Rand Paul's Patriot Act Filibuster

The Freedom Act didn't pass. Not that the media got it straight but the Freedom Act (which largely fixed the one thing about the PAtriot Act that pissed most people off) was the proper name of the extension.

So for the moment those three parts of the Patriot Act are gone. But they reconvein on Wednesday I didn't read these online I was flipping channels but Fox, CNN and MSNBC polls all show between 55% (MSNBC) and 70% (Fox) of Americans want the Patriot Act or something similar.

Well, there you go. Thank you, Sean. You saved me a lot of reading. :D

I would also like to note that the PATRIOT act was a PATRIOTS duty to SUPPORT because if you can't get behind our troops feel freed to stand in front of them!!!

Until 20JAN2009.....then it was evil NSA over reaching with Obamacameras in everyone's bedroom.

Okay. . .I've been watching CNN, Fox and MSNBC between work today and I need someone to explain to me what the fuck happened. All three stations agree that Republicans think Rand Paul is the bad guy for filibustering the freedom act/Patriot Act. They also think Obama is a bad person for keeping the Patriot Act around as long as he did.

When the fuck is he going to learn that nothing he can ever do will please them and he should instead take every single opportunity to piss them off as much as humanly possible?

LMFAO!!

And he knows it....he also knows he can only push so far before some "patriot" takes it upon themselves to water the tree of libertah!! to free us of the evils of communist kenyan ninjas!!

Exactly! He for far too long has acted like he's dealing with sane rational people. People that may perhaps negotiate with him, see logic when faced with it, know science when it is proven to them.

Now Paul wants redacted information from the 9/11 Report released.

Flanked by members of Congress and the families of 9/11 victims, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul on Tuesday introduced legislation that would force 28 redacted pages of the 9/11 Commission report to be made public. He was building on a promise he made on the campaign trail, and a cause that had been furthered by New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Oregon Senator Ron Wyden, both Democrats.

"The survivors, civilian heroes, and victims of 9/11 attacks–some of whom are here today–deserve the full truth," Paul said. "Fifteen of the 19 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. While their nationality alone does not constitute any wrongdoing by the Saudi government, information that has been revealed over the years has raised questions about their support."

I'm telling you, this guy is in danger of winning my vote. Heh. The question is, will he make it out of the primary.

No he won't.

He's in danger of getting my vote too but I'm not sure THIS is a good idea. If for whatever reason any of that redacted information says Bush is anything but squeaky clean we're talking nation wide riots and not these pussy ass riots we've been having, I'm talking cities that don't recover on the cusp of civil war level riots.

Some shit is best left buried simply because the risk reward ratio ain't where you want it.

I had a friend who said the Patriot Act was intended to be benevolent, and felt it was used that way under Bush, but was now being abused, which is why they are now against it.

I didn't even want to get into that mess of hypocrisy . . . but I did say: "never pass a bill that you'd be afraid of your opponent using".

That's a valid point. But I think the majority of the left already believes Bush flubbed the evidence leading up to 9/11. I don't see them rioting against a man who has no power any more. And I doubt conservatives will be rioting . . . they'll wait for the Fox News version of the story.

Although, everyone could get pissed about the cover-up by Congress, if there is one.

First Rand is beating around the bush (heh) a bit but it's not difficult to see where he's leading the horse when his statements basically go, most of the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. The ambassador from Saudi Arabia at the time, Prince Bandar is also known as Bandar Bush because of the close relationship between the Bushes and the Saudi royal family.

The Fox News version of the story is simple. Obama and his cronies altered the data to make Bush and Conservatives look bad. You think it's a coincidence that the traitor Rand Paul and the socialist Communist Kenyan Muslim here to destroy America demonized a man who didn't do anything but try to defend America.

Bottom line information is redacted for a reason and once you let it out you not only can't put it back you can't necessarily predict how people will react to it.

I'll check later, does anybody know off hand though if the Freedom Act passed at sometime this week?

The Senate passed the bill--previously passed by the House--Tuesday.

Obama signed it into law that night.

See articles cited in above posts.
