know this engineer.

He went to the bar and ordered a gin and tonic, and a scotch on the rocks for him. It was still early to be drinking he though, but it was for a good cause.
Sitting down at the small table, Simon waited for her to return.

She came back out a few minutes later, lipstick and mascara freshly applied, and smiled as she slid into the seat beside his.

"That for me?" she said, touching the g & t.

"that's right. And don't worry, it's on me
Tell me, why did you choose a graphic design major?"

She picked up her drink and sipped.

"I always liked drawing," she said. "I thought I could turn it into something practical."

"Have you already designed something?"
He also raised his glass. "Cheers!" and took a quick sip.

She touched his glass with hers and took another sip.

"I did a logo for my friend's business," she said. "But cut me a break, it's my first semester."

"Pretty good still. I tried to design a logo once, and I failed miserably. I ended up hiring a guy to do it for me."
He saw that his glass was already empty, and decided to go get another one. He could also use this opportunity to tell his friends he would come later, they would understand.
"I'm getting another drink, you want something else?"

She looked at the half drunk cocktail in her hand and then finished it.

"One more of those," she said, smiling at him.

He went over to the bar, ordering the same again, as well as two glasses of water. While the waiter prepared the drinks, he texted his friend, and got a very classy response: "Go get some dude" He smiled and shook his head, then went back to the table with the drinks.
"Here's your Gin and tonic, as well as a glass of water, it helps your body to deal with the alcohol, so you don't get thirsty so fast."

She smiled as he brought another cocktail and a large glass of water. She sipped the drink and wondered who he had been texting by the bar, but she pushed the thought out of her mind. The last thing she needed was to come off like she was jealous of some guy she had just met.

"That's thoughtful of you," she said, nodding to the glass of water. "I don't think anyone's ever brought me a glass of water before. Are you trying to get me sober?"

"I would never do that!" he joked
"Since you are quite new here, how do you like the campus?"

"Oh, I don't know," she said. "I'm still learning my way around, really. Though you'll notice I knew right where this place was." She laughed.

"I see you have your priorities sorted out right!" he laughed
"But if you want i can show you a bit around, I've been here for 7 years now, I know every little corner!"
