Why is healthcare and medication so fucking expensive?

i went to the doc today about a persistent cough and came out with a ton of other things wrong. It felt like i had visited my mechanic. i found out i have a heart murmur and might be anemic...and i still have the cough. Now i have to get a cardiogram, an x-ray, and bloodwork done. On top of all that i have to pay $230 for the inhaler that will take care of my cough. i've been fine up to this point. i don't think i'm dying. Is all of this necessary? i wonder.
