Selma, Let The Whining Begin

It didn't need to be. We were supposed to rush out and see it because we're not racists and we were supposed to boycott sniper because of the empty chair and now that that did not happen in the free market, the Left is hopping mad witness Rogan and Moore...

;)

It should have zero competition for any awards and the cowardly killer should not have been nominated for anything.

Wtf ate you talking about? I saw American Sniper, stop making shit up.

Why are you so invested in seeing negative commentary about this movie? Why do you care? Is just a movie.

The basic bitch schmucks don't really give a fuck and are largely indifferent to this movie, what it means concerning The Oscars and the whole discussion surrounding it. They're just repeating what they're seeing on the internet as "news" in order to make themselves smell up-to-date and have something to say so they don't feel left out.

Well, for starters, he keeps referring to it as The Butler.

Not only do the schmucks not know of or about the director Ava DuVernay — which ironically is one of the main problems concerning the Oscar snub — they keep mouthing Oprah's name because she's only one of maybe five prominent black people they can use as a point of reference.

Other prominent black names that are oft dropped when the basic bitches get pressed: Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Chris Rock, Louis Farrakhan...and maybe Charlie Rangel as a wild card.

Maybe. :D

Their portrayal of LBJ was grossly inaccurate.

Translation: "They didn't make him out to be the white savior of the black race that we wanted them to show."

I think there's a gigantic middle ground between portraying LBJ as a savior and insinuating that he was working hand in hand with J. Edgar Hoover to blackmail King, which is what the film apparently implies.

There is little question that LBJ agreed with that the Voting Rights Act was necessary. His concern was more practical: can we do this so soon after the Civil Rights Act, which was no easy piece of legislation to get through. That's the age-old tension between what activists want done immediately and what politicians believe is possible. That's not such an easy thing to dramatize, though.

Maureen Dowd wondered why there weren't enough villains in the real story of Selma to satisfy the makers of the film (frankly, given the violence there, I was surprised to see the film is only rated PG-13) -- that they had to raise the stakes by portraying the president as being against them too. It's a fair question.

My wife says the movie problem is people are tired of blacks obsessing over the past, and people are over Obamullah and Sharpton waving the race flag all the goddamned time. So Oprah got her ass harpooned this trip, to send a message. FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO WHINE ABOUT.

Oh, if only Mona would venture out of the Playgrounder thread more than usual...

...she'd read the poll unfolding before her very eyes.

But is the movie any good??? Anyone seen it??? Zumi??? Funk?

Lol, that's awesome, Rob! XD Did you make that? We should play that sometime. Make it a drinking game and we'll do shots. :D

Wow.

Getting a little homoerotic in here now. Dudes talking about back doors and shit.*

*Don't get excited, Vetty! :D

It's not just a movie, it's a propaganda film designed to fortify a narrative of history that didn't exist. Same with "The Butler."

J Edgar was also inaccurate for dramatic effect. Where is your complaint on it? Please link me. Or do white people and films get a pass with you?
