I would argue that the Civil Rights protests both polarized and changed things and so have many other protests. And how long precisely are you as a victim supposed to simply ignore an issue?

Lets say the similar scenario Query. There are a couple of good performances, since none of us know anybody on the official nomination crew lets say the general public agrees that Denzel, Jamie Foxx and Morgan Freeman all put out excellent performances and again NONE get the nod. Since this award is (within the industry) a measure of your talent how long does it make sense to know that people think you deserve something that you aren't getting. I'm sure there is a certain amount of lost revenue that goes with that. It's not as if movies don't advertise " Starring three time golden globe nominated, two time winner blah blah blah." So in addition to a loss of praise you're quite possibly losing money.

It's easy to say you shouldn't protest when you're winning. Again, fuck the awards. I think there are MUCH bigger issues with Hollywood.

This was actually specifially about Actors. Selma as I understand was nominated for best picture. This may be a lot of bitching about nothing, as I've stated serveral times I'm only so interested in the award show vs the state of the industry as a whole.

Yes, and deservedly so. It also won Best Supporting Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay.

One of the many malcontents over yesterday's Oscars is that, if a particular movie is nominated for Best Picture, then it doesn't make sense for at least most of the principal components that made it a qualifier for Best Picture to not also be nominated along with it — Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor and possible Best Supporting Roles, Writing, etc. — as is the usual standard for all other Best Picture noms.

I'm happy for the Best Song nab, but c'mon. Ava DuVernay and David Oyelowo should've been nominated for Director and Actor at the very least.

I did not say that I think there is no white skill in Hollywood. I will not admit that I believe Oscars should be awarded on basis of race because I believe that, I don't believe anybody is entitled to a certain number of oscars. I don't really care that all kids get a trophy. That's just Republican bullshit. I was there in Little LEague when all kids got a trophy. Mine is about three inches tall and made of plastic. Third place is a foot tall and metal, second is a foot and a half tall and first place is like two goddamn feet. Believe me we know who fucking won. The rest of us just got to have some plastic to put up on the mantle instead of a t-shirt we'd wear out.

I think it's obvious that if you get nominated for Best Picture you must have had the best in SOMETHING or was Selma playing Moneyball? Somehow via statistics they manage to get a team that has nobody of any real talent on it but when you add up all the no talent it somehow manages to beat super stars?
