Do you think it's actually ok to use the "N-word"? Not hypothetically, not using bs logic trying to be clever.
I have used it twice, and I fully believe I was okay both times.
1. In teaching lessons on world war 2 and american slavery, and other historical instances of people using dehumanizing rhetoric to make it okay to treat human being like animals, or objects, in other words, the horrific things they did to human beings but it was "okay" at the time because they weren't equal, or weren't considered human, or had been dehumanized and propagandized into being the hated other, the enemy, I made sure to list the full uncensored slurs that their persecutors used. Those were the words used to make atrocities "okay" to the average person. Never forget.
2. While moderating a site, I asked fellow moderators and people who had been harassed by bullies and racists and other assorted creeps, let's make a list of all the banned slurs.
Ergo, I had to type out those slurs. The n word was included on the list.
So, two purposes- explaining why these words are always used as a prelude to violence, war crimes, and the worst atrocities in history, which is why they are not just harmless insults.
AND
Listing them as things that shall be policed as hate speech, for the above reason.
And I felt not a twinge of guilt writing out all the slurs in full each time.
Because I was reminding people why these slurs shouldn't be part of our community's speech, ever. And, I was not using them to dehumanize or insult anyone.
I was saying, this word, was used, to hurt people, how, when, and why.
And, that we should police its usage, and this is why.
And the only people who ever objected were the worst sort of shitbag humans you don't want in your community anyway.
Without apologies, both them and those words were promptly banned.
And it made every single community better for it. Every time. Without exception.
However, as a regular user, I follow the rule when it says not to use the word.
Because I follow the rules of the communities I frequent.
