Religious Beliefs

Since we all are Telling what we believe and all, I will put down my views as I see them.. But this is only my opinion, weather you agree with it or not, it is mine, and I do not try to push it on anyone.. But My purpose is to make you think about what is said and what has been said..

But Enough of the Disclaimer..

I am not an Athiest or an Agnostic, I DO NOT BELIEVE IN ANY MYTHOLOGIES!!!! Yes this Includes Greek, Norse, Hebrew, Christian/Catholocism (wich is the same thing, since both are taught from the same book as well as Jahovah Witnesses, and Mormans) Anciant or Modern.. and yes this will piss of the wife as well but I don't Believe in Witch's Gods or goddesses that most witches pray to..

I do Believe that there is a higher power, but not a god..

Gods were created in the Images of man so that people could relate to them.. YES I said it.. Man Created God as an Explanation for Creating the world and Life cause at the time they didn't know any better.. Proof of this is with the Anciant Greeks and Egyptions..

and I think that one of the things that Confuses me the most is in the Bible and the Cristian Myth today is....

The Second Comandment, wich has been Broken by all of the Christain/Catholic religions.. "Thou Shalt not make unto the any graven images"

Yet I have seen People Praying to Crosses of a dead man on them, just the crosses them selves, Roseries that have that same image on it, statues of Mother Mary, Little Trinkets of Mother Mary and Images of what god looks like and what Jesus looks like and soforth.. INCLUDING THE VATICAN..

Now how can the same people that preach that you have to live by these rules break them at the same time??

That is only one of many Examples that I can come up with..

YOu want to goto Archiology?? well yes there are places that have been discovered that aer in the location of what the Bible has said.. but then so are alot of the Greek places have been found also that are in the Greek Myths.. so what does that tell me?? it tells me that yes these plases excisted and that people belived in them, as they do today..

I'm sorry to ramble on as such but that is just a taste of what I believe..

E

P.S. This is in no way intended to piss any one off.. it is just somthing to think about..

This Sounds Agnostic to Me...

Religion is the Stuff of Humans...

Wow.. I can't believe I didn't get in on this earlier! :D

First of all, Star Wars does take the term "Jedi" from the Japanese language, but the stories are actually adapted from Arabian trading myths. That being said, onto the good religion stuff..

The idea of Christian witches does boggle my mind, though a part of me can sort of understand why people could take things a little too far and go that route. The line between prayer and witchcraft has definitely become blurred through organized religion. Prayer is asking God for something. Soon, there came standardized prayers-- the Apostle's Creed, Hail Mary, et cetera. The Catholic church took these further with the rosary, and the repitition of certain prayers in a certain order. A so-called Christian witch could then confront a naysayer and ask, "How is my ritual any more blasphemous than becoming blessed through ritualized cannibalism?"

I still think the concept of the Christian Witch is wrong.. The line may be thin and blurry, but it's still there. That's why, for Christians, prayer for the discernment of spirits is so incredibly vital.. You need to know where what you mess with comes from.

God grants the abilities of miracles and prophesy.. But those to whom he grants them usually don't have to cast some sort of holy spell.

Again, the thing NS brought up about graven images is also right on the mark; it's a thin and blurry line, but it's still there. I have some religious paintings, and I wear religious jewelery. Do I pray to any of it? No.

I liken it to a picture of a loved one you're separated from.. My boyfriend is in a different timezone, but I see his picture every day. Sometimes, when I particularly miss him, I might kiss the picture or talk to it briefly.

Does this mean I think my boyfriend is in the picture? HECK no! I'm sentimental, not insane. I think a lot of Christians are the same way.

May I offer you a different word. It might help you draw a distinction.
If you don't believe in a god, you are an atheist.
If you believe in the spiritual life of everything that exists, you are an animist.
If you believe in nothing exists except what can be weighed, measured etc. you are a philosophical Materialist.
So you can be an atheist and an animist, but not an atheist and a materialist.
I'm just a heathen!
Cheers

Oh my, and just in time for the Easter conflict...
My son wants to know why Pagans have such gift free holidays-I explained that life and the earth and our friends are gifts.
He looked at me and said," Jesus brings Christian kids candy to make them believe."
I am a pagan-I do not call myself a witch though many have, I am simply a pagan. These threads always amaze me such wonderfully diverse sentiments. What a great spot!

Its not religion I have a problem with, per se... its the organized part that bothers me.

Dilly dear, do you still have that E-Mail I sent you with my attempt to describe my belief systems?

Ok here it is, I wrote this to Dillinger when we were having an E-mail convo about the topic. I still rambled alot, but I think this was the best explanation I ever gave for how I believe. I've added some stuff here and there that I left out/forgot/missed. (Thanks for digging it out, Dilly)

As for my own Path, I'm still exploring. I started with Wicca. I don't even
>remember how I found it or became interested in it. I just know that I
>suddenly met a nice group online and became a member :) I studied and hung
>out with them online for awhile, and then eventually moved on when I
>*discovered* the world beyond Wicca. Since then I refuse to belong to any
>group like that only because it makes me feel limited.
>
>I also haven't deeply studied any one path. I mean I do, when I am able
>(When I can afford books, or have people to trade) and online, but mostly I
>just go through on my own, playing around (for lack of a better term) Until
>I find what sits right within me. Normal Trads don't seem to settle well
>with me at all, because I find that any kind of structure stifles me.

>I -suppose- I am also an atheist (For lack of a better term). I used to say agnostic but I've recently
>been leaning away into total atheism which pisses alot of pagan *friends*
>off but oh well. I honestly don't believe in any higher power, and that if
>there are or ever was *gods or goddesses* that they were humans. Meaning we
>are they...if that makes any sense. I also firmly am set in the belief that
>everything living shares energy, maybe we return to it when we die and
>whatever we become after that in a new life isn't the same makeup of energy
>as the past life, but just another chunk containing energy from billions of
>others who've died. Which could possibly be another explanation for past
>life memory, soul mates, people who seem to connect on some higher level
>with certain people etc (They shared the same energy in the past or
>whatever) Confusing I know but I can't seem to get that particular thought
>into words for some reason.
>
>I lean alot towards native american practices, druidism, and itailian
>witchcraft mainly because I found myself doing characteristic practices of
>all three long before I studied any of them in depth.
>Once I found that out, I got into them even more.
>
>I also think that ALL religions stemmed from the same thing. They just
>developed and grew into hundreds of totally different ways of life.
