Random DMs

I simply ignore these. They're fishing for a response - any response, as a basis to suck you into... whatever. A "ping" in computer parlance. I don't give them the pleasure.

Our landline gets two or three calls a day that we ignore. I've seached 'Who called me' and most are either silent or trying to sell insulation, cheap internet or inflatable sex toys.

I get hardly any since I changed my profile not to say I'm female.

Occasionally I get one from what seems to be a real person.

Most calls I get my iPhone tags as “Probable spam” it’s kinda endemic over here.

I was thinking I don't get many on my phone, but I remembered I clicked a setting to auto block calls from likely spam. It's nice, I recommend it. Although I did miss a real call once because of it. It does allow them to leave voice mail.

My landline (and yes we still have one, remember I'm old) gets maybe a half dozen spam calls a day, almost all from random towns in state. I let them ring through and they never leave a message.

Hello, how are you doing?

Hi Stephen, nice to meet you. I’m doing great, thank you for asking.
And yes, my profile picture is me. 😊
Yours looks like you’ve got a kind and calm presence.
What have you been up to today?

This has to be spam, right? No previous posts, basic profile, AI sounding posts…

The latter could be handy for the boat. Late at night, too much water in the bilge, and you can't see to start the engine. You could pop a torch in her wide open mouth so you've got light, then later, turn it around and you'd have an oddly coloured beacon

If it says scam likely on a phone call, straight to voicemail. If I get texts from unknown people with shit like, "Why is your number in my phone?" "How have you been? Can we chat?" "Hey, we have an exciting new investment..." delete and report.
On iphone go to the Apps/Phone app >Screen unknown callers = Ask reason for calling

I got one not too long ago; I still haven't decided if It's. AI, a troll, or both:

if anyone is actually interested in working on this story let me know and I'll send you the contact link. 😆
Howdy? That's an automatic nope, read no further.

That's an option too, but the 'ask reason' is automated and prompts the caller to say something, which I can hear. On a couple of occasions it's been a legit call and I can then pick up.
Mostly I like that you keep creeps out of your head but.... fortunately it's very rare and they're probably trying to sell something
