I've tried to search this but keep getting '500 errors' so I thought I'd post. So...... my back hair grosses me out, it's rather thick....... and I want to remove it and keep it off or thin it more regularly. My wife used to shave my back for me, but changes in our relationship have changed that...... but that's another subject. What I'd like to know is - does anyone here have or know of a method for keeping one's back 'hair free' or 'hair less' without assistance? Lasering is not a financial option, so I'm left to find other methods. I'm not opposed to depilitories, my skin is pretty tolerant of chemicals. But.... how do I apply something to my back without wasting it or making a mess? Is there some kind of 'scrubber' like an Epilady that I can use? Suggestions welcome.

There are long-handled lotion applicators available for those with limited reach/mobility that you might be able to use to apply a depilatory cream like Nair.

Is waxing an option financially? If so, that'd probably be your best bet because it gives lasting results and the hair grows back thinner and finer over time. Perhaps you could even find a local school that'll do it for less, and once you get the majority of it removed, you may find you can keep it up for a while with a depilatory.

Don't know a good way to do it yourself. I finally took the plunge and got waxed last week. Wasn't as bad as I feared, andlooks and feels great.

Good ideas, I have an applicator for applying sunscreen, I bet I could use that. I never thought to look into a local instructional institution for waxing either. Thanks!

What did the wax job cost you? Pain is not an issue either, I got a tatoo on my back some time ago that was not that uncomfortable.

You should also be able to get one of those lotion applicators at one of your local medical supply stores. At least I've seen them in the medical supplies area of certain pharmacies, supply shops, and maybe even drug stores/places like Walmart. They're under $10, IIRC.

Depends on how much you are getting done and varies from place to place. Cost me $75 plus tip to get my back and butt done. Some places told me more. also checked a couple salon type places (the place I went bills itself as a spa) that were cheaper, but what areas they would do varied widely, ad did whether they worked on men.
