Rita

http://www.Bibracte.dreamwater.org/ATWAS/PhoebeRita.jpgMoving between Miranda and Rick, I am prepared to take the next blow. Anything to stop this madness. To my surprise he drops the cat o' nine tails in disgust.

"Rick... This is wrong... The intentions are good. But this... this is not right. IT has to END. I've called the police."

I can't believe I thought this would actually work. Even Miranda doesn't deserve this. I turn to look at her. Bruised and bleeding, she is dangling from the ceiling like a broken marionette.

I turn back to him. My eyes pleading.

Rick nods, a grim look on his face. "Some things will never change. Some people will never change. It's over, Ree."

An Ending....

Rita's announcement of her phone call was a relief...

Untying Miranda's ropes I lowered her gently to the floor as Rita spread several blankets for her to lie upon...

"There are salves and pain killers in my bags, I'll leave them behind" I told Rita soberly as I stood and looked at her bent over the moaning woman.

"Rita, Someday...perhaps?" I said slowly, wondering what it would have been like, if I could just have had that vacation...."Are you going to be OK?"

"Yes, Someday. But you need to go..." She replied, her head turning upwards and her eyes meeting mine. "I'll be fine, NOW GO>>>>"

Her last words told me of the pain she felt as well, and I turned and walked out the door...The bag I dropped on the steps, I wouldn't need it or the contents, all were replacable at the next stop...where ever I ended up...

As I turned the bike onto the paved road I met Greg and Terri, together in his pickup and I flagged them down, warning them off and telling them.

"This was wrong...You can't force something that was meant to be, Miranda is what she want's to be.....Not what we wnated her to"

A look of relief passed over both faces, then one of resolve as Terri announced.

"We're going up there anyways, she'll need friends to help her, and to know they care..."

Nodding, I kicked the engine to life and turned it onto the two lane....finishing the journey I had begun...A single wave over my head was my goodbye...
