I'm curious if anyone knows where to find some pairs of the zip tie handcuffs that the police use in some areas instead of real handcuffs. Also, these are very hard to break out of, right?

Zip/cable ties are widely available in hardware stores like ACE and Home Depot, and I'm guessing mass merchandisers such as Walmart in varying lengths. Take or approximate some measurements (though it looks like around 22" is a popular size for police), and call up your local stores or look online to see what they have.

Sites like this (found by googling 'zip ties handcuffs' or 'police supplies') have the double-loop type, though you may be able to find those other places online for less as well. Most sites suggest just putting a tie on each wrist/ankle, and interlocking them.

Yes, they are strong. They're NOT recommended for bondage by a most because they're so narrow and can easily injure. If you're going to do this anyway, I think it'd probably be wise to protect the skin with something like several layers of gauze, soft material, or even an ace bandage. The person being restrained needs to be aware of the high risks of circulation and skin damage issues beforehand, and you'll need a good set of safety scissors ready for rapid release.

I think you actually need special clipper to cut them. You can't use a knife or anything. Not sure, but I'd enquire about that if you buy any.

When using them around the house, I've cut them with small pruning shears and utility scissors. You're right...knives aren't very effective and are downright dangerous when you're trying to get one off of an inanimate object, so trying on a person would be sheer stupidity.

BDSM practicioners/anyone who engages in bondage list safety/trauma/rescue shears like these that are used by paramedics and in emergency rooms to cut off clothes and other things as a must-have. They're sharp and heavy-duty, but have rounded tips and a special design that pretty much avoids injury to the patient. Actually, they are good for everyone to have around, and can be had online for just a few dollars.

let me tell you, zip-ties SUCK for fun bondage.

It's plenty easy to get some comfortable things that are just as hard to break out of, and won't leave your hands bright purple with marks around the wrist that'll last for days. Plus the "victim" might actually enjoy the experience.

One of the first things I used before I could afford much was (don't laugh at me) cat collars. go to the pet store, buy the smallest collars you can. They're good for simple, cheap, bondage. You can link them together with quick snap thingies, I can't remember what they're called... and there you have some cheap cuffs that're hard to break out of. (unless you buy the quick-release safety collars, ho ho ho)

Try cheaperthandirt.com .

I believe that they may have what you're looking for.

Personally, I got several pairs of real handcuffs (just like the one's you'll find on the Lit toy store... and for about 1/3 of the price) and ankle shackles there really cheap.

If Zip Cuffs are too tight, they will cause nerve damage if left on for a prolonged period of time. This is a serious problem when cops use them on people and keep the people cuffed. If you use them, you should be safe if they aren't too tight.

As for the scissors. The "trauma shears" on this page (http://www.goldenhourmed.com/sub-instruments___tools-trauma_scissors.htm) are truly excellent. I have a few pairs, not for BDSM or anything, just because, and it's true, they can cut through a penny. I demonstrate it for friends from time to time. Just be careful if you try it, because the penny will sometimes shoot out to the sides. (I don't cut through pennies anymore, because it is UnAmerican. I am making the country poorer.)

They could no doubt get thru zip cuffs. And they wouldn't cut your partner in the process.
