Grace packed her bags preparing her trip from Oregon to the Mountains in Washington to live in her father's cabin. She was angry no furious at the sudden death it felt strange to her. One day he was joking with her and doing his famous magic tricks then the next day he was sayin his goodbyes on the phone telling her she was strong and possessed strength and power and she needed to control it for him and not become filled with anger. She promised him and a few hours later hed died just like that.

She packed the car with most of her things and shipped the rest to a postal office a few miles from the cabin in town. She had loved going to the cabin with her parents when she was younger it was quiet and relaxing and theyd go fishing doma campfire and had a sunroof so they could sleep under the stars. She remembered her father had weird symbols and books there which he assured them were for protection and gave them each special necklaces to have when he wasnt there. The house also had her fathers collection of shotguns on the wall for safety and sort of decoration.

She arrived a day later in then afternoon unloading her things and setting up her new home with her small satellite TV and a few appliances to give it a more homey feel. Her father had the place updated a bit with wiring for electricity, lighting ,internet and even central air and heat so she hadnt needed to do much but plug stuff in. After settling in she began searching the place feeling safe there of course but finding some of the books reading what seemed to be spells. She read one for strength and peace and felt somewhat stronger .

She decided shed do some laundry at the lake out back before the sun went down loving the beauty of the forest and privacy.

The Wolf sat watching the girl making her way to the lake. He had been there ever since she had arrived watching over her and had actually been there a long time before that. He had been a friend of her fathers and he had asked him to keep a watchful eye on his daughter when she made her way up here. She would go through changes while she was up here and she would need a friend and protector while she did.

There would be those who sought to use her and those who sought to destroy her. The first he was sure he could drive off. The latter may be more troublesome but he would see what he could do. Until then he would watch over his charge and see how she grew. Perhaps she might even be strong enough one day to sense his presence but he believed that would be a long time coming.

He sniffed the air and relaxed. Nothing was near and for now they were safe. He expected it to be so until news of her fathers death reached the right ears and that she was now following in his footsteps was known. This cabin was well shielded and protected as was part of the surrounding forest but she needed to perfect her shielding spells before she ventured into town for provisions. He may need to allow his other half to visit her if she failed to study on her own.

Grace felt something while she was washing her things. She looked around the site seeing nothing was there and set up some traps just in case not wanting animals breaking in or anything. She read a bit more from the book of spells feeling herself grow stronger. She saw a page witn special markings that read " The spell of the white witch". It immediately got her attention. "What the hell were you into dad?" She thought skimming over the pages.

She came across a spell im the book and saw a symbol next to it. It appears to be her name in another language. She began reading the spell off out loud and touched the symbol shouting as the picture burned her and she looked down and it was gone from the page. She gasped loooking frantically through the book but it was gone.

She shook her head. Maybe her dads death was getting to her. Unknowingly Grace had tapped into her powers the symbol appearing at the back of her neck as a quick flash of white light only a supernatural being could see quickly filled her house.

She suddenly felt drained deciding to put the books away before heading to bed. The next morning she removed her clothes from outside going to shower and get dressed. She needed to grab some thimg from in town amd headed out around noon.

She decided to grab breakfast in the diner noticing two guys watching her from the corner booth. She filled out an application there but felt a bit uneasy deciding to take her food to go and head to the grocery store then home feeling their eyes on her the entire time.

He had sat watching her and had seen her begin to read her fathers books. He could have told her of the dangers of a novice doing such a thing, but he had been asked to watch and protect not train so he had remained on the hill and observed. He had seen her mumble small passages and felt the magic gathering but nothing had happened as she never completed any spells but the gathering of energies was going to draw attention to this place even with the wards it had.

Suddenly he felt the beginnings of a vast spell and his snout came up and his sharp eyes focused on her. He couldn't make out what she was reading but by the energies it was focused totally on her. She completed it and the waves on energy crashed down upon her and he saw a bright flash of white throughout the house as he quickly closed his eyes. When he dared open them there was a bright glow on her neck that quickly softened then she staggered as if suddenly very tired. He was not surprised as that spell must have taken vast amounts of energy. She made her way to bed and he slunk down and closed his eyes and slumbered himself pondering this new development and what it meant for him.

The next day he watched as she made her way towards town. He sighed as he realized he would have to let his other half out. He had not changed in a long time but he had too now. As he got to the edge of the woods and near town he stopped and allowed the change to take place. The wolf left and Snow stood up. He had changed from how he remembered. Now he looked older and his appearance had Changed .He was surprised but he followed Grace into town and watched from across the street as she walked into the diner.

As she ordered his senses picked up two Magi in the diner with her. He looked but could not see them and he was going to go in when Grace came out holding a bag. He continued to cross the street and almost bumped into two men exiting the diner and heading after her. They gave him a disgusted look and quickly followed after her keeping about a block behind. He had no problems tracking them. They gave off such a stink of magic and were so focused on Grace he could walk two steps behind them and they would not notice him. If they made a move he would have to stop them of course but he hoped they would just tail her to see where she lived. If they were foolish enough to enter the woods they would not leave them alive. Grinning he continued to follow them discreetly.

Grace shopped around the store grabbing enougn groceries to last her a few weeks and some supplies to make her house seem more homey. She felt like she was bekng watched the entire time and kept looking back not seeing anyone. " Strange" she thought quickly packing her things into her car just in case she was being stalked. " Maybe im being paranoid" she said.

She drove quickly to her home loading her things inside and thought she heard a sound at the barrier. " Whos there?" She asked of course getting no answer. She sighed going into her home swearing she saw a flash of something white running through the forest following after two dark shadows.

He had followed them as they had entered the same stores as his charge, stalking her from side aisles as she shopped. He would have been impressed by their technique if he had not been worried for Grace. He saw her notice that something was wrong and the way she kept looking around was a good sign that she sensed the two men's presence, but she was still not strong enough to pinpoint their location with her magic. He was going to have to interfere and teach her a thing or two. He sighed, what had he gotten himself involved in now.

She finally took everything back to her car and started to head back to the woods. He was glad as he ran back to his changing spot and once again ripped off the confining clothes and hid them safely in their weather proof bag then changed back to his natural form and bounded after her. He loped after the car making better time than her as the road weaved through the trees, looping around and he headed straight. He hit the barrier and waited as she drove through. Sure enough two dark figures came speeding up the road behind her as she disappeared, running filled with magic. It was a novice spell that used the wind to speed the person along. Not useful in battle but for getting places quick very useful.

He watched as they slowed and observed Grace unpacking her things, then they turned to leave. Well now he knew their purpose he was sure they had only been sent to find out what the large surge of energy had been about. He would find some way to put whoever came next off the scent but these two could not be allowed to leave. As they turned and headed for the barrier he flowed after them.

He hit them before they knew what was happening. A well cast spell of silence and two swipes of his large paws and they had been hamstrung behind the knees. He flowed back into the woods moving around them raising a mist once out of range of his own spell and sending it to cover them. He smelled them but they had been so confident they had not brought any weapons. He rushed in again and swiped at their other legs crippling them fully now and then he silently crept up on them from behind. He walked right up and over the back of one and closed his powerful jaws on the back of his neck and bit deep. He was dead in seconds and his partner lying two feet from him didn't even know. Well he would as he jumped across and did the same thing to him. He hated the taste of human blood, give him a good rabbit or deer any day, but it had to be done. He changed forms again and bent down and picked both bodies up. Years of hard work in the woods had made it strong and the shared link with his wolf made them very strong. He carried them to a deep crevice he knew and threw them in. The scavengers would soon pick them clean and no one would find their bones down there. Now he just needed a reason to get close to Grace. Well he was covered in blood, maybe a little too much and faking a skull injury would be easy, although giving himself one would be better. He walked down to a secluded part of the lake and washed most of the blood off, then back to his lair where he got dressed in plain gear and grabbed a bag of human food. He always had dried and processed stuff on hand in case he couldn't hunt for awhile. Then he made his way towards the cabin. As he got there he grabbed a rock and cracked himself in the skull. He felt fresh blood ooze down and knew he had got it right. He rolled in the dirt and scuffed himself up a bit then began limping towards the door.

Grace had just finished putting her things away in the cabinets and fridge and putting the plastic bags up. She had settled in nicely having a feeling something unexpected was comin and unsure of what. She talked with her mother on the phone for a few minutes letting her know she was fine and safe in the cabin.
For some reason her mother seemed extra paranoid afer her fathers death. She just thought it was stress.

She pulled her hair up into ponytail and started to prepare dinner for herself she heard something outside. She had always had super hearing and sense all her life but people just said she was just sensitive to those things. She didnt know what it was but she was drawn to the door. She peaked out the window seeing a bleeding man limping toward her door. " Oh my god " Grace said running for some gauze and swinging the door open " Oh my gosh are you ok sir?" She said looking at him and helping him inside. He was bleeding from the scalp and she had to make sure he did not have a concussion or fall asleep " What happened?" She asked

Snow smiled at the concern in her voice. So like her father but far too trusting. If he had been an enemy she would be dead now. He was really going to have to teach her a thing or too or maybe even have to explain the whole situation to her. He sighed and allowed her to help him inside. She hadn't changed the place much, just added a few of her own touches to her father's rather spartan tastes and he was able to almost walk to the chair she led him to blind folded. He sat down before answering.

"I'm not sure. I go hiking up here a lot to gather herbs and things. There are lots nearby and the man who lives here doesn't mind so I sometimes do favors for him. When I saw two guys in black spying on his house I was curious so I went over to ask them what they were doing. They just attacked me. Well I know how to defend myself which I guess they weren't expecting and I got some good blows in until one of them hit me in the head with something. When I was able to see again they had run off and I came to the house to tell the old guy. Say where is he anyway and who are you?"

Grace sighed " Oh... Umm that was my dad this was his place... He umm... He passed away a few weeks ago" she said sadly. She grabbed a rag to wash the wound and an old bowl with fresh water. She began cleaning the blood from the wound and his face and looked down at him. " Did you get a good look at them maybe we can tell the town sheriff's its just me here and I wouldn't want them coming back and attacking me" she said.

She got a good look at the gash and winced it was pretty brutal and reached out and touched it gasping when it started healing instantly. She quickly retracted her hand shocked by what she saw and finished wiping it " How are you feeling?"she asked

Snow had felt the tingle of magic and the tell tale side effects of a healing spell but he had heard nothing. Looking at her a bit funny he could actually feel his skull getting better as he sat there. Just what was this girl and how had she done that. Even his mother who had been a powerful healer had not been able to perform something like that without saying a word. If she could do it without any training just what was she going to be capable of.

"I'm feeling great now, thanks. Whatever you did has really helped. I am really sorry about you dad though, he was really great to me. We used to talk a lot about natural remedies and spells and things. He didn't think I was weird or anything either. My mum was what you would call a Wiccan I guess and she taught me a few things. Your dad helped me find herbs when I first came up here and we soon became friends and had many chats."

He sighed and touched his head. "Wow that's amazing, I can hardly feel it any more. Oh yeah I am really sorry but I don't think I can really identify those two men. They were wearing sunglasses and hats and the same black suits. Really they looked pretty much the same, and then I was in a fight and got hit in the head. I am really sorry about that, but if you are worried I live around here and I can stick around and sort of keep a watchful eye out for awhile if you want. I have to gather some ingredients anyway and your dad gave me permission. I would hate to see you hurt after you just got here."

Grace nodded and said "Id like that... but I dont want you getting hurt again. Maybe you should sit a bit to make sure you dont have a concussion. Ill male you a sandwich and a drink" she said movingn
into the kitchen.

She paused hearing him say his mother was Wiccan. Did that mean her father?.... She looked around at the symbols inside of the room suddenly feeling dizzy. That would make her.... him...She stared at him " So are you umm... Are you a Wiccan as well? " She asked realizing she hadnt said her name " Oh im so sorry.Im Grace by the way Grace o Leary"

"Oh sorry I should have introduced myself as well. I am so used to living alone that I guess my manners have gone away," he smiled. "My name is Snow, pleased to meet you Grace. A sandwich would be really nice and some fresh water if you have any."

He settled himself more comfortably into the chair then began to talk. " I guess you can call me a Wiccan although I don't practice too much of it. My mum was the one who had the knack for it in our family. However I watched what she did and she taught me everything she knew so I know a lot of stuff and I still have all her things. Every now and then I perform the rights she insisted I do and create protection charms and renew the wards on the woods like she used to but I am not powerful enough to do the other things she was capable of."

Of course he left out the fact that he was a Lycan and could see magic, like the glowing tattoo on the back of her neck. He would have to get her to create a protection charm quickly to dampen that or more people would track her down. "If you are interested I could show you something that is really basic but helps you a lot."

Grace nodded as he said it " Id like that Snow...Do you know if my father was Wiccan? I had a feeling around his death that something was after him. I cam sense things like that but he insisted that things were fine and that my mother and I were safe. I didnt believe him of course and oit last conversation was as if he was saying goodbye. " she said finishing the sandwich. He used to utter a spell around me all the time something about shadows. Was in latin . I took it actually to understand what my father was saying" she smirked

" I think it was something dark after him Snow and I know my father told me vengeance wasn't the answer but I want to find what did this to him and protect my mother from it."

He had promised to try to keep her out of things until she was stronger so he decided a little white lie couldn't hurt her especially if it kept her here and searching in the right places.
"I don't think your Dad was, at least he never told me he was, but he knew things about it. Then again your dad knew stuff about just about everything. He was a genius."

Snow smiled at Grace. "I can understand you wanting to protect your family, believe me I can," he said with a lot of sincerity in his voice and eyes, "But if it was going to go after you or your mother I think it would have before you got here. I think it is this place they are after so I think you can stop worrying about your mother. As for this place, well your dad did get my mum to put a few things up and I maintained them over the years but maybe..." he said looking at her.

Snow sighed. "Ok Grace I am going to see if you are maybe a Wiccan. We are going to make a simple defensive charm. Well you are and I am going to tell you how. First you just need some of your hair, A few strands will do. Now I just need some stuff from your dads craft drawer."

Ten minutes later under his directions, Grace had made a copper wire star of David and attached it to a circle of copper. Each of these had strands of her hair wrapped through them. Finally he got her to attach a simple leather cord and put it on. He handed her a small piece of paper with a relatively easy self protection spell on it. "Wrap your hands around the charm and repeat the words, but believe in them Grace," he told her. He sat back and waited to see what would happen.

Grace listened to him walking over with his things handing him a fresh glass of water and a hearty sandwich thinking he would need his strength. She smiled as he said her dad was a genius. "My dad was really into this stuff huh? he used to insist my mother and i wear these necklaces and used to chant things around the house all the time. I used to think he was a bit crazy but now.. I just cant believe these things were real." she sat across from him at the counter.

She fiddled with her necklace as he said he wanted to see if she was wiccan. She stared up at him wide eyed but nodded. They began making a charm very similar to sometthing her father had.

She followed his directions chanting the spell over and over feeling the charm get warm between her hands. " Is it working Snow?" she asked before finishing the spell.

Snow watched as the protection charm started to glow and glow as more magic was fed into it as Grace continued to chant. He was amazed at the amount of energy pouring in and was surprised the small charm was holding up. As she finished there was another flash of light he had to close his eyes for and then it became just another small copper charm that gave off a small glow only if he concentrated and looked for it.

"My gosh Grace you are a natural. That was probably one of the most powerful protection charms I have seen made in my lifetime and my mother was pretty strong. You should put that on now, it should keep you safe and if you wish to learn more it will keep your magic from being sensed by other people, and believe me with your levels as soon as you try anything remotely powerful people will feel it without that," he laughed.

"Don't worry about it though, if you want me to teach you I will not teach you anything you can't handle. As for your father I don't know how much he knew about this sort of thing, I now he had a lot of books on the subject and yes he has a lot of the symbols around and the sorts of things to make them but in all the time I visited him I never saw him perform anything above minor healing and protection spells, so I don't know if he was a Wiccan or not. Anyone can really do them."

Grace smiled happy it worked and slid the charm on and looked at him " Maybe we should make you one too Snow after all you did teach me and i wouldn't want you getting hurt again" she said looking at him

She sighed " I think i should learn more if your willing to teach me Snow. Your welcome to crash on the couch bed if you like i wouldn't want you travelling too far those two men may come back and if they do the house is protected and i have a shotgun over my bed." she said concern in her voice.

"Okay I can stay for a few days I guess," Snow answered after a briefly thinking about it. "I guess I can teach you a little about what I know in exchange for crashing here for a few days and seeing if they come back or not. Of course it is just for a few days, then I have to get back home. I have a garden to maintain and a home to keep clean, but don't worry I am often in the woods so I will come by at least twice a week. You won't get rid of me that easily," he chuckled.

"Besides if you are any good I will have to come back and keep training you won't I?" He smiled at her and then rolled up his sleeve. There on his bicep was a large Star of David with intricate writing around the edges. To him it gave off a faint glow, but he wanted to see if she saw anything strange about it. "This is my protection amulet Grace. I had this done when I was eight years old. It was done by a friend of my mothers and I recharge it at least once a week. Tell me what you see when you look at it."

Grace nodded agreeing to his terms. She had enough foood to feed the both of them for a few days and she wouldnt mind the company having just moved here and no neighbors next door to gossip or chat with.

She watched as he rolled up his sleeve and saw a large symbol burned into his skin. It had healed and had a reddish/pink tint to it and it seemed to be glowing. He asked her what she saw when she looked at it." Its glowing Snow" she said looking at him. she wondered what he meant by recharging it but figured he'd explain.

Snow smiled happily. "Ahh you can see the glow then, that's good. The glow means there is active magic in something. Don't mistake the amount of glow with the amount of energy inside the object though. If you look at your amulet you will see a faint glow, but believe me there is a lot of magic in there. Some items you will see, will have a large glow and they will have some magic but that just means the person who created them was not able to seal them."

He then showed her his arm closer and explained the writing. "As you can see the star is surrounded by this writing and it enhances any magic cast upon it. My mother insisted that I get it put on me so I would be protected at all times. She knew we would be targeted because of who she was and she wanted me protected from their sight. When I was old enough she explained it's purpose and taught me how to recharge it. I have to recite the same words you did to activate your charm with a few changes. It keeps me safe for about a month or so before I have to recharge it again. Yours is different though, it will never need recharging as it will take a little bit of your energy every day to keep you constantly protected from detection and suppress your magical aura when casting spells."

"As for me visiting you later on, don't think I will be coming empty handed. As I have said these woods have become my home. If you like wild game and food then I am your man. I know where all the wild fruits and vegetables are in these woods and how to capture all the wild animals. I can also get you anything from town you need so you don't have to risk yourself just now."

Grace looked up at him and smiled " Id appreciate the hunting but im not much of one. Any town errands ill run ok? I wouldn't want you hurt because of me Snow or getting hurt at all for that matter. Maybe I can make yours a permanent seal as well I mean it is burned on yoir skin. Maybe youll just have to swallow the items since the symbol is on you.

She looked at tje spell again and replicated the potion for him to drink. She gave him the bottle and grabbed his hand chanting the spell hoping itd work.

Snow glanced down at her head and chuckled a little. She had only done one little spell and already she thought she could improve on a spell like this. He knew nothing would come of it and the contents would not harm him so he would amuse her. He drank the potion and watched as she continued to chant. Then his arm started to itch as his brand started to move. The glow got brighter and some of the words changed before his eyes. The star remained the same but it seemed better aligned to his now grown up body and more defined as well as the circle. The glow intensified and again he had to avert his eyes until it snapped off and he looked down.

His brand looked almost brand new but fully healed. It suited his body better and the words had changed slightly probably altering the spell slightly. He would have to study his mothers or her fathers books to find out how much though. Strangely though he felt better. The glow was about the same but where hers was a rich white his was a midnight blue.

"Thanks Grace that looks much better and you have changed it. I think you have attuned it to me somehow. Look the glow has changed, it is my colour now. Before it was my mothers. You two have a very similar colour. Hers was white too. Must have something to do with your healing properties, huh."

Grace looked at marking which had a blue glow to it now still shocked she had been able to do that. " Does this mean im a wiccan Snow?" She asked curiously . She walked over looking at the marking closely seekng it was completely healed and had moved up a bit more resting on his bicep.

She ran her fingers over it and then over where thw mark was before and here were no indication that it was there. " I cant believe I did that" she gasped still stunned by all of this.

Snow looked at her and decided to tell her a part of the truth. "Grace you are indeed a Wiccan and that right now proves it. It also proves something else. You are really strong, and I mean really strong. My mother was one of the strongest healers in the Wiccan community Grace and she couldn't have mended my skull like you did. You did that without chanting or saying a word, you just put your hands on it. I have never even heard of someone doing that. Now this," he said pointing at his brand. "This is another persons spell. Not only did you change it but you attuned it to me. An outside force normally can't do that it requires the person who it is on to do it. I am not telling this to scare you Grace believe me. These are your first two proper spells, I am afraid to guess how much protection your own Amulet has but always wear it and never take it off. There are people out there that try to exploit people with power. That was my mother moved here, and perhaps your father but he never said. These woods dampen the magical flow that tries to escape and over the years many Wiccans have added their own protection spells to that effect as well. With your charm you should be safe from detection. Hey maybe you might even get a protector. Every now and again the woods will send one. You will probably never even see it but it will be there watching over you."

Grace paled taking it all in. Not only was she wiccan she was powerful, even more powerful than one of the strongest healers. She didn't think hed felt her heal his skull but apparently he did and the spell she did was her father's and she tweeked it slightly and it had worked. She looked at him wondering just what the hell would come after her if they found out she exsisted . The wood was protected for a reason but she wasnt sure what. " What do you meam the woods will send a protector Snow? Is there watch on the wood or does a magic council send one ?" She said curious but nervous about how things worked
