OOC: Team of Misfits

Dink dink? Dink dink dink dink dink. /me feels the need to watch Spaceballs again.

I don't know if I can be bothered to respond to someone who hasn't seen Spaceballs.

No. Dormant and her pancakes.

For the moment I'm going to chalk it up to a dream sequence.

Adults need to do some talkin.

I know.

However, I would like add my two bits.

Starting here There is a string of about four or five posts in which Wombat openly ignored my Ruby post (the post I linked) and then about the history of Jenkins he just threw out something that I called him out on and he then changed it.

The reason I wanted to bring this up in the OOC, is that I know I don't appreciate someone having my characters do things that I never agreed to, and I know Katt doesn't, but it's something we all need to talk about.

Add: I would like to add that I am not saying we need to take drastic action, however I do want everyone to realize that right now I'm singling out Wombat as an example because this is something he has done multiple times, and just did. We need to talk about this however. Set limits need to be put.

For example pushing another character is fine. Pushing that character, having them fall over, then have the other character give the pusher their lunch money is not okay.

I don't want to call a dude out on the floor and have a group bashing. It's not the end of the world just issue that needs fixin.

When Kit did it I called him out and we worked it out. But it was between us two. Besides he's not even around at the moment.

I'm not trying to do a group bashing. I'm trying to say that it's happened before, (as with Kit as you mentioned). What was posted is between the two of you. The fact that it has happened multiple times (by various people) is something we need as a group to talk about.

It needs to be discussed with the GM of the thread. Beyond that I've already addressed my concerns directly so I'm done with it.

In my mind it's less about what happened and more about the realization that we should at least say what we expect others (reasonably) to do on the role-play. For example, if you know you're going to be offline for a while tell people this. I don't think that's an unreasonable thought. But it's not something we as a group have talked about. I don't think it's unreasonable to have a discussion about this. And I just want to reiterate, I'm focusing on Wombat because of what just happened. Beyond the few instances, I'm completely cool with everything he has done so far in the role-play.

I don't want to enforce tyrannical requests. For example, it pains me everytime someone uses ass to mean the buttocks. To me the ass is a donkey. Arse is the correct term. But I'm not going to ask everyone else to use arse instead of ass, because that's unreasonable for me to do so.

Look, I understand I may cone off as a little zealous right now, but all I want is for the role-play to continue as it has been. And if we could prevent misunderstandings before they happen, than it's better.

But, now I'll get off my soap box, and let others actually speak their mind (or exercise their right not to if anyone doesn't want to.)

I'm really just here for the bewbies.

Add: I'm going to sleep in ten minutes. So if I'm off before anyone else's posts, good night.

Hey guys!

...Well, well.

I'm going to shoulder the blame for not having a clear set of rules for everyone to abide by. I've been in the realm of text based role playing for over a decade and so I often take for granted that not everyone is versed the the etiquette of our imaginary worlds.

...Plus I'm a piece of chaos, myself. I'm not fond of writing or enforcing regulations: I was hoping we could all just get along without.

Before I go into writing a code of conduct, I'd just like to say: please don't call people out in the OOC thread. I know it's happened before and I did little to intervene (in fact I logged on to find the issue resolved and only checked to see if I needed to get involved - and when I was told it was all good I didn't think it was necessary to make it a bigger deal)...so my bad, there. If someone writes something for or about your character in thread and you have a problem with it please contact that writer directly - or me, if you prefer an intermediary. Misunderstandings are easily resolved, more so when we show tact and give respect to our fellow writers. There is nothing worse, in my opinion, than to have some minor issue made public. It just makes the situation more ugly and is the stuff of hurt feelings.

I'm going to make a basic outline of rules, to be posted at the beginning of this thread upon completion. If anyone has any comments, concerns, or additions...feel free. You do not need to supply us with a specific instance of the infringement, if proposing a rule: just state it, back up your claim with why you think it'd be useful if you want, and leave it at that.

H'okay! Here we go:

]| Player Guidelines |[

  • First and foremost - do not write for characters that are not your own. This includes actions, speech...even things so small as expression-related reactions. I think Madwolf came up with a great example for this one:
"Pushing another character is fine. Pushing that character, having them fall over, then have the other character give the pusher their lunch money is not okay."
If at any point you have a question as to whether or not you are overstepping your bounds in a post - ask. Me, or the writer whose character it is you may be tempted to animate. Maybe you need them to nod or agree in order to continue your post - and while I've been guilty of making such assumptions of other characters (and even recently), I generally try to ask permission. Or, you know, posting short is always acceptable, too.

  • Respect your fellow writers! I expect to see turmoil between characters in thread but I don't want to see that aggression bleeding over into the OOC. Also - I know we're a playful bunch that enjoy calling each other names and tease... I'm not going to police interactions here, or act like a middle school teacher freaking out over idle threats. If I notice something I don't like I'm certain you'll get a message from me - but keep in mind that I miss things. So if something happens and you feel hurts about it, send me a message and I will try to resolve the issue.

  • Please keep the group informed of expected absences. We all have real lives and that's good! If I don't hear from a player and they disappear I'm likely to breeze over them for the time and let them back in when they return. Not a big deal - until we get to action. If the group finds itself at a point where the story cannot continue without a character (whose player is absent), I will hi jack the toon. It's not really the threat it sounds like: I have no interest in screwing someone over and so I would simply move the action and avoid doing anything too drastic. So, the penalties of this rule are about non-existent but...you know. It's courteous to keep co-writers informed.

Any additions? To be quite honest I've had a long and taxing day - my mind is mush and that's the best I have for the moment.

You put it better than I could even when I tried. That was the point I wanted to get across and fucked up royally.

I just noticed you called a character 'toon'. I couldn't help but giggle at the reference. Been awhile since I heard that.

But back to being serious I think that covers most of what I can think of.

Good, good.

Ha, I hadn't even noticed. Yeah...my mind is poisoned by MMOs.

"Imma roll a new toon!"

You know, I used to even chastise people for the use of the word.

"Character," I'd correct them.

...And now look at me! Calling role playing characters toons!

/laughs.

Ok I have just re read my post and realized I have way overstepped. I did try to keep specifics out of posts but forgot that even just having another persons Toon (lol) do something is a step over the line. I apologize to all I have offended and will try to be better in the future. However I will still be calling it an ass.

Morning, Wombat!

Me too! "Arse" sounds like a joke word.

...But then again I'm known for being vulgar.

Heya Womby. Thanks for the sentiment.

If anything we can call it 'dream sequence'. Ron is off sipping his lemonade and Roni sits there eating her pretezel. You there, bro? lawl.

And I enjoy being vulgar...until I am writing the description for a story.

nah it's okay...I have to take my medicine and I have edited my post.
I will try to behave myself in future.

/big wide eyes
