OOC: Firefly Character Claim

I can edit my last post if we don't want to lose Jan's ship yet. As for the love interest, sounds good to me.

Sorry dragon but with the post here about your ship and the your char looking back and hoping it hadn't been noticed by the Alliance, everything was there for a River Tam experience.

Saffron could be a lot of fun

I certainly do remember Saffron (although I would certainly want to go back and review those episodes :) ).
I'm obviously totally new to the boards here, and most of my rp experience is from direct one-on-one chat. However, I've looked over the guidelines, and I think I could be a good contributor to these threads, if you would have me :)
I do have a couple of stories posted here on Literotica (and another one awaiting approval).

Do you already have an idea of how you want to incorporate Saffron into the story? Off the top of my head, I'm thinking that maybe she's a bounty hunter now, employed by the Tongs after Mira? She wouldn't be able to act overtly in this group, but in time...

Of course, the harder part would be to figure out why she would be allowed on the ship. What if... Saffron got an Alliance court to recognize her marriage to Mal, and based upon a history of abandonment on his part (through a creative re-telling of their actual past together), the courts were about to impound Serenity unless he fulfilled his responsibilities by taking her, and perhaps would require her to check in with the courts from time to time to ensure continuing good behavior.

From there... perhaps Mal would want to just shut her away again, but the moderating influence of... Book? Jan? would force the crew to treat her with minimal respect.

LOL... anyway, that's one idea.

Jamie

I don't think Saffron would be eager to go before an Alliance court and Mal certainly doesn't care what they have to say.

Hi Jamie, welcome to Lit. :rose:

I was thinking that someone like Saffron would thrive in a place where women were in charge. She could be conning people on Yukon and have worn out her welcome - as she tends to do quite rapidly. I thought maybe she could stow away on Serenity while the crew were planetside escorting Mira to her destination. She knows that Mal wouldn't shoot her unless he had no choice and she would probably recognise Serenity as Mal's ship.

There are a few plot twists to squeeze in before we arrive at Yukon so there's plenty of time for us all to discuss things. Book has been left with little to do so far so I was thinking that Saffron could try cosying up with him because he's a shepherd and therefore unlikely to kill her. Book being the suspected ex-operative he is though, will see right through her and play her right back.

What do other people think of these ideas?

Feral...

Try not to snack on the newbies.

Maybe

I don't think Saffron would be eager to go before an Alliance court and Mal certainly doesn't care what they have to say.

I think you're giving Saffron way too little credit. She is a master of manipulation, and I think could easily bend some judge to her will by making her seem like the unwitting pawn, or by a dozen or so other methods.

As for Mal, he may not have any respect for the Alliance, but he's certainly shown that he will go out of his way to avoid complications with them. If she showed up on the docks with a magistrate and a squad of Alliance troops ready to impound Serenity, I don't think he'd have much choice.

Not that I'm wedded to this idea.

I don't have any problem interacting with Book. He was a favorite of mine. And we *both* brought up the idea that he's the only thing that keeps Saffron 'safe'. lol

I could probably work with the Yukon angle, although I have to admit that I like the humor of the courts angle... maybe there could even be a fake pregnancy involved :). Plus, she's already done the stowaway thing.

I'm guessing though that you don't like the idea of her storyline being directly entwined with Mira's?

Regardless, especially as a newbie, I won't try to force things. Let me think about a few things she could have been up to on Yukon, that'll get me hooked.

Oh, and don't worry, Kimberlee... I've got them on DVD :)

Thank you very much for the hospitality.

hmm...let's see...I should probably wait for a couple more characters to post

It's an interesting idea but at the same time, why would Saffron want to go to the trouble of causing trouble for Mal? There would have to be a fairly specific end goal as Mal already knows she's a scheming minx and it never takes her long to find a new patsy.

I'm guessing though that you don't like the idea of her storyline being directly entwined with Mira's?

To be honest I simply hadn't considered it. If you come up with anything that links the two characters it could be interesting. Mira is not really supposed to be a permanent character but as we're a bit guy heavy it wouldn't hurt to keep her around a bit longer.

Well, to answer both questions I would have to go back to my original post, where she might be working as a bounty hunter for the Tongs that are after Mira, and she's using the courts ploy to force her way onto the ship. At least, that's one idea.
Of course, she'd also have to have a reason that she'd tell Mal and the crew why she wants to be on board. Not sure about that one yet. Although I'm not sure that it matters *too* much. They're not going to believe her anyway.

The way we've set Mira's character up is that although the Tongs are pursuing her, it's more an honour thing, for the sake of form. She killed a guy but it was in self defence. They want her off Persephone and are making a racket and ensuring she's left so that their reputation for ruthlessness is preserved. The idea is though, that once she's a good distance from Persephone she's relatively safe.

I don't want to sound like I'm being unduly negative and I'm sorry if I do. I'm also well aware that right this minute I'm singularly uninspired have nothing better to offer so I do feel like a bit of a killjoy and I'm sorry. I'm really just thinking aloud (well... in print). I'm sure we'll work out something very soon. :rose:

I think velvet has pretty well summed things up. Besides, it may be a bit before we work people in. Right now we are floating through space. The couples that are established should have some time to play. We also need to do River's birthday. Those are the major plot points till we touch down on Yukon.

If I can make a suggestion about Saffron, when it comes time to introduce her, make it so Mal needs someone with her skills to run a Con on someone. Then she can be a "Valued" member of the crew, without everyone feeling that she's out to screw them over.

Okay. Well, have fun with the RP.

Please do stay, you're very welcome to play Saffron. I'm sorry we've been so negative. We thrash ideas out in this thread and the info I posted about Mira was just to put things into context. I have every confidence that we can sort out a plotline for Saffron that people are happy with. If I wasn't half pissed (it's nearly 10pm UK time and I've been out with friends) I would have more to contribute on the ideas front myself.

This SRP kind of fell to me to manage because ssunstorm, the OOC thread starter, dropped out of the SRP in the early stages. I haven't tried co-ordinating a multiplayer before and it's hard to keep everybody happy and create a flow that allows for good narrative from the players. I freely admit that I am on a steep learning curve that has proven rather bumpy.

Please accept my apology for any offence caused, I would be very pleased to have you on the crew and that's one of the reasons why I'm posting this publicly rather than sending a PM.

"I'm happy Velvet."

*Jumping up and down and smiling.*

"Vvvverrry happpy! Thanks to River." *grins and hugs kimberlee*

*Then hugs you just because you are doing a fantastic job!* :D

good news....a certain ornery captain will be doing a voiceover in the new game Halo 3: Recon

We all understand the stress that running the thread puts on you velvet. You have done an excellent job of stepping in to be the guiding voice. The thread is everyone's responsability, but something this large always needs someone to act as a rallying point. The hardest part of being in charge is occassionally you have to tell people no. It is not that you are being controlling or are killing their ideas, you just have make sure that everything fits so that everyone enjoys it.

I am by no means opposed to having Saffron on the thread, it is just a matter of finding the right way to introduce her. She is an antagonist to the crew and they would probably just as soon shoot her as let her back on board. The other complication is the matter of making it work with the story that we currently have. Serenity will not be landing on a Yukon for a while. Once there, options do open up. If jamielikestowrite wishes to join, then I would suggest that she looks back in the thread for what we've posted on Yukon and try to come up with an idea that would fit with that setting.

Right. Next newbie that peeps into the thread, I'm putting a muzzle on you.

Bad Feral! :p

Tseranc/One Eyed Jack aka Wash/Jayne is away this weekend but he has said that he doesn't mind having his chars puppeted and moved around as we need to.

I'm therefore going to focus on Mal and Inara rather than Jayne and Mira. I may have Mira flirt with Book for a bit, just for fun. :D
