Russia at it again

If LGBT groups really wanted to make an impact, they would tell people to boycott watching the Olympics. NBC paid 750 million dollars for the rights to broadcast this olympics and they are selling advertising based on ratings. If people stop watching, advertisers will demand rebates on the fees they paid or will want the network to give them free spots in prime time programs to make up for the shortfall in the ratings. You hit them in the pocketbook like that, and it will change things, broadcasters will start pressuring the IOC, who depend on that tv revenue, and things change.

I personally don't hold out much hope, the IOC like the Russians are a kind of thugocracy. The IOC primarily exists to make money for those who work for it, it is big business. The IOC makes all this blather about supporting human dignity, about friendly competition and so forth, but keep in mind these were the same people who let the 1936 olympics happen in Berlin and basically told those objecting that Germany was a civilized place.....the IOC doesn't stand for anything except it own power and greed, expecting them to stand for something is kind of fruitless.
 
...but at least we can, as Mr Fry has done, express public outrage in our own countries and to our representatives. I hate this feeling of impotence. How could I look a Russian trans woman in the eye and say "I stood with you, I switched off my tv."
 
Yep, the IOC knows only one god and its name is Mammon.

I always boycott the Olympics anyway (sick of the emphasis we put on pro sports) but this time round, anybody who tries talking to me about the Games is going to get an extra-special killjoy lecture.

Piece of trivia, I had the honor of meeting his widow a while ago, she spoke at a group I belonged to and I interviewed her for our newsletter (she was quite a bit younger than he)....


This is spreading beyond the Olympics. LGBT groups are trying to get a performance of a Tchaikovsky Opera at the Metropolitan Opera in NYC dedicated to LGBT people,in part because the Gergiev the conductor and Anna Nebtrenko, the star Soprano, are big supporters of Putin. It would be appropriate, given the fact that tchaikovsky was gay, but of course we get that the Met is not political, it isn't appropriate....what, to acknowledge that gays are human beings?

Funny story about tchaikovsky, he wrote his violin concerto for a Swiss bisexual violinist who was his lover, wanted to dedicate it to him, but got cold feet, afraid it would out him..so he offered it to a famous violinist Leopold Auer (who later became even more famous as a teacher, students included Heifetz and Millstein, two of the giants of the violin in the 20th century), who told him it was unplayable (these days 10 year old violinist perform it...). Tchaikovsky then offered it back to his lover, who wasn't happy at all about being offered it because the other guy turned it down, one musicologist said he didn't want sloppy seconds...
 
Russia isn't going to be told how to run their nation by the very small and non powerful, unimportant and skittle flag waving LGBTs anymore than I am!
March, boycott, wave your flags have a hissy fit its very amusing to see you all act this way and there's not a Supreme court or President that can force your views on Russia!

Once upon a time there was a lonely dude whose only avenue of sexual release was hitting 'refresh' on the Amateur Pics forum. He felt small and insecure about this - perhaps deep down he wanted some sort of emotional connection, or perhaps he just wanted some RL warmth and physical contact instead of worrying about where to position the tissue to protect his keyboard when he came, utterly alone.

But he couldn't figure out how to make that happen. As the years ticked by, making himself attractive to RL women just seemed harder and harder. So instead he decided to distract himself from his misery by trying to make somebody else feel even smaller and lonelier.

Can't help you with the sex thing, dude. But here is a genuine and heartfelt hug, because I think you need one. And it costs me nothing to be kind to people.
