I think that the point Laurel is trying to make is this, this site, which is totally cool and fun to visit, can be shut down because of it. It may be fun for some, but I don't want something I enjoy to cease to exsist because of it. If the whole age issue really bugs you that much, don't mention an age. Imagine to yourself that the characters are underage. I think her request is fair. Could we all just abide by it? It would make life a lot easier for all of us.

Here's the text of the post, for those who don't wanna click:

I appreciate your feedback on this issue. This topic comes up from time to time and I
have no problem discussing it with anyone interested. When we started the site, we
had many discussions about whether we should put any limits on the type of content
that we accepted. The only "rule" that we both agreed on was that we didn't feel
comfortable publishing stories involving sexual acts with characters under 18. We are
certainly not suggesting that these stories are illegal, nor is this exclusion meant to be
an indictment of readers or authors of said stories. There are several popular sites
(White Shadow, Black Spectre, etc.) which offer these stories, and we certainly
appreciate their right to run their site in a way that they deem best for their users.

By the same token, we continue to believe that offering stories that involve sex with
children would not be the best decision for Literotica or its users. Unless we were to
publish every single document sent to us - regardless of its quality, content, copyright,
etc. - we will always be open to criticism by people who believe that we are trying to
"censor" the site. On the other hand, if we don't keep an eye on these issues, we
could end up filling the site with one-paragraph stories featuring violent child abuse
submitted by an anonymous user who stole the "story" from another site. Instead, we
try to do our best to allow free speech while maintaining the quality of integrity of
Literotica. As usual, I encourage anyone who has thoughts on this issue to respond to
this thread and let us know what you think.

I like underage roleplay,its pure fantasy,I can dream it and not get arrested.
How can anyone say underage roleplay is illegal,when you look at tv and films where murder,rape,and all types of violance is permmitted.
Your imagination cant be arrested,thats bullshit.

Folks it is so simple just do not give the characters ages-use your imaginations...it is soooo easy-it is not limiting it frees you artistically to creat whatever scene you desire without the pesky pin-pointing of chronological ages...go forth and roleplay...

Underage Characters

This opinion was stated by a registered member on another thread. It deals with the question an author had about posting stories on this site with underage characters. I thought it conveyed the message very clearly, so wanted to put it here.

"Your story will not be posted if your character has sex. Why? Well, for a very good reason. There are certain things that either are against the law, or will draw intense scrutiny from our law enforcement friends. In most jurisdictions to have sex with a fifteen year old is a felony.

There is a voter block that wants the authorities to remove all sites from the web that show or glorify sex. Therefore, it is an easy way for a district attorney to make a name for himself, and get some free publicity by investigating and/or arresting site owners.

For a site like Literotica, a district attorney can cause them to fail just by bringing suit, even if he knows that he
will have it dismissed by the court later. The cost of defending a suit, even if you win is $20,000, these days."

To me, that says that even if Literotica could win such a suit, they could still lose the board!

I think that is one of the main reasons for this site to restrict the age of characters to 18 or older. There are just to many 'prima donna' politicians and law enforcement officials that want to make a name for themselves and to go after a site like Literotica could be very tempting for them if characters of underage appeared here. I'm personally not against underage fantasy, but as the author of the above quote pointed out, just the cost of defending a lame lawsuit could cause a site such as this to fail.

And I think Literotica is to great a site to risk that...
