Rise of an Empire

Leaf rode towards Rhuarc, and stopped beside him, lowering his hood to show his Elven features. Ogre's were rarely hostile towards Elves, viewing them somehow as kindred. Perhaps because Elves also preferred forests, and were, according to rumor, somehow responsible for the magics that created most of the creatures in these forests.

He made a point of not drawing his bow, and instead held his staff one handed, leaning across his saddle. his other hand he held up, palm outward, toward the large Ogre.

"If we've crossed into your territory, we apologise," he spoke in the Ogre's own language. Ogre's can be testy about what they consider their's, and anyone encroaching on that territory can end up, rather... well... squished.

"We only wish to pass through peacefully."

Jokod

Jokod felt the last remenantd of his rage flow out of him as the Elf walked up to him. Jokod grunted and rumbled in his own low language. "Tresspasing? my land is shared by the elves, as we all know. i was caught.... off guard, and woken suddenly. yes, those are the words. if you have no quarrel, i appologize for your friend...."

Jokod straightened out of his crouch and stretched, cracking the vertebrea in his back loudly. "where would you be off to elf?"

Dust

I was relieved when the elf calmed the creature. Orges were so large and brute, it surely wasn't wise for us to tangle with one.
I watched, waiting to see if the elf could get the beast out of our way.

Vixen

The attack had been sudden.

She turned to see Angus flung from his horse as easily as if he'd been a toy doll. She almost winced at the sound he made on impact to the ground.

It wasn't the first time she'd seen an Org, but it was the first time she'd seen anyone SPEAK to one.

She eyed Leaf with considerable interest as he spoke something akin to Org tongue. As far as she knew, no one suspected them capable of speech. It seemed they only grunted and growled, much like animals. Although, Leaf had already caught her attention with his ability to speak to the birds.

He may be very useful indeed with talents like these.

She sat calmly enough on her horse as she watched the group reacting as they would to the conflict. Angus lay unmoving where he fell, Rhuarc had managed to manoeuvre to the side of the beast but seemed smart enough to know not to attack just yet. The dwarf's courage did not outweigh his intelligence. Logan seemed happy enough to let Leaf try and speak to the beast. As yet none of the other's had made a move and so Vixen continued to listen intently to the strange guttural conversation occurring before her.

Leaf translated the Ogre tongue to the group, and then spoke again to the huge being.

"I am called Leaf." He bowed his head, then raised it to look at the Ogre. "We are on a noble journey, friend Ogre, to the ancient city of Rockholm. Logan," he gestured to the leader, "leads us. We have no quarrel. I would be happy to act as translater if you do not speak the human tongue. I admit, it confuses me at times."

He cocked his head to the side, slightly. "Are you injured, friend? I am considered an adequate healer, I may be of some assistance...."

Jokod

Jokod pulled a couple splinters of wood out of his arm and shook his head "nothing time wont make allright" Jokod nodded to Logan and then turned back to the elf Leaf. "I am Jokod, i know some human language, but it.... is troubling. there have been strange occurances in these wood for the past couple months. you must be cautios when passing through. part of the road is trapped, and i would not go there, rogues have made camp, pillaging those who cross the road.

Rhuarc

Seeing that the Ogre was at least seeming friendly now, Rhuarc slides off his pony to check on Angus. He reaches him and notices that there is blood on his lips. Rhuarc tries to get him to sit up, but he can hear a grinding noise so he stops. He cuts open Angus' shirt and notices the fast purpling around his ribs. Rhuarc gingerly pushes against a rib and feels Angus recoil in pain. His let arm is also at a strange angle. It looks like he has some broken ribs and a broken left arm. Rhuarc struggles back to remember any of his field medical training, and looks for two straight stout sticks. He turns to Leaf and asks him to help look for the sticks, then he has a better idea. " Leaf, I know you are busy conversing with the Ogre, but Angus needs your healing."

Jokod

Jokod watched the Dwarf, and realized thet his companion was seriously hurt. he heard and understood a few words, like heal, and leaf of course.

Reaching into his clothing he pulled a drawn leather sack, filled with a slimey black muck. he nodded to the Dwarf and tried to speak human. "heal, pain, go."

Rhuarc

Rhuarc was barely able to understand what the Ogre was saying. He looks at the slimey black muck with consternation on his face. He turns to Leaf, "What in the name of Reorx's beard is this substance? I have never seen it before. "

Leaf started at the Dwarf's words. Injured. I'm a fool!

He jumped to the ground, and asked his mount to stay.

"I'm sorry, friend Rhuarc. I'm remiss in my responsibilities."

He fell to his knees, and peered inside the leather bag... and smiled.

"This is good. Very good..." he murmured.

He dipped his pinky into the bag, and brought a small dab of the brown muck, first to his node, and then placing a small amount on his tongue.

"...and at the height of potency."

He reached into his own pack and pulled out a small, purplish-green leaf, and held iy out to Rhuarc. "If he comes to, have him chew this. If not, we'll have to grind it into a paste, and press it between his bottom lip and gum. It will assist with the pain." He waited for the brave dwarf to take the leaf from him, before continuing.

Using his hands, he spread the contents of the bag over the wounds and bruises, and began to sing softly. The song was the sound of birds and trees, and the whisper of the wind through swaying branches. His fingers moved with the music tracing symbols in the ointment...

Rhuarc

Rhuarc took the leaf from the elf with a look of awe. This was something that he was always impressed by. Anyone could stick a sword in someone and injure them. It took special skills to be able to heal people, skills well beyond his means. He looked over at Leaf. "I agree that this all may help, but I dont think that he will be able to continue to travel with us. If he makes it through, this injuries will need some time to heal. He will need to go back into town. "

Devin stays at the rear of the group as the events unfold. He doesn't know a great deal about healing, and crowding an ogre, no matter how friendly he now seems, is not a good idea. One hand is kept on a knife though, as he looks on with his other hand lazily draped over the pommel of his saddle.

"Ouch", he thinks. "Poor Angus, that had to hurt."

Angus (ok, I will write him out for now)

Angus remembers riding through the forest, then he saw a large dark shape heading straight towards him. He does not remember anything after this. He sits up and feels a leaf being thrust into his mouth. "Ouch, my body hurts. What the hell happened? "

Rhuarc looks over.. "You were ambushed by that there Ogre. He thought you were trespassing on his territory. How do you feel? '

Angus "I feel like I broke some ribs and my chest is tender. I am not able to swing a sword at this time. I am afraid that I am of no use to you all. I should go back to town and rest until I am better. Maybe I can catch up with you later on. "

Rhuarc looks up at him. "I am sure that you have hit on the best solution. Ogre, how are you gonig to help fix this situation? "

Jokod

Jokod knew one thing if anything from this situation. he was going to have to learn human. he understood Ogre, and Fix, but fix wheat? the little man? he could take the pain away, but heal a now blueing chest? probably broken bones? no. maybe if he were a shaman, but he wasn't.

the closest villages where there might be a shaman, were his own village, and some human village a ways back. if a human came into his village, he may be dead before any explinations were given. no.... he'd have to go back to the human vilage, and see the blood drainers, and the white stip givers. damnit he was really going to ahve to learn this funny language, he was sure those people had a name.

Jokod nodded slowly. "jokod, i fix." he turned and grunted into the bushes where he came from, another grunt came back, a few roars and growls later, another Ogre walked out, picked up the man carefully and started to walk back down the trail

Jokod nodded "Jokod.... come. I replace?"

Rhuarc

Rhuarc looks over as two more Ogres come out of the woods. They pick up Angus and start down the trail. "Hey , where the hell are you taking him? Are you going to have him for dinner? Bring him back here right now. "

Jokod

Jokod had no idea what the short man creature said, he believed they were called Dwarves.... or Gnomes... no no, Gnomes looked like moles, that was right, this was a Dwarf. Jokod looked desparingly at Leaf and tried. "Jokod, i fix, i help. go back village, heal"

Leaf watched the Ogres take the Dwarf, and heard the Ogre's response to Rhuarc's statement.

"It's OK, Rhuarc," he held up his hand. "Jokod is taking him to be healed. Our friend will be safe."

How to explain Ogre honor...

Ogre ways are strange to us, but I can assure you, once they take someone into their possesion for the sake of helping them, they'll protect that person with their lives, and all the lives of their... clan... if necessary."

"To do otherwise would offend their beliefs." He switched to the Ogre language. "Our friend worries for our comrade, but I thank you for your help. I fear I would have not been able to help him survive."

Not been allowed would have been more accurate, but...

It's for the best.

Rhuarc

Rhuarc looks over at Leaf. "Ok, I understand what you are saying. But I am not familiar with Ogres like you seem to be. If anything happens to Angus, I hold his life against you. Remember that. Also, keep your pet Ogre in line then, I dont want to see him attack anyone else. " With a hmmph, Rhuarc mounts back on his pony and rides back to the front of the group.

Vixen & Logan...

Vixen spoke, "let me get this straight, we're letting an org... an org who downed one of our own group... join us?" She arched an eyebrow in Logan's direction.

Logan gave her a warning look. "Vixen, I trust Leaf."

"Well that's nice, hope you feel the same way when the org kills us all in our sleep."

"That would be unlikely in your case wouldn't it Vixen?" He replied with mild annoyance.

"Be that as it may, it won't travel well. We're hardly inconspicuous with that brute of a thing trailing us."

Logan sighed and turned to Leaf. "She is right, ogres are feared Leaf, he may end up being more harm to us that good."

Vixen snorted at this comment looking pointedly at Angus' fallen figure.

"Leaf, does this, Jokod understand that we travel far from this forest?" Asked Logan as he ignored Vixen's look.

Dust

An ogre...
I mulled the concept over.
An ogre...?
I shook my head.
We were going to travel with an ogre...
I glanced around, hearing Logan and Vixen speak to one another. The two seemed to never get along, especially for old friends.
An ogre was joining the group, after pounding Angus to the ground, we were welcoming him in.
I looked to my skin, wishing I'd saved just a small amount of the wine I'd dumped out.
The wrong day to quit drinking...

Leaf tapped his finger against his chin. All he wanted was a chance to study the amulet, and now this. Now he was responsible for the Ogre.

He relayed Logan's message to the Ogre about traveling far from the forest. The Ogre would replace the fallen comrade out of a sense of honor, but would he want to continue through to it's fruition?

This was going to be a fascinating journey, for certain. Logan's trust in him was just the newest indication of that.

He decided not to inform Jokod of his responsibility over him. He just hoped that he had control over the legendary Ogre temper.

"Knowing the distance we will travel, are you sure you'll accompany us, Jokod?"

Rhuarc

Rhuarc was suprised to see how easily the rest of them were accepting the ogre into the group. He was concerned for Angus but was sure they would take care of him . He told Jokold, "Tell your Ogre friends to bring Angus to my house, he can recover there. "

Jokod

Jokod nodded and smiled at Leaf. "your man has fallen, he falls because of me, i will take his place as best, i can, and do what he'd do. if that means traveling to the far depths, then so be it."

Jokod looked to the small man, the Dwarf. "re-cover? your house.... rest! heal. heal in your house. yes. uh...." he had no idea where to tell them to go. "uh.... name, place. house name?"

Jokod growled to the other ogres, telling them to take the man to the small peoples house in the village, the dwarf house, but they needed a name.

Rhuarc

Rhuarc looks over at the Ogre with a small amount of respect. His speech is getting better."The name of the shop is the 'Silver Smithery ' , over on Blossom Street. My apprentices will help take care of him. He will be in good hands. "
