Peace on earth. "A sea of dead and wounded" in Mosul

I'm not here to argue politics. I haven't the heart for it at the moment. A man I know is stationed at that base in Mosul after being sent to Iraq for the 2nd time since this began. Luckily, he happened to be at the other end of the base at the time of the attack.

I'm just here to leave flowers for those who weren't so lucky and for him in the hope that he makes it home a 2nd time and that this time it's for good.

The Iraqis are no more monolithic than anybody else.

There are certainly some Iraqis who regard the U.S. as a friend, want to bring democracy to their country and help how they can.

Some see the U.S. as a chance to get rich or obtain power. These will help if the price is right.

Some wish Saddam back. Their good fortune was tied to Saddam and long for 'once upon a time'. These are likely on the insurgent's side, but not necessarily.

Some want the House of Submission spread throughout the entire world no matter the cost. You can guess what they're up to.

And most just want the fucking shooting to stop so they can get on with their lives.

'Trust me, turtle. That's the way it always is."
