The Necklace edited by Cheryl Jarvis was a really interesting read. I think it would be great for a book club but not a BDSM book club!
It was non fiction. I think it has some good food for thought in it.

I've just read the synopsis for that, it sounds very intriguing.![]()
I'm reading:
Full Frontal Feminism: A Young Woman's Guide to Why Feminism Matters by Jessica Valenti
Honestly, I picked it up today from the library and read half of it on the train home. It's very good - funny, quirky, an easy read. I wouldn't class myself as a 'young woman', it's aimed more at the late teens/early 20s market, however it is a valuable read. Especially for all women who've struggled with self esteem and tried to mould themselves into a perfect ideal of beauty.

That sounds like an important book, if for no other reason that many young women seem to think the word Feminism is a dirty word these days!

It is an important book. I finished it in less than a day - there were chapters on birth control, marriage (which I found refreshing in the sense it reaffirms the fact that marriage shouldn't be about a $10,000 engagement ring), beauty culture, politics, the wage gap...very fascinating. I can recommend it. Made me feel better about some things anyway
I'm now reading Skin Trade by Laurell K Hamilton.
Me and K argued like crazy over my engagement ring. He wanted to go massively into debt getting me something big, which I would have hated (the debt and the ring). I'm really into subtlety with my clothes and jewelry, I don't like gaudy. Then his mother mentioned she still had the wedding set from her marriage to K's dad, and would we be interested?
I loved it at first sight. And K was happy with it, because it's got several diamonds. It's a very old fashioned look, as it was bought in the 50's. We spent a total of $300 getting it cleaned, sized, and some repairs.
ETA: COVET on the new Hamilton. I'm gonna get it as soon as I have the money.

That is a lovely story, Gracie
I just hate the whole "you need to spend $28,000 on a wedding celebration that is going to last one day" thing. This book gives it to women straight - you don't HAVE to want that, it's okay not to want it. It also gives an important message (well I think so) that young women can be interested in politics and don't have to look like porn stars.
On the Laurell book - I know. I've been avoiding buying it for a week (hardbacks are expensive these days!) and then I saw it on offer, I just couldn't resist.![]()

I'm The Vampire, That's Why by Michele Bardsley is a bit too romancy for me. I find teasing but not actually having sex, irritating.
The rest of the story was light but amusing at times. Perhaps it was a bit too cute. I'll give it a 2/5 on my personal enjoyment scale.

Hi FurryFurry
I have a hard time finishing a cute book. I end up irritated and Bitchier than I usually am. I splurged last week and bought all of the new releases that I had on my wish list then the family arrived and I haven't gotten to read one of them. Hope to next week.
Reg

I have trouble with cute books too. I don't know why that is.
I tend to be off straight romance lately anyway. There has to be a darker edge, or lots of sexual tension that doesn't necessarily build into romance.
ETA: Skin Trade is getting back to more of what Anita used to be good at - executing. Although I'm only about 100 pages in so far, so I'll keep you all posted.
If you like the build up and the tension, definately try Kim Harrison's Dead Witch Walking series if you havent already. She has so much tension with her roommate Ivy, another vampire Kisten, and a few other people that its ridiculous Lol.
Also, Karen Chance's Cassie Palmer series, very interesting, im on the last book now. There was more tension in the first and third books, but the fourth isnt half bad.

I LOVE that series, although the first one wasn't as good as all the others after it. Partly that may have been due to my expectations. I wanted a dead / undead witch. LOL!

Hahaha yeah, the first one was alot of the intro to her story and everything, seemed like it was written with the intention of books to follow, rather than just one story. But good God, that last one I read...Her an dIvy....mmm...

Yep!
I know just what you mean!

But I miss Kisten I was so mad when she did that!
