Polygamy: Should it be allowed?

I also had a brother who was gay and killed himself. Surviving brother spent 17 years sharing a room...no idea he was gay until the day of hsi funeral.

Surviving brother is convinced that gayness and suicide are caused by demonic possession. Same surviving brother also tells my nieces and nephews that I'm the reason why the family became burdened with sin. Sends his kids out to convert the heathen.

So lots of variation in a household, I would say, from experience, is possible.

So basically, I'm used to stuff being my fault, and being infuriated by intolerance, while neck deep in the stuff. You get used to it. And it's better than being one of the folks that think like that, all in all.

My daughter was a rebel and handed out her Harry Potter books to kids who weren't allowed to read them.

Vive La Revolucion!

Yay Diva daughter!

education is the mortal enemy of intolerance.

Clever, clever, clever, very clever and sophisticated...

Led by xssve, the hundering thurd of amoralists raises a cloud of dust and a hearty, Hi yo, Silver, as Tonto licks boots as usual.

What marvelous dialectic. everything including the kitchen sink of mother education thrown in for good measure.

No wonder those poor children you send off to college are so fucked up...self evident.

What you read in the prior two pages is not an intellectual rebellion against the inadequacies of the past, not even the doubt of ideology and theology, but a total rejection of reason and logic and the pursuit of knowledge.

Rather a glorification of the egalitarians and the human parasites, losers, whining because they have no character to define.

A minor sect of perverts on a porn site is of little concern to anyone, as long as occasionally someone lets the air out of their balloon.

Rather than joining the human quest for knowledge through the ages, the pursuit of truth and ethics in all human actions; the hardy 'ho's' of the Hangout, simply take the easy way out and reject all knowledge and truth as, 'inconvenient', and declare in the midst of a group grope, that all is just opinion anyway and totally subjective and relativistic.

Wonderful.

(Doncha just love my alliteration and word play? It sure as hell ain't foreplay, not in this gathering, wouldn't dip my wick for a billion rubles.)

Oh, you bad, bad man, Amicus...shame on you...!

It's not foreplay, it's masturbation.

And really, I didn't need to see that.

I see some men arguing that polygamy will reduce their personal chances of finding a mate.

But in this monogamous society, an enormous percentage of the population -- male and female both-- has found it difficult or impossible to find a mate. I doubt that will change one way or another.

I wouldn't have seen it if you hadn't quoted it, lovie... Have some compassion for yourself, put the gentleman on ignore!

I've recently been reclaimed from feral. As long as they keep feeding me at regular hours, I'll try to stay that way.

Will you still love me in the morning if I flame?

I think it should be allowed as long as we can marry both genders. I'd love to have a couple of wives thrown in with my husbands. I like to have options.

It is allowed, most definitely :)

Good, I will start my commune then of all my spouses. Not in Texas though, I wouldn't want the damn government blowing us all up and stuff.

I think I'm safe as long as I don't let anyone formally worship me.

Chuckles....'masturbation?' Well, I will confess to a bit of mental pleasure as the words just rolled out in perfect symmetry and cadence...perhaps some of my fellow writers might have experienced that from time to time.

But as usual, the 'usual suspects', unable to respond adequately to my rapier sharp wit and sarcasm, make a personal attack yet again.

Y'all do that every time one of my barbs gets a little too close to the core of your belief.

It is my hope that a few non participants will see the basic truth of my words; that the left is totally morally bankrupt and floundering.

Without being specifically personal to any one particular poster, enough was posted and shared to indicate a failure of the relativistic morality you advocate.

That is not to say I recommend or advocate any particular moral stance, I seldom do, but as conventional, traditional morality is being severely challenged on all fronts, as time moves on and conditions change, a 'check your premises', imperative becomes essential.

Good luck with your experimentations in lifestyles....

Amicus...

Don't go to S. Carolina, either...

This, coming from a man who advocates child labor?

The truth of your words reveals a man of no morals, but many platitudes.

I saw a very interesting show on ABC last night. They spent an hour with a polygamist family in Centennial Park, Az. It is a polygamist community of fundamental Mormons.

My only other views of polygamy have been the wackos of Colorado City.

This was a man and two wives. All were very happy with their lifestyle. The news crew wasn't restricted in any way. They were allowed access to the home, schools, church services, and they interviewed a group of teens from the town.

Basically, it was a story of consenting adults. They all seemed to be really good and well adjusted people. Take out the polygamy, and we'd all consider this to be an idealic town. The people are friendly and caring for each other.

So what's your thoughts? Should polygamy be allowed among consenting adults?

Here's a link to an ABC story about the family

I have not read the whole thread or the link, but I would be interested in the "WHY NOT" answers. Why not one woman and five husbands?

Dunno how that relates to the thread, nor when I might have advocated such a thing, in any event it is quite a reach for you to come up with that as a criticism.

I went to work as a child, at eight years of age, I was contributing to a rather large household and not just in farm work; paper route, stoop labor in the fields, picking fruits and eventually hired farm work as I learned to drive. Some of what I say is experience and learning, not ideology or abstract theory.

You have an anti corporate, anti business agenda that blinds you to the reality of the situation in third world countries. Often the pittance of a wage paid to children is the difference between starvation and minimal sustenance in many families in many places.

My children were never required to work at a young age and I would hope economic conditions in this nation will never again require such things..

If traditional tribal and feudal aspects of many third world countries could be replaced with a market economy, there would be no need for child labor.

But since you advocate a command economy, forced labor, no rights for women, then I can understand why you want to keep a people oppressed and dependent on a strong central government.

Human freedom and a free market; even though they share a word, you still can't seem to make the connection.

such a deal.

Free market actually extends to free love? Thank you, Ami. :catroar:

Indeed.

If you do skim the thread, you will find at least two anecdotes about polyandry. Mine and-- I think-- Bluebell's?

(ETA) Based on your thread, Charley, would you want to live with five "dumb men"?

Oye, I can't even stand one. I'm nauseated at just the idea of having to deal with five. LOL

But to each their own I guess. As long as no ones getting hurt to each their own.

Amicus, my friend, I've got to give you credit. You know how to piss a guy off. You know the trigger words. "No rights for women"? What happened to "herpes-lipped liberals", which you used in another thread? That was very creative.

You may think pissing people off by calling them names and impugning their character is some kind of talent, but many see it more as a character flaw. In your case, you're so good at it, you defeat your purpose, because you end up with no more audience, since they all put you on 'ignore', (something I should have done a long time ago.)

You're a joke, my friend, but no one's laughing.

I'm so glad you said it, because I would've been much ruder. All this "poor men, won't be able to get a woman" is about to make me pound my head on my desk in frustration.

(am I on the list?)

It is already happening. I read a longish article in the NY Times (I think) some months ago about American men who cannot get married, even if they are employed. Some of the reasons given:

- Women don't want to marry them, because they can't generate enough income, or generate less income than them.

- The literacy rates of women have risen steeply, yet women in general prefer to marry men of equal or higher education than themselves

And it went on.

EDIT: found it but i think it is incomplete

That may be true, but it has nothing to do with polygamy. The people that have difficulty finding a partner now will probably face the same difficulties regardless of what the future of marriage is. Still doesn't mean that multiple marriage should be illegal.

I've entertained the theory that he's actually Andy Kaufmann.
