"I guess it would depend on which appetites are doing the complimenting.""I'm not sure that's a compliment really but I'll take it!"
"Well then I guess I'd have to ask the complimenter (making a new word) to fess up!""I guess it would depend on which appetites are doing the complimenting."
She popped in to check on things an d found herself with a mouthful of feathers, plucking them free and tossing them on the bartop, she glared around the room looking for the culprit and snaked out a hand to grab Tom's legs. He let out a loud squawk and tried to flap his wings, to not avail.
"Alright, you feathery sucker. You have a standing appointment with Poo-Ming (I hope I got the chef's name right) and I just don't have time to mess with you. Too much to do."
Turning, she set off for the kitchens and was met by the chef who was waving around a butcher knife. She held out the bird to him with a gesture. Not understanding a single word he was speaking, she was glad to leave the crazy bird in his hands. She turned and marched back into the Inn proper and slid behind the bar to pour herself a strong cup of coffee. Plopping down on a barstool, she sighed and stared at her continual list on the clipboard.
"I hate moving. I hate even more having to look for a mover on top of everything else," she grumbled.
"Damn it, Glad. What was that feathery thing possessed with?" She glared at the elf. "And since when did it become an accident, hm? Ah well, at least we'll have turkey for dinner and if he comes back? We'll just stick him in the freezer for Christmas."“You do realize he’ll just come back, I might have summoned something to possess the turkey by accident.” He lifts his hands, “It was an accident.”
Getting up from the ground he mock glares at Nina, “what was that for, never played 4 d chess?”
Well, she knew she couldn't be too upset with him being bored. After all, how much mischief had she created within these walls? *grins*“I mean I don’t speak turkey, so I didn’t exactly get his name and social security number, in fact I didn’t run as fast as he did. I will be more careful with my desires to not be bored in the future. Be careful what you wish for my ma always said.”
Thanks Tio. I hate to say that I understand some tricks of the trade but having been an active duty military spouse for 18 years with 11 moves under my belt, I get it. Even if I am dealing with a Vet. owned moving business, I am always being careful. It's a one day move so after they're all packed up, we'll be right behind them to the new house. Thankfully, the move is less than five miles from our current location, but yeah. I'm always careful. One thing to watch with any mover: the fee is by weight, and they'll often show up to load the truck with a near-empty gas tank. Then they'll fill it on the way to be weighed. This way you can pay them to transport their own fuel, rather than just your stuff. At 6 lbs a gallon and a tank that holds between 150 and 300 gallons, that means you could end up paying for an extra 900 to 1800 pounds. Usually a good idea to follow the truck after it's loaded to make sure they don't stop, or to see how many gallons they take, multiply by six, and insist they deduct that from the loaded tare weight.
(Sorry, one more thing to worry about... )
Oh heavens, Glad... that's a real fear of mine. I do my due diligence on movers but even then, in the back of my mind I am wondering if they have just taken my money (my deposit) and will not show up. So, my fingers are crossed and my prayers said nightly. I keep feeling this panic building up in the depth of my throat as this move approaches. Deep breaths, for sure. I try to lose myself in the daily things that need doing and have to get done before moving day. Yesterday, we went out and did some furniture shopping and that helps keep the panic at bay. Oh, and the [anic is also there as our closing day approaches as well. I keep trying to reassure myself that this is a new adventure. Yeeeah, not too sure how that's turning out so far. LOL.“I had movers not show up during covid, and had friends and family just have to drive an hour just to help me last minute. Crazy times back then.”
