Philondran ran up the stairs, taking 2 steps with each stride. He was late for the class and even if he wasn't so sure about the things he was learning, he was very much afraid of what would happen if he didnt put more effort into his studies; Master Aderas could be very stern.
5 Years ago the Master had found him in a remote village, working at the farm of his parents. The old mage had seen the potential in the 16 year old boy and so, even if he had been much older then all the other students, he had taken him to the Royal Mage Acadamy. At first Philondran had been extatic, he would learn magic and help to keep order in the kingdom but soon he learned that all that came with a price.
Mages where allways male and they could perform incedible things with magic. They could change the weather, prevent droughts or help defend the citizens against monsters. But for all that they needed energy, called orgone and this orgone was only provided by certain women and only if they experienced pain. At first Philondran hat tried to ignore that fact and studied several theories but last month he had turned 21 and now he was expected to start his more practical lessons, he hated them.
Most other students had come to the acadamy at a much younger age and somehow they didn't seemed to care that much about women, Phil had grown up with 2 sisters and had problems with inflicting pain to prompt the release of orgone. Normaly he would have been ignored by the mages, but Master Aderas had sensed a great potential in him ans so he sponsored him. By now he was certainly regretting this decision but he would not let Phil go because then he was loosing his face completly.
Phil slowed down before he reached the classroom and checked his apperance in one of the mirrors that where lining the hall. He brushed a unrully strand of brown hair back with one hand and scrachted the short stubble that was building around his mouth. He didn't look this dishelfed and his simple brown robes where clean enought as well.
Satisfied that he was not the last one to enter he nodded to some of the other latecomers and then entered with them. The room was not one of the normal classrooms he had attended most of the last 5 years, this was a larger, circular lecture hall, with benched all round and a table in the middle. He could see a woman bound to the table. She was dressed in a simple, sleeveless, grey gown and apparently sedated. Masters Aderas and Kromun where standing to the side and any time now the lecture was about to begin.
