OOC: High Fantasy Roleplay/Strategy...In the Valley

Meowww be welcome lady Elayne.
Felid nation by voice of Mnelmaow the daughter of the godess offer you peace and friendship.
Our nation would consider as hostility if one of our race is restrained as slave.

Elayne....Brillant. Sounds even better then when you first posed the idea to me earlier today. I love it.....And "human types" are welcome since Maid of Marvels said she needed to drop out. These demon worshipper types are an interesting addition to the field. So as things stands we have...

Minataurs
Cat People
Wood Elves
Dragon People
Demon People

Interesting stuff......I like it well back to the Village. I am liking what I am reading in the Valley though.

Thank you. :)

I'm looking forward to this thread. I get to play a bad girl! Rawr! :catroar:

I will be tied up tomorrow with my shift, but would like to give you all some food for thought before I sit down and do some more work on the Valley and the Village.... threads. So I will give you all something to think about and present your four gifts and decide how you will use them.

"A holy relic, new building for their settlement, a unit unique to the player's settlment, and helpful advisor character."

The Minotaurs.....

Your mother Goddess gives to you Banner of Unity...carry it into battle it is a rally point, hang it in your holy place it will enrich the experience and make rituals even more impressive and successful. The theme of unity is very important to your people.

A heavy stone tower four stories tall with a strong wood gate. It has a commanding view of the river from its hill site. It allows you to easily see over the top of the tree tops between your village and the plains. Built by Dwarves one summer some years ago in exchange for a large amount of crops for themselves they did an excellant job. They even managed to construct a tower that minotaurs could move around in without difficulty (extra large doors for example).

With minotaurs of such large size standard equipment for the rest of the races simply will not work. A crew for a massive longboat is hard find. No less then 40 half-orges crew this large vessel. They are skilled oarsmen all armed with a long knife (shortsword to a human) who know the whole river. Their days are often filled with fishing and moving timber down the river. The longboat can hold some 20 additional passangers (normally workers crossing the river or trade goods).

Aeson Shieldbearer to the chief.....clever tactician and well travelled. He is a minotaur that many would think a scholar and though he carries the shield he is more then able warrior. His counsel is sought many from every thing to chidlren's names to matters of state.

Felids

Mother's milk.....a magical well is a holy site near your temple that is special place. It proves a seemingly unend supply of warm milk. Though nonfelid have drank it few think of it as more then very good milk. To Felid though it strengthens the soul and improves a cat's mental, physical, and spiritual well being. Often it can replace a meal in a pinch. Given to your four legged cousins it will make them happy and cure minor sickness.

A Dwarven forge is a common place for finely crafted weapons, armor, and tools. A group of 12 wondering Dwarves who enjoyed the company of cats settled near your town. Not liking your residences though they have setup shop in a small cave complex nearby and work and live there.....though most cats find it to be a hot, and loud place. Still though the dwarves make fine tools and good weapons though a steady supply of metal keeps these numbers small.

Several winters ago a lost group of barbarians made their way to your village. These some 30 human slit evenly between male and female warriors are extremely strong and have the ablity to rage. For a short period of time they can call on massive amonts of strength and fight ignoring wounds and the odds. They do not retreat while enraged and simply look for one target after another to kill.....more like rip apart. The like large warhammers and longswords.

Brucie is but only a few years older then Mnelraow, but has learned very much from the forest and life. She has even killed one of the most fierce bears in the woods with only her hunting blade. She knows of many religions, military science, and even knows how to swim and control a boat.

Dragons

With draconic runes carved into them these 12 stones would be perfect for prayer site or temple. They enhance prayer and unity of your people and are important link to the past said to be made by a dragon with his own hands. At the very least they are important to scholars who have yet to translate them completely yet. The head of your group keeps them close at hand, but wants them to be accessable to all.

An imperial scroll house.....Known to many as a library it is a place where local knowledge was compiled and copied before it was sent back to capital. This storehouse was uncovered in the rocky side of the valley hills and many think it was hidden on purpose. Perhaps there is more to find...but there is plenty to read even if little has been added since the fall of the old empire.

A unit of female Warrior wood Nymphs came to your village one cold fall looking for lodging. Looking like female Elves or Human women though ususally shorter with very long hair. There are some 50 of these women and carry a variety weapons ranging from primative spears and hide armor to adamantium full plate armor and vorpal longswords depending on their experience. The women are very friendly and festive and often sunbath nude when not training.

Few have age and experience to tell one of dragon blood anything but if there was someone it would be.......Aurelion who is a skilled Elven lancer. Blond hair blue eyes and clad in gold armor on a white horse he makes an impression. He chats on all most every subject and is a voice many acknowledge as one who should be listened to in any important matter. Though a serious man he mixes well with those drinking at a tavern or playing with local peasant children.

Wood Elves

Inspired by nature in all its many glorious forms a large prayer shrine. It is a beautiful building carved from fine stone and has four glass walls. The light is enhanced making for better prayer and better rituals. Elves from all over the Valley come to pray and perform rituals it is truly a beautiful spot and some feel its full power is not yet fully realized.

On four sides of the settlement are pillars of protection. The four pillars simply look like smooth stone cylindars, but when anything approaches them they will glow a bright blue that can be seen from the village. Who built them has been lost but they make a perfect square though a good distance from the settlment itself.

Hellborn Wood Nymphs are said to be created when a demonic creature rapes a fairy or nymph. Unlike their happier playful cousins Hellborn nymphs are females who look at the world as a place to fight then you die. They all have long raven hair and blue eyes and many display tattoos and piercings. Liking your people though and their teachings they have settled in your settled. They are 30 strong and all live together in a long house. They like to drink, brawl, and hunt in the forest. They obey your laws and customs though and are always ready to fight. They love short spears and maces and often butcher an enemy rather then simply kill them.....Still though with rough upbring they are overly protective of children.

Lacemoss....Is the daughter of an Elven archer and a human gypsy. She travelled all her life and saw and studied much. She can debate about he best type of blade for combat or the right herbs for dinner. One day she can be midwife another a barrel maker.

Valencians

The Red Stone Demon Blade....said to have been left by a demon after he made love to a female knight. The story says she felt that if she was to have his child she deserved more then one nights pleasure. So she hid the blade in her bed covers. It looks like a longsword with a red gemstone in the hilt and is perfectly balanced. It is razor sharp and remains that way regardless of treatment, and though many have tried even in the forge no one has broken it and keeps its gleam. Considered an important symbol of your peole and a link to the past it is greatly prized....and many pray in its presents.

Marking both sides of the bay at your small port town are a pair of light house. Tall and impressive they each over a glass room on top of the tower. Inside is a pile of wood that seems perfectly ordinary until darkness when the pile ignites casting a bright light. It only goes out when dawn comes.

Some 12 wolf handler humans come to your settlment summers back. They have a magical relationship with the wild beasts and some say they can even speak with these hunters. Each handler has 4 to 6 wolves though the numbers vary. They believe themselves to be true friends to the wolves so if one wants to leave and explore life outside the settlement they let them go off to find their way. They do rally around their masters and battle and always follow commands. Many times wolf masters are hired to watch livestock for others in the settlement.

Arabella is of the Valkyrie race who appears as blond haired Norse woman who is very muscular and has large white feather wings. She never seems to remove her plate armor though some claim she does go skinny dippy in the river during early mornings. Though a great warrior she is a skilled negotiator and knows the name of everyone in the settlement. Though she is not immortal she has hinted she is very old.

Okay guys let me know what you think......I tried to be fair here and play on strengths and weaknesses. Hope you all like.....and these give you ideas of what your dealing with as far as reasources.

The horns of awaking sound our presence

Race: Minotaurs 100%
Troops: 100 archers, 80 spearmen, 60 heavy-axe men, 60 heavy-hammer men.
Each troop is armed with Bowie size knives, bolas, and metal tipped horns.

Workers:
50 farmers, 40 shamans, 50 miners, 10 blacksmiths, 20 ranchers (cattle, sheep, & goats), 20 carpenters, 11 woodworkers, 15 leather workers, 10 metalsmiths, 20 stonemasons, 15 lumberjacks, 30 hunters, 20 herbalist, 5 historians/storytellers/scribes, 40 engineers, 10 clay workers, 4 jewelry smiths, 330 non-skilled workers, women, children.

Religion: Spiritual worship of She`Iea the birth mother, Anu’ Huloa the provider of light and warmth, Weama Mother Nature, Romear the wild human & bringer of knowledge, and Youa the sacred calf. Other worships are to ancestors and totems depicting great family heroes.

Families are set up with there being about even number of male to females however 1 male Minotaur can have as many females as well take him. Minotaurs live in a patriarchal culture to since the continuation of their kind.
Even with their kinship with humans most families do not allow mixed marriages but not that most humans females could with stand the struggles of conception or pregnancy. Nor could a human male survive in another bull changed him for a future wife. If 2 bulls are seeking the same mate than a battle of horns is issued and is carried out in front of the families. The winner may ask than ask the female to join his family.

The ruling body over the herd is chosen by the shamans, who are the oldest and the wisest of the herd. This chief holds the position until he is too old to lead or until he has proven to be an unfit leader. The current Chief comes from a long line of herd leaders, warriors, and shamans. His name is Utramel and has been chief of the Golden Plains for some 12 years. At 38 he is still in his prime to lead and has a growing family of 4 wives and 16 children.

Currently most Minotaurs live in Uradon city, built into the side of a mountain and has numerous channels that lead to 5 near by hills. Currently there are 5 smaller settlements surrounding those entrances. Once inside the channels it’s a virtual labyrinth designed to keep any attack force lost and at the mercy of the traps that lay in the labyrinths.

Current projects: With all the extra rock & clay being dug up from the mountain and from caverns being build under ground. Rock & hardened clay throwing devices are currently being developed. This after the first two winged Minotaur troops were lost in action and the project was since discontinued.
Also herbalist have been working on a herb that will allow workers to work longer and be less tired. A plant bulb was found to help make workers and troops less tired but showed increased breathing and some violent side effects. Also a plant was found that if inhalted allowed muscles to relax and speed up recovery time.

Interesting interesting.......So if there is nothing else I plan to get to work on the first turn setup later today.

Turns will be roughly 2 months in game time though this is not a hard and fast rule as some of you know already. Each month has 30 days.....all months. You can have holy days and celebrations just mention them in the turn.

Orders Include:

Roleplay (interaction between characters)

Background (story portion of the turn mixed with roleplay)

Build (large scale projects like housing, ships, castles etc....)

Harvest (plant food, grow food, hunt food..)

Spy (spy on enemies or friends)

War (who you make war on or how you prepare for war)

Research & Development (coming up with new ideas and making them happen..Science and Engineering)

These orders all help but a post in order. This makes sure your actions won't be missed. Still leaves plenty of room to tell a great story and allow interaction with other players.

So get ready for life in the Valley people......Where the people are friendly, the food is good and the entertainment can kill you.....

Happy Thanksgiving look for updates Friday......take care everyone.

I thought of a question:

Just how much do our leaders and people know about the valley and the other settlements out there?

could we know where in the valley we are each others? Who being near the danger?
You done great until now jagged
Big hug and nose kisss

Ok Jagged, I might have run into a bit of a delay.

I am going to be moving to my new home starting in the morning, so I will be loosing the internet until we can get ti set up again. I will check in as I can, but I might be off line for a couple of weeks.

Until then.....

Ok, I have an idea for a village and it's new leader. This is a little different from what other people were using, but I thought it would be interesting, so here goes:

Backstory:

Ricardo was born a human slave in a large empire from over the mountains. From the time he was very young, he was trained as a gladiator for the arena. His first fight was when he was 14. He won fight after fight, surviving in the Arena for more then 8 years, by which point he was considered one of the greatest arena champions of his time. When he was 22, his freedom was bought by a mercenary general who wanted him to be part of his personal army. He stayed with this army for 5 years, becoming the #2 man in the army, second only to the general. The men were very loyal to Ricardo; in many ways, they were more loyal to them then they were to the captain.

Finally, the general became paranoid about Ricardo, and ordered him killed. Men loyal to Ricardo heard about this, and came to his defense. A brief but ugly fight followed, and Ricardo and his men won, killing the general and the general’s supporters.

To avoid an automatic death sentence for mutiny, Ricardo, and a part of the military force who decided to follow him, decided to try to flee across the mountains. The mountain paths were narrow, dangerous, unstable, and many were prowled by large, dangerous predators. Out of the 500 people who tried to cross the mountains together, only about 200 made it through to the valley on the other side.

Once they made it through the mountains, they came across a small village living in the foothills at the edge of the valley, a town called Friar’s Church because of the ancient church in the center of town. By this point, Ricardo and his army were close to starvation. They demanded that the chief of the village give them food and shelter, but they were refused. At this point, Ricardo felt he had no choice if he was to save his men from starvation, and him and his men attacked the village. The resistance was light; the farmers and sheperds who lived in the village were decent archers, but were not really fighters, and had no real chance against Ricardo’s highly trained men.

Ricardo put the old chief of the village and his family to death quickly, and set himself up as the new chief. There was some grumbling about this, but most of the people in general had not been very fond of their own chief either, and many, having heard the rumors of people vanishing in the woods and dark forces on the rise, suspect that they might need the protection of such strong warriors in the time to come.

Leader: Ricardo is about 6'2", with dark hair, and he and his men have a dark olive skin color that makes them stand out from the more pale people living in the village they have taken over. When he first arrived in the village, he had been living on short rations for weeks, and he is still very lean and wirey, with a thin, angular face. With any weapon, or with none, he is quick and deadly.

Village:
The village of Friar’s Church is composed mostly of humans, with a handful of people from other races scattered throughout the village; there is a small group of elves who live in the woods nearby who are theoretically part of the village, but don’t really have much to do with most of the humans in the village except in times of war. Human:90% Elf:5% Other:5%

Army: Most of the army for the village is composed of Ricardo’s former mercenaries. They are well armored, highly trained, generally rough individuals, who are armed with long swords and shields. Each mercenary soldier also has a crossbow which he usually carries strapped to his back. (200 former mercenaries: good armor, long swords/shields, crossbows)

The army of the village is supplemented by the local peasant militia that was the only defense the town had until Ricardo showed up. Like most farmers, they are good hunters with their longbows and spears, and know the woods around the village very well, but they have next to no armor, and are not really trained to be soldiers, although Ricardo and his men are working on training them. (100 local millita; archers/spearmen)

Despite the name, the village is not an especially religious one. The beautiful, ancient church in the center of the village is dedicated to Ra, the sun-god. There are a couple of older priests who live in the church, and a lot of the villagers do occasionally go into the church to pay their respects to Ra, but it’s just not something that most of the villagers really take very seriously. However, the ancient church is well known, and from time to time pilgrims from elsewhere in the valley do come to the church to worship.

Ricardo does not believe in any gods at all, and neither do most of his mercenaries, although in times of stress some of them will pray to the gods of the Empire they learned about as children.

Most of the people in the village are farmers, shepherds, and lumberjacks. There are a small number of local blacksmiths, masons, fletchers, and tradesmen in the village, and the mercenary army that Ricardo led also had a few blacksmiths, who are currently teaching the village blacksmiths how to make better kinds of iron for weapons. There are also several healers, witches, and alchemists of various types living in the village.

Welcome to ricardo
We are happy to have you with us

Could you do the repartition by nombers of your soldiers and populations, jagged will need it for the villages evolutions, he use it for his game system.

Nose kisss :p :rose:

Sure, I’ll come up with some specific numbers. Thanks for the welcome. :)

Soldiers: 200 former mercenaries: well trained, good armor, long swords/shields, crossbows. 100 local militia; archers/spearmen, very little armor, not much formal training but know the area well and are decent hunters. Members of the militia are farmers most of the time.

Locals: About 400 men, women, and children living on farms around the village (100 of the farming men are also members of the militia). About 150 shepherds in the hills by the village, both men and women. There are 15 local witches, alchemists, or healers living in or near the town. 20 local blacksmiths, and 5 army blacksmiths. There are about 40 merchants that spend several months every year in the village, and then bring the fine wool from the sheep raised in the area out to other towns in the area; this is the biggest source of income for the town. There are also about 50 full-time weavers and cloths-makers who live in the town. 30 masons, builders, and bricklayers also live in the town There are also a handful of other non-humans who live in the village and do various jobs, mostly manual labor and guarding of merchants (about 15 assorted non-humans), and like most villages there are a handful of poor people and beggars.

Are those numbers ok? I was a little unclear about the guidelines.

Repost with more details

I am reposting my information with the details requested. Let me know if I missed anything.

Greetings and well met, friends. My name is Grimearn Wudu, and I am the council leader for the village of Peaudale. I am a widower, my wife disappeared in the forest many years ago. I have one son, Jared, who has no interest in following in my footsteps, but wants only to spend all his time in the forest, practicing his hunting and tracking.

We are a race of wood elves. Our village in built in the trees, a large series of tree houses connected by rope bridges and swings.

Our council is made up of five members, as follows:
Council Elder - Grimearn Wudu
General of the Army - Llhona Elsic (a female but she has no match with bow, word, or wits)
Guild Master of the Arts - Newell Disa (he is in charge of all our craftsman)
High Druid - Evonia Newmoon (she is our spiritual leader)
Historian - Dyrell Miela (he is in charge of keeping records and the clerical aspects of our government)

Our army is comprised of both men and women. They use bows and javelins as missile weapons, with an odd blow gun thrown in. As our race is very agile, we prefer to fight in hand-to-hand combat with two weapons and no shield. Short sword and dagger is the main choice, with a few axe units as well. The church warriors typically use a sickle. Our armor is usually tanned hides, sometimes gilded with metal. Our army is skilled at using the forest to hide, make traps and generally frustrate our enemies.
Our army is broken down into 10 units of 28. Each unit contains 3 warriors who are also priests in our church. Each unit also has a corporal and a sergeant as leaders. The army also has 20 officers, which are 5 lieutenants, 5 captains, 5 majors and 5 generals.

Our skilled craftsman produce many fine goods. Our bows are highly prized for their strength and accuracy. We make many fine things from wood such as furniture and barrels. Our special Oakblood wine is known for its potency. We do have several small farm plots, but rely more on hunting and gathering to provide our food. As Evonia the High Druid loves to say, "The forest will provide." Our craftsman are divided into guilds as follows:
Blacksmith 10
Hunter 25
Gatherer 25
Farmer 25
Cooper 10
Wine Maker 10
Bow Maker 10
Fletcher 10
Trainer 10
Carpenter 25
Carvers 15
Tanner 25

Our religion is based on nature. There are chief spirits for all the elements. We believe all living animals and plants have a spirit, and protect them from outsiders. We take only what we need from the forest. Our priest perform rituals when we must cut down trees or when a hunt has been successful, to put the spirit to rest. Our priests use natural remedies and potions to cure our people. We have one chief gawd, Silvanus. We also have several lesser ones such as Morrigan, gawdess of war, and Brigit, gawdess of love.

Our race tends to live for a very long time, so our families are small. Most families have no more than two children. Our general citizens number 500, and include children, elders and general workers who work under the guidance of the guilds.

Devil's Grin.......Welcome.....just in time for me to do a setup for the story which will come soon once I do some work on the Village ....then onto the first round of the Valley . I like what you wrote for your tribe and a good idea for the origins of your leader character. I will think about your gifts that you will receive.

oralyfix8d you did fine with your setup you understood the guidelines just fine.

Well another player taking command of humans.....hhhhmmm Interesting. So people any last thoughts before I set things up and we begin? Some new players....and some veterans. This will be a good game.

I Know I'm Late

I Just Got A Chance To Go Online *so I Hoped Everyone Had A Good Thanksgiving*

Ok Let Me Get This Straight

Man This Is Quickly Meetings The Conditions Of Fantasy

Oh where is Lit??

Lost access to Lit for awhile today......in the middle of posting in fact. Damn.....so Wednesday will be my next day off to put in a full day of work on things. Then I can promise gifts for our latest player and....a first turn setting things in motion for our game. Came up with some great creatures and plots so please bare with me and you won't be disapointed. (Hell I am getting better.....days instead of weeks.)

oye oye I seek you attention

ps. For those in the village ooc who have already read this post please don't read any futher.

I have been giving the tasking of working on a futuristic/scifi/Early Roman story.
So take Roman before it had reached Britian and the Republic in starwars before
the empire took it all away and thats about my time line. But this is neither here nor there. I wish to know does anyone know of great web sites, not good but great meaning all inclusive web sites on roman buildings, mythology, lives, and politics. I've tried a couple and the information is sparce.

I direct this post mostly to mantra and jagged. But if there are any other roman history guru's please speak up.

Ceade Milte Failte to all from Ravenswood

Ok after much deliberation and pestering lol, I have decided to give this a shot. Please be kind this is my first try at something like this. I am liberally borrowing from "fix8d" set up as a model.

Ceade Milte Failte from the clans of Ravenswood. I am Honora, and the ruling Queen now. My parents King Cormacc and Queen Lassar were brutally slain in a marauding attack by a new enemy. Our town was over run and we were forced to flee. We are what you see now a smaller group of clans from the old large one. We have had to change many things and conform to this new existence. It has been harder on the older ones but Praise be to Bran we have all adapted. Of my family, myself and three younger brothers survived, Cormacc II 10, Donegal 8, and Art 7. It falls to me to rule and become a mother & a sister.

We are of course Human but of Celtic origins. Our village is primitive in nature much as our ancestors must have lived. We have returned to huts and those housings crafted from leather to be moved easily.

Our tribunal is comprised of six members and myself, as follows:
Council Elder - Sir Bruatar
Master of Arms - Sir Corthach (disgruntled about accepting women)
Master of the Art and Craft Guilds -- Sir Cathal (guide to all the craftsman)
High Druid - Diannan Merglo (high priestess and magician)
Historian - Merchadd Menton (he is in charge of keeping records and the clerical aspects of our government)

My vote would serve as the final ruling or a tie breaker should there be a 3-3 vote.

Our army is comprised of both men and women. We are comprised mainly of foot soldiers including archers. We are skilled archers, sword, and knife fighters. We are learning to use horses and longer pole type weapons with sharp metal tips. Since we began to run we have become a clan of hand to hand combat fighters learing to use the surroundings for cover. We prefer to fight with hands free and crafted a small, light shield that can be carried on the forearm. Short sword and dagger is the main choice, with a few axe units as well. Our army is skilled at using the forest to hide, make traps, and ambush the enemy. We have also learned the art of diversion.

Our army is broken down into 10 units of 30. Of the 30 each unit contains 3 warriors who are devout followers of Bran's teachings and followers of the High Priestess. Each of the units has one leader with a subordinate in his charge. Other than that the armies are not as organized in ranking as some. We have gained more loyaltyamongst the warriors when we fight as a unit. With only some leadership you want to follow orders rather than to obtain rank. The honor comes in the fighting and how well you serve not how many you have to boss under you.

We are proficient and skilled at making many things. Our bows are small and light but deadly accurate. We have learned to use arrows tipped with poison when necessary for larger targets. Our blacksmiths are the finest any where. They have had to learn to work with a variety of metals since this area is new to us. It has given us many new weapons from lighter, stronger metals. This has proved useful in training the women and the youngest of us.

We have become specialists in dining off the land. No finer food and ales will you find in the valley. Our herbalist have found many new herbs to cure ills but also to spice and preserve the meats. We use the land to grow the foods from our homeland in a community plot tended by all the families. Our meats come mainly from local game and fish.

Our craftsman are divided into guilds as follows:
Blacksmith 10
Hunter 25
Gatherer 25
Farmer 25
Cooper 10
Wine Maker 10
Bow Maker 10
Fletcher 10
Trainer 10
Carpenter 25
Carvers 15
Tanner 25

We worship Bran the Blessed he is the God of prophecy, the arts, leader, war, the Sun, music, writing. His worhip and rituals affect every aspect of our life.

We are small at the moment because of the attack but our families have been known to be large. We live to an average age of 90 still being healthy and able to assist our families. Our general citizens number 500, and include children, elders and general workers who work under the guidance of the guilds.[/QUOTE]

wow a human race. Cheers and welcome aboard. And don't worry only Jagged bits

Wanton......good job. A few details to iron out....(plot and a few questions) but otherwise ready to go....Sorry guys work ran over today so I will have to give it at least another day before I can post the first turn but I know I can do it then.....things have not been going as planned and it is pissing me off.....thanks for your patients. Two players will get their gifts shortly before we begin though.

7 players adds a new dimension to things (not counting my people bring the total to 8.....wow). Hopefully you will all be able to unite to fight a vile any who will give no quarter. We should be up and running by the end of the week. All of you are on the Western shore and are a maxium of 20 miles from each other (always a friend or enemy nearby). I will give you the details of who is closer to who but you all decide your relationships with each other.
