I felt the same way 99% of the days I went to work. It was hard to believe I was being paid to have so much fun!

Now computer geek tell me this........where the 'ell is the cord that connects the scanner. I just scanned a picture last month. Why did I remove the cord? BTW, I have a degree in educational technology........never heard of it I'm sure.

Sorry, had some business elsewhere. Errands to run, blah, blah. Scanner cord? Honey, have you looked at the back of the scanner? <standard practiced sarcastic tech guy question #1).....

Yeah, I know. I can't count the number of times teachers called to tell me their printer wasn't working. "I just put in a new toner."

For some unknown reason I removed everything from the scanner. Whatever I need is on/near the computer desk. I've learned my lesson so I'll go to option 2!

What the 'ell is option 2?

Well, Option 2 out of the sarcastic tech guy handbook is, "is it plugged in?" But we'll go directly to look in the second desk drawer on the left, under some stuff.

Yes.
The problem is that I rarely use the scanner, so it's only connected when I need it. I have two printers connected, a laser and an inkjet. I should have left the cords to the laser in place, but I didn't. I will when I get the thing working again. Everything I need to make it work is there because I put all the computer stuff (except the speakers that wouldn't fit) in one drawer before I moved.
