One state under God

I nominate Rhode Island

Precisely! The State of Rhode Island is NOT an island. If they'll lie about that, they'll lie about other things.

You must remember that Texas was an independent State before Texas ever joined the United States. Thus, Texas has some rights that other states don't have. For instance, it is theoretically possible for Texas to split itself into as many as five [count 'em 5 states.]

And when they combine, they can form VOLTRON, Defender of the Universe!

Wait... sorry, I was back in the 80s there for a second.

I also find that statement insulting that Texas could be as cool as Voltron ;)

Yes, states have rights. And powers. In fact, they should be the ones who do any regulating of the economy and marketplace that doesn't cross state lines.

On the other hand, the People have rights, too. And why I love my adopted state, I don't like what its politicians are doing right now....trampling on the rights of individuals with an establishment of religion. Grrr...Hasn't anyone heard of incoporation of the Bill of Rights to apply to the states since the 14th Amendment?

Speaking of the 14th, Rumply is right. It does clearly state that is a citizen of the state, as well as the Union.

To get back to the subject of this thread: Speaking (or writing) of the Bill of Rights, I wonder how long it will be before this pledge gets tossed as being unconstitutional. As soon as it's challenged, which will be soon, I hope.

There's this lame Cartoon Network rip-off show of Voltron with robot monkeys instead of lions. Texas can be the 'robot monkey makes giant robot' state. I can see it on the license plates now. :D

Hey, now . . . .

The only license plates Texans are interested in are those that espouse the virtues of BBQ and tailgating. Get it right before you condemn. :p

And, yes, Box, technically, Texas could secede at a moment's notice. Hell, the charter of the state still mandates a musket, a wagon, a cow, and one acre of land to anyone who settles in the state . . . not that the Texas legislature would honor any such claims.

But it is that sense of tradition and pride that makes so many Texans arrogant. This really is the only state that is a 'whole other country.' Not that I think it will ever become one soon.

God damn, it's late for me . . . .

How about one of the Dakotas?

(We've got two!)

Seconded. I've lived in both and live in So Dak right now.

And I'll have you know, sarahh, I'm not agreeing with you just because you have a great ass.

Or "VOLTRON, Defender of the Beef Industry."

Er, wait, Oprah defeated them already. :)

No, we are humble, merely TEXAS, Defender of the Universe.

State's rights.
Yah. So? Didn't say it was illegal. (Don't know and don't care.) Only implied it was moronic.

Oh, good.

I'd much rather our relationship be built on mutual love and respect.

States have the right to be moronic, too. (Obviously.) ;)

Look, all's I'm saying is that Texas better have a bunch of Lion robots stored in a secret hangar somewhere. Either that or they're not getting those nifty license plates.

I was recently reading a book by someone named Kunstler that when the oil runs out, America will end up being Balkanized (more than it is now). Maybe Texas is a precursor of things to come.

Anyway, I like Texas. I came up there, and anyway, it's the venue of most of my stories.
