I had a couple of friends that had speech therapy throughout their entire public school career. I didn't really see the point of it but...well, I understood them. In their cases it was that they severely under enunciated.

Did you develop an accent at home prior to school years?

I have a hard time understanding southerners, truth be told. Not all, of course...but those with the thick accent. I have a better chance carrying on a conversation with a tech support guy out of India.

I've found foreigners aren't too difficult to understand - because they try, especially if English isn't their primary language.

...I've probably sampled a bad pool of southerners. The only ones I've spoken to I was doing collections on so...yeah, they weren't going to slow down or try to make it easy for me or anything like that. Because collectors are assholes and fuck them!

I was doing collections for a credit card company. You know, calling past due accounts and asking them nicely to give me their monies. Can't say I miss it!

...Though, truth be told, it was a lot better than local loan sharking. Payday advance companies are fucking evil.
