Is there anyone who can give me the + or - of getting a regular post office box or one of these or one of these Mailbox ect. type of places for private snail mail. I need to get some mail without it going home. Any Ideas? Thanks

Pros and Cons of a private mailbox at the post office

Personally, I love them. I have one at my local post office mail is delivered by 9:30 am and it's dirt cheap. I paid $40 for 6 months. The only con is having to travel to check your mail.

I have a PO Box in addition to home delivery, I think it's $26./year. I've never looked into the Mailbox Etc., I think they have a lobby kind of thing that is open past the UPS part so you can get your mail after 6pm.

If you need to receive anything by UPS or Fedex, the PO box won't work - you need a place like Mailboxes.

There are pro's and con's for both, here is my take on them: -

PO box, you often have to wait for one at your nearest PO, but they are cheap to rent and you will get your mail with minimum interference.

Some companies will not ship to PO boxes and this is there downfall, if you want to deal with a lot of companies that won't ship to them then go the Mialboxes R Us route.

PO box address is PO Box ######, your town, any zip

Mailboxes R Us give you a real street address, Mr greathands660, 123 Main Street, your town, any zip.

But they cost more than PO boxes, though more companies can and will ship to them as it is effectively your street address.

Unless you live in a really really really small town there are usually plenty of boxes available for rent at your local post office.

I've never run across a company that won't ship to a po box. I'm sure there are a couple out there.. mail order prescriptions and other thing that need to be signed for by someone over 21. Po Boxes are so common place now that if the majority of companies chose not to ship to those addresses they'd lose a fair amount of business.

I live in a really really small town with only 33659 (according to the 2,000 US Census) people, there is only one post office in the town, and there is at least a two week waiting list for a Post Office box, there are 4 Mailbox stores, (that I know of), in the same area.

FedEx will not deliver to PO Boxes, so if a company uses FedEx to ship its goods, it will not be delivered to your box.

Alot of smaller online store companies won't ship to a P.O. Box, no idea why not since they usually use USPS anyway.

Anyway, your best option is to use one of the Mailbox Express places, since they generally are alot harder to be kidnapped out of than the post office after say 5PM. Cheaper alternative is to get a friend of yours to allow you to use their address, though big hulking guy friend being the best idea since alot of guys are only sweet and nice until they get your address.
