Potentially good news for fans of fantasy

Thought RoP was decent. I didn't finish the series though. I had to half way disassociate it from Tolkien in my brain though otherwise I would have been highly annoyed. But told myself its a TV show made for a modern audience in a different medium than the source material.
The depiction of the proto-Hobbits was deeply annoying. It reminded me of the awful Radagast the Brown in the Hobbit film.

That’s the thing. It would’ve been a decent fantasy series on its own, but of course Amazon had to cannibalize the second-best known IP, half-digest it, and serve from its bowels this turd of a show.

It’s not just about discrepancies compared to the source material. Jackson turns Arwen into a ranger for several scenes to avoid having the audience wonder WhoTF is Glorfindel, but that takes away nothing from her overall character. Warrior-princess Galadriel, though…

I suspect the reason was to create a more significant female role, which the books are rather short of.

In the books at least, she is half-elven, while the Rangers are men. Glorfindel is a high-elf.

My thoughts are that the 2 shows you mentioned as "trash" both wound up decent shows. Maybe they weren't what you wanted or expected as a fan of the source material, but both were enjoyable for many people to watch. I was saddened when WoT was canceled before my favorite parts were realized.

Your opinion is that they were trash, and yeah, that's definitely one way to feel about them, but not the only way. I hope you enjoy the new stuff coming out.

I sat through both seasons of Rings of Power and I'll tell you there was nothing good about it. The timeline is fubar, the writing is the worst I've ever seen leaving the cast unable to convey their character because they all acted differently from one episode to the next, TBH I watched the last few episodes the way I'd stare at a bad accident, know I shouldn't look but couldn't help myself.

The showrunners try to blame 'toxic fans" but it really is a total shitshow.

Your opinion is your opinion and worth just as much as mine .. which is to say .. not much. I'm sure your TV series is much better.

I think if I had a billion dollars I could do better.

I wanted to like it, but not possible.

Someday I'd like to see someone drop the Sauron timeline and go back to Morgoth, Ungoliant etc...but I suppose it would cost another fortune for the rights to those pages.
