In the thread "Tumps Orders Removal Confederate Monument," there is a user Chadrone who is openly using racist and homophobis slurs.

I'm talking the N-word and the F-word.

I've reported it. I'm trying to make sure somebody in charge here sees it. This is not okay!

sorry about the typos I'm a little bit in shock

This is not okay.
It might not be okay, but don't expect the mods or even the site owners to care. Calling anyone a pedophile used to be taboo, even here and on the General Board. Repeated and even singular offenses were grounds for immediate banning. Until management gave up enforcing the rule.

You'll know you've arrived at PB when someone calls you a pedo or pedo defender.

My simple rule is to not type any words I would not say out loud to my own mother in public. I would get my mouth washed out with soap even now.

Some of them have been dancing around saying slurs for weeks—spelling them phonetically, using euphemisms they think are clever. Finally someone goaded them into saying them out in the open.

who says what hate speech is? come on think here. i think the term hate speech is hateful and should be banned !
Do you think it's actually ok to use the "N-word"? Not hypothetically, not using bs logic trying to be clever.

Are you comfortable saying it? Do you use it in everyday speech? Do you call out to black people on the street and call them that?

Do you say it loudly and openly at work? Would you say it on a date?

Would you say it to your mom?

Would you say it right here, right now?

I don't think you would. You think you're being clever conflating "free speech" with "hate speech," but the fact of the matter is, even YOU think that word is offensive and you don't use it.

I've got 20 years of experience moderating other sites.

I would be delighted to be active and volunteer and I will nuke the racists and the bigots on the site on sight. It would be my pleasure.

I would also learn all the rest of the rules and make sure any moderation I do is within that rule set. I also like to explain the rule set and give people a chance before I hit the ban button.

Bans aren't punishments, they're a reminder that if you don't follow the rules of a community you won't be allowed in.

It's not a moral judgment. Punishments in general don't work.

If you INTEND to follow the rules and made a mistake, a reminder, a warning, a temp ban, will give you the needed tools to follow the rules. And it's not a moral judgment, you come back and be a model citizen and no one will ever care you broke a rule once.

If you don't intend to follow the rules and you intend to disrespect the community then warnings don't matter, punishments won't reform, you will find loopholes to avoid a ban if that, and continue breaking the rules.

So, the only cure is to remove the cancer permanently so it doesnt come back.

There are only two kinds of people, folks trying to behave and follow the rules because they want to, and the folks who try to do whatever they want, say screw the rules, and will go for loopholes in the rule set to try to continue breaking the rules but, have a technical reason why they're safe.

I gotta be honest, I don't care about rules lawyering. If you break the rules on the regular and find a loophole, the loophole won't save you. That's how I always have moderated.

I file it under being an arse and deliberately trying to troll the community and look for ways to break the rules within the rule set and I just think it's better for everyone involved if they move on.

They clearly aren't here for the actual purpose of the site, and the community doesn't want them. It's the best kind of divorce possible.

Also I clearly have a lot of time on my hands, so. If the staff wants help, I am a jobless wonder with internet access. I'm very enthusiastic about keeping a community welcoming to the vast majority who follow the rule set.

Not a Free Speech fan I'm guessing.
Same question for you. Are you comfortable using the N-word yourself?

If not, then you are aware it is offensive to most people. Your attempt to connect "Hate speech" to "free speech" is nothing more thana thought exercise if you yourself don't use the word.

i often wondered about words. if we stop using any words, what words will someone stop us from using next. it's a slippery slope! am i the only one ? who makes this list ? should there be a list of words no one should ever use ? like an non encyclopedia? hmm makes me wonder.
It's not the words.

I don't believe in "bad words". I do believe that people are deliberately hurtful, or I have read history and I know what blood libel is.

How do you convince ordinary people to be okay with, say, rounding up innocent people and putting them in labor camps where they die off out of sight? Well, first you blame all problems in society on them, invent fake problems and pin it on them, and call them a dehumanizing slur.

That is a form of political violence, because it results in people thinking it is totally okay to commit violence against these people, because they've been conditioned to think of them as not human, and the enemy.

So, it's a prelude to violence, it almost always results in violence and loss of human rights, it's political warfare, and people die.

That matters more than hurt feelings, so, slurs, aren't okay, dehumanizing rhetoric isn't okay, libel isn't okay.

I would never tolerate it and for those who badly, seriously need to spread blood libel against people or else they just can't get through life, oh well. I couldn't begin to care about their hurt feelings, because they don't care about anyone else anyway.

I want them to feel like shit. By design. That's the point.

Yes, well-said.

They tell themselves that since black people sometimes use in their own community, it’s okay for white bigots to use it too.

so you want a community of people who only say what you want to hear ? who becomes the decent police ?
I do want a decent community where bigots and fascists and homophobes don't get to slander, spread libel, and antagonize the other 95 percent of the community with impunity.

I would nuke each person without hesitation and on sight.

I'd never even come close to feeling like I was wrong to do so, either.

Free speech means you're free to yell what you want on the street corner, a website is a paid platform, it requires money to continue to exist, and, like any business, the far right demands the right to refuse service, they got, to persecute people JUST LIKE ME.

But they haaaaaaaaaate it when the shoe is on the other foot and they get shown the door.

They hate living under the rules they themselves advocate for.

Tough shit is my reaction to that.
