OOC: X-COM Tribute thread. Save the earth by killing Aliens

Intelligence is the priority in any conflict. I guess this is where we assemble our special ops team and assign them a simple recon mission. From there, we assign missions as intelligence demands, expanding gameplay as interest increases.

In addition to guiding the superstory, organizing players into deployable units and keeping tabs on them is likely to be a job in itself. I'm guessing we'll need a character to be the voice in everyone's earpiece while the GM thinks up insidious alien ambushes. In the future, we'll likely have squad leaders barking orders, but to get the game rolling a communications officer would do.

I kind of want to play a pilot. The guy who try's to down alien craft. But if I play that I won't have much to do during the squad moves. This is the point at which I ask to play to characters. :cattail:

I totally agree with what you said about intelligence. Unless you specifically want a role gathering intelligence I will feed it to you, and most information will come in from siting.

If they land or crash the member nations will give you some time before they deal with it. Increased activity leads to more missions like infiltration.

Two characters isn't a problem since despite Space Above and Beyond most pilots don't take part in ground combat though the Skyranger (troop transport) according to the game is piloted by two of the ground troops, so if the whole squad is killed you lose the ship too. Fact I found out the hard way.

Nah the fly boy I am thinking is in the attack craft. But then again maybe I'll want to do a scientist instead. I'll figure it out by the week end.

Okay either way we could have a lot of fun with it. So I have two interested parties...good deal.

I'd def be up for graphics update, a tweak or two...and whoever has the rights to the game to release it again

Intellectual property rights

The trademark for the X-COM name was filed on May 25, 1995, by MicroProse Software. Following the acquisition and subsequent merger of MicroProse with Hasbro Interactive, the X-COM intellectual property was also transferred to Hasbro Interactive on August 19, 1998. Due to financial difficulties, 100% of Hasbro Interactive was sold to the French concern Infogrames Entertainment SA on January 29, 2001; as part of this transfer, the X-COM IP was legally transferred to Infogrames on December 21, 2001 (shortly thereafter, Infogrames was renamed Atari Inc., able to do this since acquiring several Atari IPs from Hasbro Interactive). In 2005 Atari transferred several IPs to Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. and X-COM was transferred with them on June 12, 2005. The X-COM IP is currently owned by Take-Two and its subsidiaries.

So interested in joining us here as we write about the battles to come...

Calculus and Chemistry is a potent mix. Sorry I haven't posted my character. I haven't felt like taking the initiative for much of anything intellectual the last few weeks.

I'll still try and get something going posted soon.

I'll lead the assault team and decide which team member opens which suspicious-looking door first.

the key is never doing it yourself

Well you want to lead a squad. Good idea. A Skyranger carries 14 though it says cargo I'm ruling that you have space for 14 including two pilots (in the game one of the crew flew the craft so if you lost your pilot you lost the craft two...not fair!), and all the gear they'll need for a typical mission. Spoils of war like dead alien bodies, artifacts, and even ships can be hold off by scientists, engineers, and other operatives to follow later.

Trust me I understand distractions. My truck got banged up today driving home from work, and I'm trying to end a long time business relationship. I'll be back to writing, but just not today.

What wall are you closet?

The one without the trap....

You don't have to have the fastest character.....just not the slowest

And of coarse....

The Universe is divided into two groups

Group A things you kill to get experience points

Group B things that help you kill things to get experience points

Group A and B are interchangeable depending on how close you are to leveling up.

So any takers who want to kick alien butt?

Games damn popular online still.
