Puppy Love

I can't resist when it comes to dogs either. If I had my way, I'd bring all the ones from the pet shop home with me.

Awwww CD.
I wouldn't kill ya if ya brought home a dog, ya big hearted softie you! Hehe.
(But you'd have to promise not to kill me if I brought home a cat, LOL.)

Two of our cats were from my Grandma's. Barn cats.
The next was also a barn cat from Grandma's. (We no longer have that one; she got hit by a car.)
Then one came from the Humane Society.
The next came from our flower bed. His momma cat abandoned him. :( (We don't have him any more; had to put him to sleep.)
The last two also came from our flower bed. :D
They were 8 days old, and their momma cat got hit by a car. So we brought them in and bottle fed them.
Keeping them brought our grand total to 6, but we kept them anyways, LOL.
(We're currently down to five felines.)

Add that to the pampered Poodle. :)

Oh, and add the Lab/Pit Bull mix... (He was a stray..)

And the eight turtles...

And the Canadian goose...

Don't feel bad CD, LOL. :p

I would just like to take pride in my amazing town for a second and announce that the Boulder SPCA imports pets from other shelters in surrounding towns because so many get adopted here.
Big WHOOP for the happy doggies and kitties and their new mommies and daddies.
I serious can't say how happy I was when I found that out. :D There is no such thing as a stray around here, they all get adopted (I say as our lil' orphan from the streets hops up and curls up next to me).

CD, I understand completely. My last dog chose me. I was at a friend's house and someone came by with the last 2 of a litter of puppies she had found. I wouldn't even touch them. They were so damned cute, but I didn't want a dog and I knew if I touched them I'd be a goner.

Everone else over there was playing with these itty-bitty lil puppies (that were really too young to be weaned) and one of the lil things decided she didn't want to play. She stumbled in her clumsy little puppy way over to where I was sitting cross-legged on the floor, climbed into my lap, and promptly went to sleep. She owned me.

I didn't want a dog, but I wouldn't give up the 6 years I had with her before cancer claimed her for anything in this world.

Now I'm getting teary eyed. My only dog I got when I was 3 and she lived to be 15. My whole life up to that day when I was 18 I had my dog, Hillary, she was a Golden Retriever. We used to go everywhere together, she followed me everywhere when I rode my bike.

I carried her into the Vet's office on that last day and cried my eyes out for the rest of the night. So I totally know what you mean when you say you wouldn't trade any time at all. In a way it was a little easier for me I suspect because I knew she had a good life and 15 is a respectable age. I think it would have been harder if she had gone young. :rose:

15 is an amazing age for a big dog! I've got three german shepherds (oversize lap dogs) and 2 were rescues. We've also got 3 beagles. The BF found the last dog beside the interstate highway starving, eating garbage. He drove on at first but then he turned around and went back.
I admit - I was exasperated because we already had too many animals - but it was fate. I truly believe she'll save us from a burning building one day.

This dog is special because he was waiting for you. Go get him from the shelter CD.... you'll always regret it if you don't.

Why do I do this to myself?

This morning as I was walking thru my jobsite I came across a stray dog. He was a cute, playful and seemed to be thrilled to see me. One little scrach behind the ears and he was following me around for the rest of the morning. No tags, no real collar, just an old flea collar. He looked like some kind of spaniel, lab mix. He followed me around the site for a while but kept running out into traffic.

I couldn't figure where he came from because we are doing utility work in the middle of a heavily commercialized are with no houses/appartments near by. I decided he must have gotten away from somebody.

When it became obvious that sooner or later he was going to be hit by a car, I rounded up some rope and started taking him around with me. I called the city animal control office to pick him up but they never showed up.

So at 11:00 when they opened I took him down to the pound. The 2 guys I left him with seemed very nice and the place was clean so I figured he would be in good hands.

But I still had a tear in my eye as I walked back to my car.

They said that if on one claims him after 5 days then he goes up for general adoption and that as the one who brought him in I could put a hold on him for first chance at adoption. I did.

My wife is gonna kill me if I bring home a dog. How do I get myself into these situations. :(

I do so love your heart.

I have to wait 5 days to see if his real owner shows up. After that he goes up for adoption, then... maybe....

one day, we decided to get a puppy from petsmart (they were showcasing dogs that were going to be put down in hopes people would feel bad enough to take them home)

so, we took Rikki Tikki Tavi home with us. a very sick little boxer puppy. i had just had a baby... what were we thinking? in any case, i really resented her because she was so sick and needy. we had a love hate relationship.

i was also raising over 20 angora bunnies. (god i miss them)

*long story, bear with me*

Rikki was about 2yrs old... barely had teeth in her head because of her illness as a puppy.
i was busy in the house doing something and i heard her bark so i went to the back door to see what was up and there were two loose dogs tearing into the bunny hutches. i was so upset, heart in my throat. so, i took a broom and was chasing out the door to get the dogs away from my rabbits. they turned on me and started coming after me.
Rikki, jumped through the screen door and cornered the loose dogs, keeping them away from me. My hero. god i fell in love with her that day. after all the trouble i thought she was, she was my champion. i miss her terribly now.

btw, those loose dogs killed my two champion bunnies. i was taken to court because my fence was open. the dogs were not put down. i wouldnt want that... just wished that their owners had taken care to keep them where they needed to be

i am a dog person and id never change that.

vella... that's beautiful... so sorry about your bunnies. See? dogs happen for a reason.

Neighbor's loose dogs mauled my brother's smaller dog so bad he had to be put to sleep. Neighbors paid the vet bill but the dogs still run loose...

CD if you were to lay it on thick about the dog coming close to being hit time and time again, then tell her you rescued him by taking him to the pound, then make sure the part about leaving him there and the thought of your childhood pet creaping into your thoughts as you left. She would be a gonner, knowing you cared that much about a stray that you would do anything to give it a real life, how could she say no?

Proud of you man!
