Evan stole a sidelong look at Nerina as she watched beside him. That last comment of hers could be taken in a few different ways but it sounded to him almost like she felt envious or maybe even jealous that he'd gotten more of a clue than she had. Not that it was much of one.
He shook his head slightly, "I don't really know what the deal is. The note's pretty cryptic." He actually pulled the folded up piece of paper out of a jacket pocket and offered it to Nerina to peruse. "Besides, I think your father probably figured you were smart enough to figure it out without hints." He chuckled, "I bet it's just that you're smart enough not to need the hints I do."
It might also be a difference in outlook. He'd read Greek myths and stuff in high school and Norse ones after his mother had revealed his true heritage to him. The Greeks seemed to demand a lot and give little to their heroes. But saying that wouldn't exactly cheer the beautiful girl up.
"So, I'm thinking that this drilling we were told about and the drinking stuff can't be the real problem. It all seems way too...normal." He grimaced, "They're also both social trends that we can't do a lot about, especially the drinking thing. That's been going on here for centuries." He put his hands in his pockets. "So...what's the real problem?"
He felt eyes on him. Having been in front of the cameras in nothing had made him very familiar with the feeling of being watched. He paused in walking and half turned, looking back down the street. "Are we being followed?"
