Reading Books For Pleasure

*sigh*

I've got so many good books waiting for me to devour them and love them. I'm just working so much I don't have enough time.

*sigh*

Usually I read six to eight books a month. This month it was only four. ONLY four AND I had seven days on vacation!!!

WTF?

*grr*

*waves hand wildly* I'll read 'em for you! I'd love to have more books than I can read. Someday, man. Someday.

What series is this Frost from and what kind of character is he? The name itself intrigues me. May be something I should check out.

It's a series (the Merry Gentry series) by Laurell K. Hamilton. Mainly it's sex scenes, LOL because the main character must get pregnant to be queen of the fairies. If she doesn't her evil cousin will become king and he will kill her.

So she HAS to have sex like constantly with men who are magical. Whoever gets her pregnant will become her king.

She ends up doing all sorts of magical shit that helps restore the faerie to their old power that has been corrupted by her Aunt the current queen. You know how the land would fall barren under the wrong royals in some literature? That's what has happened.

The first one is titled, A Kiss of Shadows (2000).

Merry is constantly in danger from all the oh so powerful faerie around her as well. Yet, she always prevails, often through sex.

Ah, I think I might have saw one of these in the library. Looked at it but ended up not bringing it home. Although I don't think it was the first one so I'm glad I didn't. I hate reading series out of order.

I'm now reading Cody McFayden's The Face of Death.

Prefer his first novel, Shadow Men, better.

I've never been very happy with my library's selection - I think a prude selects the books, personally.

I feel exactly the same way, grace anne. I would love to have some variety.

Sometimes Im simply surprised by what they have and what I would expect them to have. But, San Diego County has a rather efficient inter-library transfer system.

I'm thankful my library has a wide range of selections.

Tipping the Velvet
had me dreaming nasty last night! Woo hoo! :D

Actually so does Multnomah county. I still am not happy with their selection.

I love her books too, and she is a lovely lady.

Rhage's book (Lover Awakened) wasn't my favourite. Lover Unbound, though, has very very strong BDSM elements. After all, Vishous is a sexual Dominant.

Lover Awakened is Zsadists story.

Rhage's story is Lover Eternal. I want to read Lover Unbound, too. For some reason I thought I had, but I haven't. It and Lover Awakened are the ones that interest me the most, and are therefore, the ones I can't find. Freaken murphy's law.

You might consider trading books with buds and relatives who enjoy the same sorts of books.

Me? Most of my family believes that any books that aren't Christian are sinful. Of course, they can watch movies with sex and violence in them, and that's ok. The only person I can think of who reads non-christian fiction is my sister, and she reads thrillers, only.

I used to find it ironic.. that my mom would devote most of her time to her "stories" (soap operas) yet.. wouldnt watch movies because of all the sex and violence...

My mother gets flat out snotty about my books, but she'll get the next shoot-em-up movie that comes out. The gorier the better.

My aunt wrote a book, based on abortion. I heard that it was really bloody and gory, but well written. I won't read it, because of the gore. My mom said 'with what you read, that bothers you?' Can you picture the snear? Sometimes I wish that confrontation didn't make my physically ill, cause I wanted to say 'not everyone has no problems with watching swarzenegger shoot holes in someone'.

I remember having to deal with that... I read Lord of the Rings after being told it was evil. These days I refer to that attitude as "christian superstition".

Yes.. I can picture the sneer..

Course, were my mother alive to see my library now, with the Sleepy Beauty Trilogy, Exit to Eden, Meredith Gentry and Anita Blake... although I think what would offend her most would be the Mist of Avalon series.. she'd probably disown me.

Hey, when I was pretty young, my Dad tore me a new one for bringing home a "evil" book from the library. What was the book?

Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm

Any fiction was a no no.

However I have quite a few friends to share out books/DVDs and such, with.

Thank goodness!

I'm sure you're still pretty. :p

My step-father burned a whole heap of library books I brought home once. Since then I have classified him alongside the Nazis.

I don't blame you!

I am very against the burning, discarding and/or censorship of books.

I finished Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters today. It was not my normal fare but it was quite good.

So, he did the nazi-ish thing, and burned the books?

Whenever my mom caught me with books she didn't approve of she just got rid of them. Especially if they weren't mine. I prefered that way, cause it made it easier to get them back.

I just read the lastest J.R. Ward book Lover Unbound. I didn't even know it was out until I saw it at the store yesterday. It was a welcome surprise since I've read all the others in the series. Of course I'm paying for those late night hours today.

I'm reading Gideon by Jacki Frank. Giving it another go. Tried to read it once before and didn't like it that much.
