The Red Sox, due apparently to ineptitude and stupidity, have been unable to come to terms with Theo Epstein. Looks like it'll be another 86 years...

I'm a big sox fan, and although I don't believe Theo made all the moves that built last seasons' world series champs, he did make several good moves and has been the only GM ever to have the guts to make the huge moves he made last year. No one else comes close.

But I think the job comes with too much baggage, especially in-house. Good for him, he should do well in whatever he chooses to do.
Completely agree. I wish him well, not his fault that idiots are calling the shots...

Bill Parcells when he stepped down as the patriots' coach. something like: if I'm going to do the cooking they should at least let me shop for some of the groceries.
Well, at that time, the Patriots already had Tuna. :p

hey, it's not even halfway through the season, scalywag: still too early to call. i'm very curious to see how my giants fare over the next 3 games (@SF, then hosting the hapless and culpepper-less vikes and philly).

you still have one of the league's best passers, and belichick is still an amazing coach. keep the faith, man. :>

I'll have to start putting together my resume for the red sox GM job. I'll be willing to be a kiss-ass yes-man who gives all the credit to the ownership when they win and take all the blame if they lose, and they only have to pay me $1 million/yr. Anyone want to be my assistant?
Would I get to eat at Locke-Ober at least once per week?

sure, we'll make that a monday regular event. then we can discuss how the team fared the past week. during spring training, we'll still go; we'll fly on Henry's private jet.
I'm in. :D

Is the postition purely window dressing? If so, I'm in. I'm not cut out for an actual "working" type job. I can usually be counted on to come down with a case of "anal glaucoma"...loosely translated as "I don't see my ass going to work any time soon."

yup, seems to me you're qualified.

MWY will be flying in tommorrow morning on Henry's jet. I'll have the limo pick you both up. Then we'll go to Fenway and pick out our seats for next season. :)
I know it's probably not where the execs sit, but I want a front row seat atop the Green Monster. :nana:

Just as an aside: time for a quick hit of Red Sox nostalgia. Not long after I moved to Chicago I went to see the Red and White Sox play at Comiskey Park. Jim Rice broke a bat by checking his swing. I have never seen anything like that and don't expect to see the likes of it again. What incredible arm strength!

I remember that about Jim Rice. I miss Dewey Evans throwing people out at home from right field on a regular basis.

I loved going to see Oil Can Boyd pitch. He's one of my all time favorites.
I got to see Oil Can pitch Game 3 in the 86 series. A brother got tix for my folks by my mom didn't want to go so I went with my dad... he prefers to see sports on TV but he actually did the 'wave' with the crowd!

There is nothing else to say about 86.

Scaly, I'd be happy with The No Name. HA, only Yank... Locke-Ober.
