As for the books...they're by Anne Rice. Here's how it's described in the books:
The Witching Hour

that's the premis...the clan of Mayfair...long line of witches and an evil being who gives them whatever the wish, but the being is really just using them for his own purposes.
As with any Anne Rice book, it's slow going at first (why she has to drag everything out and describe every single detail including the cracks in the sidewalk, I'll never understand) but if you like those types of books (meaning Anne Rice
), it's really good once you get into them
