I snuff out the last of the candles. The Inn is deathly quiet as I head up to my loft. I will have found memories of those that helped decorate the Inn for Christmas. I dared the coming year and the long lonely days to come.
In a few more hours it will be a new year. I hope that it will bring, all who have called the China Pearl Inn Home, happiness, peace of spirit, and all they wish for.
As I walk up from the harbour, thankful for a peaceful, if not cold and damp, journey, I see the welcoming lights of the Pearl through the swirling fingers of freezing mist. My bones seem to ache from need of rest; it's about time I came back.
The New Year has been rung in. She sat on the rafters and contemplated The Pearl and what remained of the decorations. With a wave of her hand they all vanished into a swirling portal, which closed and all that remained exactly how it has always been. A soft smile played on her lips. With a slight nod of her head, she too vanished back to a world beyond this one. She left a note for CG.
The Inn is quiet again as I walk wearily to the bar, RL has been playing heavily on me of late. I feel I'm in need of some rest, a good meal, a decent scotch, and some fine company of the female variety; not necessarily in that order. Still, I have to start somewhere....
" Phil Ming, you old reprobate!! What's on the menu!! "
I must admit, 2023 has not started out on the best foot for alot of people, myself included. Between work being busy, getting sick with a nasty nasty bug, and a couple of deaths that hit fairly close to home, it has got to get better, right?
Morning Rain I am sorry to hear things have had such a bad start for you in 2023. As you say things must get better. Something to drink to warm the body and the spirits.
Hi Rain, CG, sorry to hear it's been a rough start, hasn't been great all round. Things pass though, and we'll get through, like we've done every time before. Until then, let's settle down with Dim Sum and good company.
