There had been many changes in Scarlet's life, that happened to be a very bad thing. Scarlet was very simple and very friendly, she had a very interesting job. She worked with singers, she got it because of her father. Before he died in a drunk driving accident, he could get anyone for Scarlet to meet. But now all that was gone, in just one blink moment. Things had changed, and not in a good way, for a long time she hated people at times. But she did everything she could to stay quite.

But something happened, when she was in 10 grade, she met a guy that was very nice, his name was Aaron. He was a bit older then her, her father didn't mind the age difference. Felt like only yesterday that they had met, but now it no longer mattered. She was eighteen and out of high school, she is happy for the most part. But a part of her will always be upset, that was natural. That was something her parents always said, but it was just to hard. Scarlet was at the public library, she decided to brush up on music.

She studied so hard that she got a headache, but being in thought refused to let her go. Her eyes looked up every time someone came in, she was wondering if Aaron was coming.

The figure that moved down the darkened cement paths with the intense and steady pace of a patrolman did so carrying a black satchel with an odd shape. Standing nearly a head above the students and various city officials who moved in and out of the library's scenery, and unnoticed but for the minute, unacknowledged gestures and movements they made to allow the figure to pass, it isn't until it stops its urgent stride and pauses to look at a directory mounted into a placard near the main staircase that the whirlwind of activity around the figure settles, and it finally takes a shape.

The man is youngish, a grad student perhaps, or maybe even a young teacher. A few women, clearly students at the nearby city college, pause to appraise him--and to make sure he notices them noticing him, before heading up the stairs to continue their gossip and their studies. Smiling after them and taking a rakish glance up their skirts before shrugging his instrument into place against his shoulder, he turns to the directory again and finds what he is looking for.

Under the gentle reading lights of the library, the shape of the instrument in the case on the man's back is clearly a saxophone, it's familiar contours under the light taking away it's menace in the shadows. On the back of it, scrawled in blocky, mom-like print in black magic marker on a piece of athletic tape was the name Aaron.

Gripping the key to the soundproof recital room on the seventh floor in his hand, he begins his long hike up the library's massive marble staircase...

She went back to writing her music, ignoring everything around her. But something made her stop, her eyes scanned the big library. She stood up and went to the door, she smiled seeing it was Aaron. Sometimes she had gut feelings, didn't happen a lot. But still there are times, that make her wonder how she knew. Scarlet opened up the door, she smiled seeing Aaron coming. Talk about creepy, her instincts told her to open the door. And here was Aaron, shrugging the feeling off she smiled.

"Hey stranger" Scarlet said with a soft smile.

Scarlet had a thing for him, and it wasn't a fling. She had liked him for a while now. But didn't know how to tell him. So she stayed quite, Scarlet noticed his case and opened up the door for him.

She knew where he was headed, since he had his saxophone with him. This was more interesting, tilting her head to the side. She began to think of the first time she met, she sighed her mind. Her memory enjoyed her memories, but sometimes she thinks over time. Which means a lot of different memories she remembers all at once. Sharking her head however, she wondered what was on his mind.

"Heya Red."

Aaron looked down into her bright, eager eyes. When she saw him, her face lit up the way it used to when she'd catch him smoking out behind the club with the rest of the band. The smile was a mixture of open innocence and mischeviousness, the kind a girl gives her big brother when she knows she's got something on him and hasn't decided quite how to use it yet.

Her breath caught in her throat at the use of her old nickname and, for a moment she was fifteen again, all flustered and excited and happy enough to giggle, which she didn't do. Aaron smiled and enjoyed the silent pause, as much if not more than she did. He didn't let his grin spread any wider then his trademark smirk, but his eyes took their time moving up and down her body. If she hadn't been trying to hide her blush, she might have noticed him taking her in a little longer than usual.

Aaron felt a sluggish tug under his belt buckle as he made note of how Scarlet's slender tomboy hips had filled out, and the way her faded sweatshirt hugged her fuller, more womanish frame. In fact, if it weren't for her open-faced grin and megawatt smile, Aaron might not have even recognized her if she hadn't done it for him.

Scarlet had grown into a beauty.

Scarlet remembered the first time they met, it was a very special time for her. If it wasn't for him, she would have no friends in the world. But to her she was used to it, she had no friends in school. She was to busy for them really, in school she had a lot of homework and enjoyed hanging out with teachers. She was more mature then most people in high school, but then again her history didn't help. Looking up into his eyes, feeling his arms around her. She closed her eyes enjoying it. She had a crush on him, has for a while now. But when it came to expressing that kind of love, she didn't know how to do it. Looking up at him, it was a special moment, looking into his eyes.

"What are you up to?" She asked with a grin.

Aaron paused for a moment, thinking himself caught with his eyes down Scarlet's blouse. The sincerity in her tone was too keen, too genuine to be real. His first thought was that she must have caught him admiring the gentle curve of her breast as she girlishly hid her cheek from him. His second was that she didn't mind.

He considered telling her exactly what he was up to, but instead indicated his instruments and the sheaf of music he needed to record by morning and motioned to one of the recital rooms he'd rented. It was hidden off in a corner, with a heavy metal door designed to muffle sound.

Aaron decided to test his theory by inviting Scarlet along to play with him. Even if it turned out she was looking at him as nothing more than an old friend, it would still be nice to see how much she'd improved.

"...and close the door behind you when you come in. The sound can bounce all over the library once it gets out of this room."

Scarlet followed Aaron, and sat down. Her eyes scanned the room then to him, something about him was off. Then again maybe it was just her imagination, she had a huge crush on him. But she wouldn't tell him, they had some history. All because she was shy, but would never tell anyone. Right now she was well relaxed.

"So what are you up to Aaron?" She asked curious.

Sometimes she was to curious, but that was something she could get in trouble at times. Sticking her nose where it did not belong, but she didn't do this much.

Aaron let Scarlet organize his music while he set the room up to resemble the layout of the club where he would be performing later that week. He moved chairs into circles where his audience would be sitting and arranged the stage with places for his bandmates to sit.

He watched her sneak peeks at his music. Many of the songs she'd heard before, either at performances he'd done in one of her father's clubs or listening in on one of the "jam sessions" the musicians would hold at the end of the night, when the cheap liquor was all gone and the top shelf booze and weed came out.

"I've got a show this weekend," Aaron said, finally answering her question when the room was set up to his liking. "I'm in the house band for a local studio. They're trying to get a buzz going for this new cat and they're hitting all the local clubs first."

Scarlet just smiled at him with those big doe eyes. He wondered if she'd even heard him. Smiling back at her, he asked her what she'd been up to since he'd seen her last. At their last conversation, she was determined to become a musician like him and all her dad's friends. Then again, she was what, maybe fifteen, when ideas like that sound like good ideas with happy endings?

"So Scarlet, what have you been up to," Aaron asked, smiling broader when the discomfort at being asked a direct question caused her to blush cherry red right down to her shoulders.

Scarlet was the kind of person who loved life, she always tried so hard to become something in the music business. But deep down she figured it would never happen, so she didn't even bother talking about it. When she was in a chair and leaned back, she couldn't help but smile at him. He was the kind of guy you would love to have, there friendship was very interesting. Sometimes it was complicated, but that was because she loved him. But would never say it, but then again. She loved him and wanted him to love her in return, she always liked calling her his name for her. She enjoyed being called "Red" But only Aaron would have that right.

"I have been recording some of my music, I'm not to sure if I would ever have the balls to let anyone listen to the CD. You know me, I blush to easy. And if I was to let someone listen to it. It would take a lot of balls. But you, you I would perform with." She looked down a little and sighed some.

Aaron looked up from his music equipment when Scarlet mentioned a CD. In his own bag, he only had copies of the music he was supposed to be learning and he wasn't looking forward to it. Listening to something Scarlet wrote intrigued him. Maybe it was the lonely, isolated feel of the recital room, or just the fact that it was empty, but Aaron wasn't really in the "swing" right now. The room felt hollow, nothing like the jazz clubs where he earned his chops.

"Let's hear your stuff," Aaron said, setting up his CD player.

When he looked to Scarlet again though, she looked more than nervous though, she was shaking ever so slightly.

"What's wrong?"

She couldn't help but laugh and sighed some what, looking into his eyes she just relaxes. "I'm alright, ive never really sang in front of people. But I will for you' She said with a soft smile. She relaxed a bit, thankfully there was a piano. And with a deep breath she started to play, and allowed herself to play, she closed her eyes, happily. The Song

Things happened for a reason she knew, and this was a moment she would do. While she sang, she was happy. It was always easy to get in the mood to perform, she had no idea what he would say.
