Jaidyn Grant
AKA Jade

She had been driving for hours another day another state line between them. She had not had that much money when she started out but now it was getting close to gas for the car or food for her. She pulled off the road into the gravel and desert parking lot of a little hole in the wall of a diner and bar called Jake’s. She saw a few motorcycles cars and an RV that looked like it may have seen better days but was a well loved “Home” for someone. She parked the cuda and pulled her hair back into a loose ponytail trying to rein the slight natural curls in a little. Walking in she glanced around quickly scoping out the safest place to be to try to get a little bit to eat.

Once she sat down it was like lions closing on prey. Three of the bikers began closing in around her till the old woman behind the bar quickly cocked a fairly brutal looking tactical shotgun.

What have I told you about hunting in my diner boys… I will mail you back to Duke in a potato sack now back off or piss me off one more time Van… Joe you supposed to have a hold on these two but you seem to be encouraging them… now BACK OFF!

All three of them quickly went back to the pool table and saw nothing but the pool table after that. Clearly this woman was not someone they were willing to mess with even if they did out weigh her by at least a half a ton of fat leather and grease. Jaidyn nodded a silent thank you to her and quietly ordered a burger and fries. The old woman knew the look well of someone on the run and told her the meal was on the house and to stay as long as she wanted to. She also told her about the small town just a mile or two down the road and that she was welcome to stay a few days if she wanted perfectly safe and she could always use some help around the diner.

Jaidyn simply nodded to her saying something about thinking about it and then glancing quickly back towards the door hearing the spring snap the old wooden screen door closed sharply.

Name: Alec Stanton
Age: 25

IC:

He'd been traveling the country for a while now, time had become irrelevant. He made his living with each short-lived concert, if you could even call stopping at gas stations, diners, and subway stations to play a few chords on his guitar, hoping that the heartless people of that city would drop a few coins in hsi guitar case.

So far, Tennessee had been the friendliest state, giving him plenty of money to catch his next bus out of the town and to eat for a few days, he presumed it was because they were so big on music, so they had a little appreciation for what he was doing. He didn't care what others thought of him, he rarely talked to anybody anyways, he had no friends, he had no family, status meant nothing to him anymore.

He wasn't sure where he was at the moment, it was the furthest his money could get him, so this was his stop. He had got off at the bus station at least an hour ago and he had made little change since, maybe enough to get something to eat, he wasn't sure. He grew accustomed to going days without food, it all depended on fate and destiny. He could be a millionaire tomorrow morning, playing live concerts all across the country, people paying him millions of dollars just to strum his guitar while some guy sang lyrics to the music he played, or he could be making his way to the next town, relying on what fate gave him each day, he never knew.

Kicking the gravel with the toe of his worn down Converse, Alec walked toward the RV he saw sitting in the parking lot and then decided he wouldn't go there. He had often thought of stealing from people around him, he thought it would be easy, but he never acted on that thought. If there was one thing, he wasn't a thief. He was raised better than that and he stuck to his own beliefs when it came to things like that.

Looking up at the diner, he decided he'd try his luck at getting a bite to eat. What's the worst that could happen? Pushing the door to the diner open, he remained collected as the door swung back into place, the spring snapping the wooden door back to it's frame. Walking ahead a little, he saw a young woman sitting alone in a booth, a smile appearing on his face.

Alec wasn't one to sleep around, but if he could make a friend, why not? Deciding to try his luck, he approached her table and that's when his eyes took in her appearance. The girl looked as if she hadn't slept for days, her hair was pulled up out of her face, her body tight, stressed, what had made this young woman look so defeated?

"Hello miss, mind if I join you?" He asked softly, pointing at the seat across from her with a kind smile.

Her voice faint as she watched him.

Okay She gestured to the other side of the table seeming a little wary or just exhausted. She continued eating staring more at the food than anyone or thing but the door every time it opened.

The old woman walked over and took his order eyeing him cautiously till she saw the guitar and about that same tired run away look.

Meals on the house on one condition... liven this place up a little with that guitar...

as soon as she spoke she was gone to go fix his order and get a refill for the young woman.

When the young woman gave him the okay to sit down, he cautiously took his seat across from her in the booth. He left his guitar propped against the booth beside him and watched as the waitress approached the table. He began to dig in his pocket for the change he had just gotten when she told him the meal was on the house.

He assumed she wanted him to play after he ate, so he remained seated. He fiddled his thumbs as he looked around the old diner for a few moments before he found his eyes being brought back to the woman sitting across the table from him. He was curious about her, he wanted to know about her, he wanted to know why she was running away from her life, just like he was.

"So what's your name, and what's your story?"

She looked over at him biting her lip a little. Trying to relax a little knowing about the rifle and the apparent owners willingness to use it. She watched him for a moment his eyes caught her the most helping in a way get her to relax.

Jaidyn... Jade is what most call me.

Reclaiming a lost life what about you?

She sat back taking a sip of the iced tea the woman brought her. I think she wants you to play after you eat... livening this place up as she put it... what kind of music do you play?

she absently began fidgeting with the end of her ponytail some of her stress seeming to fall away. Taking a deep breath she let her eyes close briefly no longer scared of the bikers present.

"Jaidyn? Such a pretty name. Jade suits you well. I'm Alec, Alec Stanton. Reclaiming a lost life, huh? I guess I could say the same for myself. I am curious though, what happened to your former life, why was it wasted? Mind me, if I'm being too nosy, just tell me, I don't mean to be rude."

Looking up, he thanked the older woman as she brought him a good portioned meal with a smile on her face. Taking a drink of the sweet tea, Alec sat his glass down and watched the girl as she talked, her fingers playing with her hair as she seemed to come to life.

"I suppose you're right, but I doubt this place can really liven up much. I can play nothing to anything mostly. I prefer to play soft acoustic sounds from either country songs or an alternative rock. What are some of your favorite bands and songs? I probably know how to play a few songs you know."

Lets just say the fairytale found vodka and blondes to say the least.

She was not sure about saying any more about her past yet he had a few buddies and who knew when one of them would catch up with her. Listening to him talk about music she relaxed more... it had always been her safe haven her escape till she finally just took the car and ran. She listed a few groups some US and a couple of European singers Mainly country when it came to US singers and groups and talking about music seemed to light her up a little more.

Running a hand through his hair, he scoffed lightly at her words. Figured. She's running from stupid bastard that didn't realize all this girl was worth, he hoped that man rotted in hell for what he was causing her to go through. He just wandered why she had to run from him, was he abusing her? Did he threaten her? He felt protective of this girl, and he hardly knew her.

Sitting back, he began to eat his meal as he listened to the girl talk, really paying attention to the way her face lit up with wonder as she listed different bands and different singers from their own American country. She seemed so happy and alive when she talked about the different musics. He smiled at her as he finished his meal before he grabbed his guitar and sat the instrument in his lap.

"So if you like country so much, then I assume you'd know the song Need You Now by Lady Antebellum?"

Strumming a few chords on the guitar, he began to play the intro.

"Picture perfect memories scattered all around the floor
Reachin' for the phone 'cause I can't fight it anymore
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind
For me it happens all the time

It's a quarter after one, I'm all alone and I need you now
Said I wouldn't call but I lost all control and I need you now
And I don't know how I can do without
I just need you now"

Alec sang lightly, his eyes gazing into hers, encouraging her to sing along with him, a smile on his face as he watched her.

She smiled and began singing without a thought. Her sheet sparkled as she sang with him her gaze moving to nothing in particular as she sang along. Almost as if lost in her own mind and world as she sang. It didn't help that she had almost been feeling weak enough to turn around and go home. Here she was now singing with some stranger while bikers gathered around.

Alec couldn't help the cheeky grin from coming to his face as the girl began to sing along with him, her face lighting up with amazement and happiness as she sang along perfectly to the song, her voice making everything sound perfect. He dropped out after a while, letting her sing the verse by herself as the biker's cheered her on, surrounding the musical couple.

Joining back in during the chorus, he played the guitar swiftly, his eyes trailing over her facial features as they sang together, the music flowing perfectly, her voice accentuating each note and each word, the music beautiful and warming. When the song ended, he looked up at her and smiled brightly.

"You have a beautiful voice, Jade."

Smiling at her, he looked down and positioned his fingers as he began to play a famous song by the artist Carrie Underwood.

She continued to sing as he started the next song smiling softly at his words and kept singing. She continued toying with her hair as she sang. Her voice softly billowing as her eyes fell closed and she leaned back in the seat.

Alec continued singing right along with her until they were the only two people left in the diner, besides the older waitress who came around to the table clapping her hands with a huge grin on her face.

"You two are so good together! You should start a band together, you guys could make it big!" She exclaimed happily as she collected the dirty plates and glasses.

Coming back to the table a few minutes later, she sat down a jug of juice and two carry-out containers.

"I made you guys some food to go and a gallon of juice for when you're thirsty. I already told her about the house, but there's a vacant house on down the road here, nobody ever comes around, you two could use it if you wanted to, as long as you help me out her in the diner while you guys are here in town. If you want, you can just come in and sing and play each night, free meals and a place to stay, how does that sound?"

Looking at Jade, Alec smiled and shrugged his shoulders. "I'm down for it, that's amazing deal. I'd be more than happy to service you with my playing, if the lady here will accompany me with her talented voice, that is."

Turning to Jade, he wondered what she'd answer, if she would actually stay in the house with him, let herself open up to him, let him learn her story.

She thought about it for a bit.. it would be better than running... but what if he did come after her or the car? It would be safer with someone around. She nodded warily but smiled a little.

I guess that would work how many rooms in the house?

The older woman smiled.. house down the road got three bedrooms RV out there been converted into two.

Alec watched her face as she seemed to contemplate all her options before answering the woman with her response, agreeing to stay with him in the house. A smile appeared on his face as he slowly stood from the table and put his guitar back in it's case. The old woman gave him the key to the house down the road and he looked at Jade, wondering how he got so lucky to find this opportunity.

"So are you ready to walk down here with me?"

He only mentioned walking, because he assumed she was like him, getting around by bus or train, he had no idea that she had a car.

No need to walk the cuss out there is... well I guess its mine now be doesn't like cops and probably still doesn't realize I left with the car.

She pointed out to the Cuda and smiled. She loved that car probably more than he loved her but that didn't matter any more she had the car and her freedom for now. Now at least for a while a job and a place to call home.

Alec nodded his head, wondering when he'd hear all of her story. She had told him bits and pieces, but there was still the main reasonings that were missing, he still didn't know the truth behind her past. Walking outside with the girl, he looked and smiled at the car that she said now belonged to her. At least he wouldn't have to walk anymore. His body had grown used to walking, that's all he did anymore.

Walking to the car, he opened the passenger side door and slid into it's seat. "So this old thing is yours? You're doing a hell of a lot better than me." He laughed softly.

She just smiled. Yep this is mine now. Saying it again she seemed to become even happier... the cuda is mine now.

She hopped into the drivers seat and cranked it up heading in the direction the old woman said the house was. So far this guy had not pried like others maybe this would not be so bad a set up she thought as she found the rustic looking old house.

Guess this is it... not too bad.

Alec smiled as he turned his head and looked at her. She seemed a little bit more perky. He honestly couldn't wait to get to this house, to take a shower, to sleep in an actual bed. Things like this came at a rare value to him, he couldn't wait.

As they pulled up to the house, he laughed softly from her words and then got out of the car. He looked at the antique house and shrugged minimally. It wasn't that bad, it wasn't that good, but anything was good to him at the moment, he was just glad to have a place to call home, at the moment.

Walking inside, he took his small backpack into the back bedroom and sat it down on the bed, alongside his guitar case. He looked around the old house and then he walked back to the bathroom, where he saw a shower. Thank God.

"Hey, I'm going to grab a shower. Make yourself at home, I guess." He laughed softly. "I won't be that long, then we can do whatever."

Going into the bathroom, he started the shower and then stepped under the hot rays, letting the warm water relax his body, take the tension from his body, make him forget all the hardships he's experienced in his life. Something as small as a shower let him forget all the pain and suffering and just let him relax.

She wandered the house finding a bedroom and putting her stuff away. She nodded to him. That's fine I will see what all we have to work with here.

That said she wandered into the kitchen seeing a ltiitle table and couple of chairs the decor made her thing an old couple once called this home.

After taking his time in the shower, he began to wonder what he would do with this girl. They obviously had to live together..but how would that work, when they hardly knew each other? He simply knew her name was Jade, she was on the run like he, and that she had a magical voice when she sang.

Stepping out of the shower, he ran a hand through his wet hair and pulled his boxers on his waist. Stepping into the kitchen, he smiled at her and walked toward her. She looked as if she were studying the furniture in the house, probably trying to piece out a story to what happened here. Stepping up to the front door, he locked the padlock and the doorknob lock before he turned to look at her.

"We don't want any unexpected guests joining us tonight, do we? So is there only one bed?"

Two bedrooms looks like living room and kitchen one bathroom. Looks like an old couple lived here. It just feels so happy.

She finally noticed he was only in boxers and smiling at her. She smiled a little as well. He was kinda cute and not as hostile appearing as her ex. She shrugged a little walking towards the bedroom to get her stuff and shower.

Think I will go get cleaned up.

Hearing that there was indeed two bedrooms instead of one, he took the news comfortably. He didn't want to push the girl into anything she wasn't comfortable with, so he was glad there were two separate bedrooms. He laughed softly from her words about an old couple having recently living here, it seemed like so.

When he noticed the cute smile appear on his face, he couldn't help but return the smile. She was cute in her own way, a little shy, but cute. He followed her back toward the bedroom and after she had grabbed her things to go to the shower, he realized that they had both chosen the same room.

Laying down on the Queen sized bed, he stretched his body out and let out a content sigh of comfortableness. It had been a while since he had been in an actual bed, it brought back memories of his home. He thought he had had the good life back then, he really had.

Alec had had his perfect dream girl in his grasp, she had agreed to marry him, they had their own place, and things were perfect. He had a good job, teaching others about music, he had always wanted to inspire other people to lead the life of music, so it was perfect for him. It had been a month before the wedding when accident had happened. He had gotten a phone call late one night, Jessica had been in a car accident, they didn't know if she was going to make it.

He had sped to the hospital as fast as he could, but he had a feeling that he was too late, which he was. By the time he had gotten there, she was laying on the hospital bed, nurses and doctors frantic around her bruised and bleeding body, he hardly recognized her face. His life turned into a living nightmare on that day, he didn't think he could ever go on.

Alec had lost his job, his fiance, his house, his future, he lost everything. Raising a hand, he ran his fingers through his hair, gripping his hair as he let out a frustrated sigh. He left all those memories in the past, that was his life, now this is his life and he was going to make the best out of it.

Hearing a sound at the door, he pulled out of his thoughts and looked up at the doorway.

She had taken a shower and was now in a pair of sweats and a spaghetti strap t shirt. She bit her lip watching him a little nervous but finally spoke.

I guess I could move my stuff to the other room... she smiled again and went to retrieve her stuff to move it. She had forgotten about the scar on the back of her shoulder as she leaned down to pick up her bag and her hair fell away from her shoulders. Though quickly picking up her bag she turned to move into the other room.

Alec looked up to see Jade standing in the doorway, a loose-fitting pair of sweats sitting at her hips, a tight-fitted tank top clinging to her torso as he noticed the cute way her teeth latched onto her bottom lip, her eyes roaming over his body. He watched as she went to gather her things, and then his eye caught something. On the back of her right shoulder, a scar stood out among her fair skin, drawing his eye.

Standing up in a flash from the bed, he crossed the room and placed a hand on her shoulder, his finger tracing the scar. "What is this from?" He asked her softly, curious, a little mad to wonder what happened to her. "You don't have to leave, you can stay in here if you'd like, if that would make you feel more safe."

She recoiled slightly from him touching the scar.

Its... its nothing. I... She didn't know what to do. The rush of horrid memories brought back by the reminder of the scar was enough to make her even consider taking him up on the offer to stay in this room with him. She turned quick to remove the scar from his line of sight in a futile attempt to get him to forget it.

I... I guess I could stay in here... less areas to heat in the house if we leave the other room closed off.
