Politics Forum???

This is an interesting suggestion and one that strikes me as a definite possibility.

One element of any anti-free speech law that the Ashcroft/Bush administration may try to pass (COPA, for example) is that the material, to be deemed censorable, must have no artistic, intellectual, or political value (or something like that). This site already has inarguable artistic & intellectual value. Perhaps opening a political forum would further solidify the fact that we also encourage political debate from any side of the aisle.

My only concern with the idea is that we don't want to so splinter the General Board that each forum has a few posts instead of one forum having a lot of interesting posts.

As usual, your feedback will decide which way we go with this idea. Feel free to email me if you'd rather not post publicly, too.

I think there's already a few too many. Like Online RP and Sexual RP could be one forum, and story discussion and story feedback could be one forum. Politics? I don't think so. Just my $.02.

I doubt we'd stay on topic on the Politics Board. PC managed to suggest a champagne bath in the middle of the racial joke thread. A division along topic lines would serve more to divide the posters into the serious group and the dolly group, with even less chance of interaction between the two, or the ability of posters to be 'tweeners.

I like the General Board the way it is.

The mixture of fun, serious, absurd, nasty, friendly, sexy, mean... all of it makes this board just about perfect.

Don't change a thing.

:)

It is not always the same people posting on political threads. Many of the issues being debated aren't even strictly speaking "politics" but Religion, Education, sports, et al. If all of the debates are segregated into a debate forum or politics, religion, sports, education et al forums, only those who like to debate for the fun of it will participate.

Here on the General Board, there is a much wider audience for any given discussion topic whether serious or silly. Most of the participants wouldn't even know the particular subject they're passionate about had ever been brought up if the serious threads are segregated into other forums.

Coming from someone who is up to my eyeballs in politics on a day to day basis, I am the treasurer for a rather large and powerful county political party, I enjoy the way this is set up. Sure, a some more structured debates might be more strucured but that one interesting comment for out of nowhere is like a breath of fresh air.
I like jumping around during one visit from discussion on zero tolerance to publically admitting to have bad 80's songs on your hard drive.
So far so good.

Keep up the good work. This is my first experience. And I admit the erotic stories caught my eye. But the fact I do not have any idea where my thoughts will be taken when I log on is why I keep coming back.
