Tom
Her hand felt so good in mine, another dimension of the love we shared, another way to connect that made me want this journey to continue forever.
The grassy beach turned to a shady wooded area where a path led between tall pine trees. I wondered how many happy lovers had wandered down this path since the first ones had been here many years ago. None were as happy as Carrie and I, though. I was sure of that.
The forest came alive in front of us. Birds flitted from branch to branch as if they were welcoming us. Delicate wildflowers grew along the edge of the path. A chipmunk scurried out of its hiding place to watch us pass. Off in the distance a white tailed deer and her fawn looked up at us from where they were feeding on the underbrush. A gentle breeze sang in the treetops above us. A tiny brook joined us near the path as we walked on babbling over its stony bottom. It felt as if this island had been made for us and that all it’s inhabitants had been waiting for this day. The brook cascading merrily, led us down into a little valley, causing us to quicken our step to see what was around the next bend.
We gasped in surprise when we saw the pool and I felt Carries hand tighten against mine. A shallow pool crystal clear and sparkling in the sunshine. Small fish swam about among the colored stones As we came closer we smiled as strewn across the bottom dozens of coins glittered. We stopped and looked at each other, our happiness and love shining in our eyes. I dug into my pocket and found two shinny quarters. Giving one to Carrie, I closed my eyes and made a wish. and tossed my coin into the water
