part 11 of the China Pearl Inn

"I did say you were better than a turkey; vagaries were completely intentional. Kinda tickles my funny bone with such a fucking boring statement. I can only plead insanity by way of mental fatigue." She drapes an arm over her eyes and blows a long raspberry at the room.

(it's an old word)

She snickers, "Oh uh huh, I'm pretty sure the insanity is just built in at this point."

She coughs, "Massacre!"

"I ain't about to forget Nurse Shannon anytime soon and its been...over a decade. But you do know sleep solves fatigue, right? Why are you doing this to yourself Madam Crazy?"

Snorts in a laughing sigh, "I think it came preloaded in this meat suit... I need to download all of Shannon's musings and posts. That character had enough craziness for a novel or three. I had just left my ex-husband around that time. It was a good outlet."

Yawns hugely, "That would be the masochist part of the sadomasochist mental profile. It is for a good reason, though. I've always been a night owl, and I get to spend one one-on-one time with my grandbabies. I live with my kids and grands, or they live with me, whatever. I switched myself to the night shift so I can keep an ear out for the little ones and their parents can get full nights of sleep, 6 days a week."
"So, my clock is now happily flipped. I am awake during the quieter hours, I get more done, and I get to do something for my kids that I wish I had when they were little."

The elf sits on the sofa beside Nina, Still glaring at his turkey opponent across the room. “This turkey playes 4d chess, and I’m just playing checkers unfortunately.”

After an unknown amount of time, having her mouth hang open and staring at the elf, she shoved him off the couch.

"4D chess my ass. I need a really good nap... it took me way too long to realize you're yanking my fuciking leg."

She popped in to check on things an d found herself with a mouthful of feathers, plucking them free and tossing them on the bartop, she glared around the room looking for the culprit and snaked out a hand to grab Tom's legs. He let out a loud squawk and tried to flap his wings, to not avail.

"Alright, you feathery sucker. You have a standing appointment with Poo-Ming (I hope I got the chef's name right) and I just don't have time to mess with you. Too much to do."

Turning, she set off for the kitchens and was met by the chef who was waving around a butcher knife. She held out the bird to him with a gesture. Not understanding a single word he was speaking, she was glad to leave the crazy bird in his hands. She turned and marched back into the Inn proper and slid behind the bar to pour herself a strong cup of coffee. Plopping down on a barstool, she sighed and stared at her continual list on the clipboard.

"I hate moving. I hate even more having to look for a mover on top of everything else," she grumbled.

“You do realize he’ll just come back, I might have summoned something to possess the turkey by accident.” He lifts his hands, “It was an accident.”
Getting up from the ground he mock glares at Nina, “what was that for, never played 4 d chess?”

It messed up the quoting of the previous post and I can’t fix it on my phone. Oh well you’all will figure it out.
He listens to Phu Ming fighting with Tom. It sounded like curses in Chinese. He didn’t know the language, but cursing in any language tended to sound like that, cursing.

"Damn it, Glad. What was that feathery thing possessed with?" She glared at the elf. "And since when did it become an accident, hm? Ah well, at least we'll have turkey for dinner and if he comes back? We'll just stick him in the freezer for Christmas."

She just bent her head back to her tasks at hand with a shake of her head.

“I mean I don’t speak turkey, so I didn’t exactly get his name and social security number, in fact I didn’t run as fast as he did. I will be more careful with my desires to not be bored in the future. Be careful what you wish for my ma always said.”

Well, she knew she couldn't be too upset with him being bored. After all, how much mischief had she created within these walls? *grins*
On another note, my head aches. I've been on the phone all afternoon with moving companies. Talk about competitive. *bangs her head on the bar top*

One thing to watch with any mover: the fee is by weight, and they'll often show up to load the truck with a near-empty gas tank. Then they'll fill it on the way to be weighed. This way you can pay them to transport their own fuel, rather than just your stuff. At 6 lbs a gallon and a tank that holds between 150 and 300 gallons, that means you could end up paying for an extra 900 to 1800 pounds. Usually a good idea to follow the truck after it's loaded to make sure they don't stop, or to see how many gallons they take, multiply by six, and insist they deduct that from the loaded tare weight.

(Sorry, one more thing to worry about... )

Thanks Tio. I hate to say that I understand some tricks of the trade but having been an active duty military spouse for 18 years with 11 moves under my belt, I get it. Even if I am dealing with a Vet. owned moving business, I am always being careful. It's a one day move so after they're all packed up, we'll be right behind them to the new house. Thankfully, the move is less than five miles from our current location, but yeah. I'm always careful.

“I had movers not show up during covid, and had friends and family just have to drive an hour just to help me last minute. Crazy times back then.”

Oh heavens, Glad... that's a real fear of mine. I do my due diligence on movers but even then, in the back of my mind I am wondering if they have just taken my money (my deposit) and will not show up. So, my fingers are crossed and my prayers said nightly. I keep feeling this panic building up in the depth of my throat as this move approaches. Deep breaths, for sure. I try to lose myself in the daily things that need doing and have to get done before moving day. Yesterday, we went out and did some furniture shopping and that helps keep the panic at bay. Oh, and the [anic is also there as our closing day approaches as well. I keep trying to reassure myself that this is a new adventure. Yeeeah, not too sure how that's turning out so far. LOL.

Walks in, shaking some wet from the snow outside off before taking a look into the rafters, looking for old friends, and looking around with a slight smile at seeing some familiar faces.

"Well, I'm glad to see the Pearl is still running. I've got a new face, but I hope that a few of you remember me."

Looks at Cait.

"Have you kept up with Mansion in the past few years? I was wondering if my old familiar is still running around there. Cheeky lil red panda always causing mischief?"

"Darkness Warrior, we never got to interact much, but I do remember you. I'm glad to see you are still around as well."

Welcome, new old face. I don't know who you were, but it's always nice to meet someone. Our host, cg, is out with some health issues; we're hoping to hear good news. Cait is busy moving; she'll likely be back in a week or so. Phoo Ming is on vacation, so it's serve yourself nowadays. You might find Jack's ever-expanding miniature railroad village of interest; it is the newest addition to the China Pearl.

Thank you for the warm welcome Tio, I guess you can call me Guff? I really should have thought of nicknames before choosing my new name!
Did the old wolf fall skiing again? Seems I have come at a transitional time! Cait is always worth the wait. With the bartender gone, I do wonder if my old gourd is behind the bar still?
Oh, do explain this marvel to me. I was just selling some bits of a railroad village the other day. I love the passion the enthusiasts put into them.

It's quite elaborate, Guff, and Jack adds to it every time he's here. If you scroll back through his posts here, you'll get to see it. I'm afraid I don't have any details on cg, but it would seem to be more serious than a fall on skis. I've written to him, but haven't had a reply.

That is a bit concerning! I do hope he is well. I'll have to spend some more time perusing the old post. It's been ages!
