Protecting the White Witch

He could see she was nervous and he guessed he shouldn't have said anything about that last bit, but he hadn't wanted her to be scared if she had caught sight of him in his natural form following her around. After all he knew Humans tended to get scared when he approached them when he was like that.

"No it is nothing like that. It is just sometimes a creature will appear out of the woods and appear to follow you around. It is nothing to be scared of though. One came when my mother and I first arrived. It followed us for awhile until we got used to the way things were around here and got back on our feet. We used to leave little offerings to it and we never saw it actually eat them, but they did disappear. One day it simply did not appear again and we assumed we had been accepted into the woods community. We know it is there to protect though because once one of those evil people I told you about came for my mother in the night. We didn't know about it until the next day when we found his body or what was left of it outside our home. We thanked the protector loudly even though we did not see him. It is just the woods way I guess."

Snow knew he was probably digging a large hole for himself but what was he supposed to say. Oh your dad asked me to protect and train you because he knew you would come here and that you would become a wicked powerful Wiccan. Oh and don't worry about anyone getting to you because I am not really a human I am a five foot tall wolf pretending to be one.
If she didn't run screaming at that she would probably get that shotgun and try to kill him.

Grace nodded listening to him speak calming herself down a bit as he explained things. She was glad the protector would keep them safe and the evil away from her new home. She was afraid og whatever following her but if it kept her safr she wouldn't mind.

Snow looked like he had a brief thought of something maybe regret but it quickly passed. "Does it still protect you?" She asked looking at him.

He shook his head. "No I am able to protect myself now and I haven't been able to find it to say thank you but I think it knows. Now I have a chance to repay part of my debt sort of although I don't really think of it that way. I will keep you safe and teach you the basics and while you learn perhaps I might learn a few things from you," he smiled at her.

"Besides we don't have to remain in the cabin all the time. I would love to show you around the woods sometimes too. I know a few secret places I can show you."

Grace nodded liking that idea she wouldn't mind being outside or the cabin. She could not imagine herself couped up inside of here half the time although it was very cozy and relaxing. She smiled at Snow as he said hed protect her the guy was sweet and she somehow got a vision of him doing so before he got here thinking thats how he got hurt but hed said it was a mugging.

Grace looked at him " Id love to snow thisnis one of the most beautiful and large woods ive seen . Ive nevere really gotten a chance to get to explore all of it when I used to come here. My dad kind of restricted us to townnand the cabin and that's it. It was like he was cautious of something.

Snow could guess what. Graces powers could have broken free at any time. Adolescence was a popular time and it was amazing that they had actually remained dormant this long. Still he thought that now unlocked they would be hungry to explore and it would be best to channel that energy into learning and exploring until Grace learned how to fully control her powers. He had seen many new born Wiccans loose control and it had not been pretty and they did not have a thousandth the strength of Grace.

"Well the woods can be dangerous but I know their ways. I know the places to avoid and the best times to travel to miss some of those dangers. So what do you say, you up for a quick walk? Their is a little pool just up over the ridge that is rather beautiful at sunset. Your dad never saw it because he only ever washed at the main pool and I never could convince him to come with me, but what about you?"

Grace sat and thought for a moment about exploring the woods. She knew her dad had been hesitant about it before telling her to stay only at the cabin if hed run into town and put salt at the doors.

She had snuck off before when she was younger and found a stream beneath the trees. Maybe there was more out there" Sure Snow I guess that's fine. I mean ill e living here now so I might as well explore the neighborhood right?" she said smiling.

Snow smiled at Grace's response. "Well then there is no time like right now. If we leave soon, we can get there in about half an hour and the sun will be going down in about an hour so you can see it in all it's glory and then at night as well."

He got up and started to head for the wardrobe where the hiking equipment used to be kept and then realised she may have changed it. "Oh your dad used to keep a few things in the wardrobe over there. Canteens, towels, small bags and things. Have you moved them yet?"

Grace shook her head and said" I haven't touched anything of my dads yet Snow it all should be there still" she said walking over to the door to grab her sneakers. She grabbed some water bottles for them as well.

She was a bit afraid but she knew they were protected from the charms.

Snow grabbed a small bag and threw a rug and a couple of towels in as well as some of the protein bars. He walked over to the door and watched as Grace got ready. Once she was he led her out the door and towards the main pool. Just before they reached it he turned onto what looked like a small game trail and led her up towards a small ridge. They had to climb a little, but it was easy as there were a lot of hand holds on jutting rocks.

Once they reached the top he led her down another trail that led through some thick undergrowth until it came out onto a beautiful little pool surrounded by tall trees and dense undergrowth. A small stream led off towards the main pool and a small waterfall fed it. It cascaded over several natural rocks before falling about six feet into the pool. It was not a thundering thing as it was only slow moving water and it gave the glade a pleasant background noise.

Snow looked up and noted the suns position. "About twenty minutes to sunset then you will see something truly spectacular." He led her to the perfect spot to view it. He often came here in his true form to view it. They were near the exit stream looking back at the small rock wall forming the waterfall with all the trees and undergrowth surrounding them. He offered her a protein bar as he laid out the rug and sat down.

Grace smiled taking the protein bar thankfully leaning in next to snow relaxing. She stared at the view from where they were in awe it was absolutely breathtaking. " Wow snow this is gorgeous" she said softly walking over to a few flowers she spotted and bending down touching it.

"Ive never been this far Snow its spectacular out here" She smiled

Snow smiled as he watched her take it all in. As it got closer to sunset he watched the the colors changing and then called her back. "You will want to watch this next bit from here."

Finally the sun sank to just the right position and the glade lit up. The small cliff face lit up in reds and browns as the sun hit it and the water turned to molten fire as it cascaded down. The pool became a black pit and the contrast was stunning as the trees around the glade turned to golden giants throwing their shadows across the place like silent guardians, while the shrubbery got a ethereal glow about it.

The effect only lasted a couple of minutes before the sun sank further and it was lost, but then the sky lit up in purples and red's and oranges of the sunset and again it was magnificent to lean back and watch the changing colors as the waterfall gave a peaceful feeling to it all.

Grace grinned watching the view in awe it was incredible. She looked around at the trees and and waterfall amazed by the colors and watched the sun as it set in the sky.

She leaned back against the blanket and against snows shoulder smiling" How did you discover this?" She wondered impressed by the view. 'He must visit it everyday.' She thought.

"As I said, I have lived here a while and explored this place a lot. You would be amazed at what these woods are hiding. There are even more magical places than this, but some of them you can only get to at certain times of the year or times of the day.:

Snow leaned against her and decided this form did have it's advantages but he wondered what she would feel like cuddled up on his true form.

Grace smiled leaning against him more and said" I hope you show me Snow id really like it" she said glancing over at him.

She yawned sleepily against him getting comfortable.

Snow looked at her and smiled. No wonder her father had been so protective of her. She was so beautiful and as she was getting tired he could see the worry lines leave her face and the beauty of her really shone through. He shook his head and knew he shouldn't be having these thoughts. If she knew what he was she would probably run a mile and lock her doors.

Still looking at her he couldn't help thinking what if. He had never been with a female. He was too much of a freak or so the others almost like him had said. He had found them just out of town one day several years ago but had been surprised at how small they had been. He had walked over to them to warn them to stay out of the woods and had been surprised when they had turned on him and warned him off. He had laughed and batted the two males away with ease, after all they had been but three foot high and he was five feet and heavily muscled. They female had been about to attack but a glare had stopped her. They had changed back into human form but he had remained in his natural form. They had called him a freak and run off.

The wolves in the woods had rejected him too. They could smell the human taint on him and he was way too large too blend in with them no matter how hard he tried. Finally he had stopped trying and had kept to himself. Now he had made a friend but he knew it would not last. Still he would pretend for as long as he could.

Snow realized that Grace had fallen asleep and that even though the night was reasonably warm now she would not survive the night dressed as she was. He was not strong enough to carry her home in this puny form but in his natural form it would be easy. He packed up everything then put the bag near his head then crouched down next to Grace. He picked her up and draped her across his back with her feet near his and her arms wrapped around his neck with her head on his shoulder. Then he changed back.

Where a puny human had been crouched now stood a five foot tall white wolf with a female sleeping on it's back. Snow carefully bent his neck and picked up the backpack by a strap in his mouth and began the trek back to the house.

Grace had stretched and yawned waking up around three in the morning and gasped realizing she had been back in her cabin. The last thing she remembered was falling asleep against snows chest comfortably and dreaming strangely about wolf's and other mystical creatures.

She had never had thoughts or dreams about any of those things until she had came to the forest and she wouldn't have believed in any of it until she saw a large white wolf draped at the foot of her bed. She stared silently for a second scared out of her wits amd not wanting to distirb the thing umsire of its intentions for her and secondly she was in shock pf how beautiful the creature had been dangerous but gentle.

She carefully slid out of bed and into the hallway looking for snow in the living room and the guest room and not seeing him. She peaked in the bedroom again and saw the beast awake then she noticed the protection mark on his chest and her eyes widened " Oh my god... No way"

Snow wondered what she was looking at and yelling about then he looked down and saw the glowing protection mark. Oh hell he had forgotten about that, as a Wiccan she would be able to see the glow from his mark. Well so much for his plan to stay in disguise in his true form when he wanted a break and still keep an eye on her. Still here was another way to see just how powerful she was. If she was growing into her powers then maybe this trick could work.

He concentrated on her and sent out a small but powerful thought at her. "Hi Grace. Yeah it's me, Snow. Guess you can see where I really got my name from. This is what I really look like, If you want to go running or screaming now I understand, or if you just want to kick me out I will go either way. Just say the word. As the Genies say, "Your wish is my command Master," he chuckled but it came out like a coughing sound.

Grace admitted she considered the thougbt but them she realized it was just that a thought his lips had not moved and yet her stared at her calmly. She shook her head still unable to understand it bit moving closer to touch him. She hadnt believed what she saw.

" How snow? When did you-?...Were you born like this ? She had so many questions. She moved forward stroking his fur gently not caring about her undress at the moment. " Does it hurt when you shift?" She realized after a moment that he had spoken without talking.

Snow loved the way her hand felt in his fur and he actually leaned into her slightly until he felt her starting to be knocked back by his weight.

"Yes Grace I was born this way. This how I really am, that other form is one I use around humans so I don't make them nervous but that is also me. As for it hurting, no it doesn't. I can change between my forms in seconds and it has never hurt. Also I can answer your next question, yes my clothes change with me. I think my fur becomes clothes and whatever I am wearing becomes my fur, so you will not have to see me naked," he chuckled.

"As for talking like this, only certain people can, like other people like me and high powered Wiccans. I took a chance and it turns out you are powerful enough to hear me, so I will be able to watch over you in both my forms." He looked at her and questioned her as sheepishly as a big wolf could. "Do you really not mind that I look like this?"

Grace shook her head as taking it all in still stroking the large wolfs fur and listening. it was strange that he was talking to her this way and he mentioned watching over her she asked in his head " Are you my protector?" She asked cuiriously and then answered his question bending down smiling "No i dont mind it snow...I mean your way larger than any wolf ive ever seen but it doesnt bother me at all."

Snow grinned but on a wolf it looked funny. His big maw opened and his tongue lopped out on his left side while his lips pulled back half exposing his fangs. It did not look like a snarl and the way he leaned into her again as her fingers found a sensitive spot showed her he was in no way angry with her.

"Yes Grace I am your protector and I will always be here for you. I have lived in these woods most of my life and know their ways. I can teach you the basics of the Wiccan craft and by that time I think you will be ready to tackle the books that both your father and my mother have left behind. However what I told you about people wanting to use you is true. Both the good and the bad side of the craft will be after you so the first steps should be in the field of control, shielding, defense and camouflage. Luckily I am an expert in all of them. We will tackle offense once you have mastered them."

Grace chuckled at the large wolfish grin on Snows face. She nodded understanding everything he said and continued to stroke his fur liking the feel of it between her fingers.

she tilted her head slightly and said " will i learn how to change forms like you do Snow or is it just power cloaking and force field? will i be able to transport and move quickly?"

Snow shook his head at her. "No Grace you are not like me. I am what is called a Lycan, although I am a strange one. I am not really human you see, so that is why I can change forms. I have heard of some Wiccans that have learned to do something similar to what we do but it is not the same. As for the other stuff well as I said we will cover the basics first and you shouldn't rush things believe me. You can really be hurt and hurt other people and things with this magic. In fact at your level Grace you could kill. So learn control first then the fun stuff. Believe me there is fun stuff. I will have you running beside me faster than you dreamed, but if you don't know how to protect yourself from the wind and branches you can't do it. See basics help."

Grace nodded understanding. She supposed it would be good for her to protect and shield her powers she didnt want to kill anyone. "Ok Snow I understand. I want to learn things right..I dont want to hurt anyone Snow"

Snow gently licks her free hand then realizing what he has done quickly apologizes. "Sorry Grace I guess I forgot myself there for a second," he hung his head in shame. "Don't worry though. With the way you picked up the charm spell I am sure you will master the basics in no time," he continued.
