your family is full of great success stories, from your grandma all the way up to you and steven. Your brother sounds like he worked is arse off to get where he is at...sure ur dad was a guiding light in his life also. Your right about not being totall focused going to college...i was 18, turning 19 a few weeks after it started, and I was more into the "Freedom" that college allowed a newly released teenage boy. I wasn't mature enough at the time to handle all the responsiblity and I have kind of slipped down the path ever since. I have no one to blame about my path in life other then myself...now it is time to right the ship and get a new heading in life.



I am sure you made mistakes, as we all have, but like you also said, it is what u do with those mistakes that matters most. You seemed to have learnt and built on them and done quite well for yourself and accomplished a lot of your goals in life. KUDOS to you..

there is one thing I am truely impressed about you...you have one skill a lot of ppl lack. they don't teach this skill in any colleges or universites, only in the University of Life do u learn this skill....Listening.... you seem to do that quite well, and that is what makes you such a fabulous person.

Sweetheart it's like what I said.............a draw of the cards. I must said that my fledging brother was also brilliant and probably bored with high school........which we all failed to notice. He was a real individual and probably the only one in the family that cause my Mom and Dad real grief. Obedient he was not. LOL
How many of us knew at 18 what " we wanted to be when we grew up". I wanted to be a Broadway Star. LOL My folks gave me the opportunity to drop out of college and pursue that. I danced on Broadway for a year. I finally figured out myself that I was too short to be a star dancer and my voice was not really theatrical. My life would have been in the chorus. I came home and went back to college. Thus I became an RN that did little theater all my life for no pay. LOL
I just got off the phone with my oldest child ( oldest by 5 minutes of twins). He is the only one of my children that is a bachelor at age 43. He has been a casanova all his life and rather selfish. He called to tell me " Mom, I found her". I am euphoric now. I have always known what he wants. That is a good woman and a family. The clock was ticking. I have supported him in all his decisions in life but have secretly yearned that he would find a woman that he could fulfill his life with. I have never heard him so excited. Tonight I will celebrate this good news with Steve. If what you said about listening is true of me..........God knows I have listened to this son for years now. I have listened and never scolded. The truth is, listening is as important as anything we can do in life. I have learned from you and you I hope have learned from me. That is the real " school of life".
I surely wish there was a way to post video clips on this site. I would dance and sing for you. LOL

yeppers life is deffently a poker game, u have to play what ur dealt, some ppl get good cards and know how to play them, while others tend to fold or go bust.

your son sounds a lot like me, even though i did test the waters of marriage for about 6 yrs after that I have been doing the bachelor life. Sometimes I really like this life, but then there are other times i just dread it, not having that special someone in my life to come home to...the dog and cats are great, just not the same...sometimes they are better because they don't care what kind of day u have had or what mood u are in, they still luv u no matter what.

I am glad u found ur calling in life, and that ur path has led u to lit. If not for "dealer" and the cards of fate, our paths' would have never crossed, but I for one am glad they did.

Good morning honey. I was so bummed last night. I wrote another long segment for the story and somehow I deleted it when I went to post it. So I just closed down the computer and went to play with Steve. Yes, some folks just make life so complicated and self destruck.

My son has lived with some wonderful gals but his selfishness always has surfaced and ruined what could have been a great match. Now that he is older and feeling the pinch he has mellowed considerably. I have talked to him long and hard over the years. He is very successful and has all the toys but never has been satisfied or truly happy. I truly hope and pray he has learned some lesson's and is now ready to open up without feeling vulnerable. He surely sounds like he has on the phone. His new girlfriend is 29 and a very put together young woman. She wants a family and told him that up front. I know he has always wanted that also and he isn't getting any younger. Many of the women he has dated are divorced with children. I rather knew that he is not a person that would be a good step father. Another issue is the age difference. It's more dramatic at their ages than say Steve and myself. My daughter is married to an older man and they have three children. I see some problems in that relationship based on age difference. She is a devoted wife and mother and I am sure she will sort it out but it will take some patience. She is 36 and he will be 50 in a few months. I don't see you as the type of man that wants to spend his entire life with a cat and dog honey. LOL

Martin a good day to you my friend. Yes, I am very happy to hear the news and have a conversation with him where he was so open and expressive. He hasn't all been like that. Of course, the happiness of our children is what all parents want.
This my oldest child but also a physically identical twin. Even at 43 it's hard to tell them apart physically but personality wise they are like night and day. I raised them to be individuals. Didn't dress them alike, etc. I was concerned that they would loose some of their identity. The younger one ( 5 min.) is loving, caring and extremely generous. Have you ever hugged someone that only hugged stiffly with their head and shoulders but left a space between the chest? That is the old one. LOL His younger brother always pick him up in bear hug and he get's an expression like he is being molested. LOL They do it to get his goat. LOL

Yes, my Mom and Dad were a great love story and a wonderful example to all their children. God rest their souls.

Such a darlin you are babe. No eggs though please. Somehow in the last 10 years I have lost my taste for them. I use to love scrambled eggs or sunny side up but just can't eat them now. Mike I thank you so much honey. I truly, truly love to communicate with people. I learn as much from them as they might from me. I especially enjoy talking with men. So many women complain that men don't talk. One of the reason's is that a lot of women don't listen. I KNOW I HAVE DISCUSSED A BIT ABOUT MY LATE HUSBAND IN THIS THREAD BUT NOT SAID MUCH ABOUT HIS AND MY INVOLVEMENT IN THE SWING SCENE. MY INVOLVEMENT IN THAT WAS RATHER A LOW PART OF MY LIFE. I MARRIED LARRY IN 1992 WHEN I WAS 50 AND HE WAS 67. HE SWEPT ME OFF MY FEET. WILD, FUN, GENEROUS, VERY SEXUAL AND TREATED ME LIKE A QUEEN. THE MAN COULD RUN CIRCLES AROUND A 40 YEAR OLD. FORMER P51 FIGHTER PILOT ACE ( DO YOU KNOW THE TYPE ). HUMPHREY BOGART KIND OF TOUGH GUY. IN RETROSPECT I NEVER HAD A BORING DAY WITH HIM BUT IN THE END I PRAYED FOR A BORING DAY. LOL
IT WAS A WHIRLWIND FOR THE FIRST TWO YEARS AND THEN HE WAS DX'D WITH COLON CA. HE HAD SURGERY AND A COLOSTOMY (BAG ON HIS SIDE) AND POST OP RADIATION. IN THE COURSE OF THE SURGERY NERVES WERE SEVERED THAT CAUSED IMPOTENCY. THIS WAS OF COURSE A BIG BLOW TO BOTH OF US. TRIED DIFFERENT THERAPIES TO CORRECT IT WITH LITTLE RESULT BECAUSE DURING THIS TIME HE WAS ALSO DX'S WITH EMPHZEMA. HE BEAT THE CA AND A YEAR AND 1/2 LATER THEY SURGICALLY PUT HIM BACK TOGETHER BUT HE COULDN'T PUT DOWN THE LUCKY STRIKES. SO HE REGRESSED TO BEING ON OXYGEN 24/7. SO ORAL SEX WAS EVEN OUT OF THE QUESTION. HE COMES UP WITH THE IDEA THAT WE JOIN THE SWING SCENE FOR "MY BENEFIT". I THOUGHT THIS WAS LUDRICIOUS BUT HE WASN'T A MAN YOU SAID " NO " TOO. WE WENT INTO THAT AS THE PERRINIEL ODD COUPLE. I FELT LIKE I HAD BEEN THROWN INTO A MEAT MARKET. I HATED IT SO I GOT INVOLVED IN THE ORGANIZATION PART OF THE SWING COMMUNITY. I WILL SAY THAT I LEARNED A GREAT DEAL ABOUT SWINGING DURING THOSE YEARS AND SAW THINGS I WOULD NEVER HAVE SEEN AND PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE MISSED THAT. LOL I DID MEET SOME COUPLES THAT UNDERSTOOD MY DILEMA AND EMBRASSED ME FOR IT. THEY REMAIN FRIEND'S OF MINE TO THIS DAY. LARRY'S ILLNESS DURING THOSE YEARS JUST DETERIORATED DAILY. HE LITERALLY WAS ON LIFE SUPPORT FIVE TIMES, FOUGHT BACK AND CAME HOME. IN THE LAST YEAR THE PARAMEDICS, POLICE, FIRETRUCKS AND AMBULANCE WERE AT OUR HOME 18 TIMES. I CAN'T IMPRESS YOU ON ENOUGH TO HAVE " NO HEROIC " PAPERS IN PLACE FOR YOUR LOVE ONES. I WOULD NEVER, NEVER PUT STEVE THOUGH WHAT I WENT THOUGH WITH LARRY. HE WOULD LITERALLY DIE IN BED AND I HAD TO CALL OR BE ACCUSED OF LETTING HIM DIE, ETC. THEY WOULD COME AND COME UP TO ME AND ASK IF HE HAD SIGNED THE PAPERS YET AND I WOULD HAVE TO SAY NO. THEY ALWAYS HUGGED ME AND TOLD ME THEY WERE SORRY AND THEN THEY WOULD BRING HIM BACK.
SO WHEN HE DID PASS AWAY IN JAN, 2001 I WAS ANGRY. HE PUT ME THOUGH HELL AND I WAS EXHAUSTED AND FRIGHTENED. STEVE CAME INTO MY LIFE AND TAUGHT ME TO REMEMBER THE GOOD TIMES I HAD WITH LARRY AND NOT JUST THE BAD.
BUT I DID ASK A FAVOR OF STEVE, BEFORE WE MARRIED. I REQUESTED THAT HE ATTEND A SWING PARTY WITH ME SO HE COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT IS WAS LIKE FOR ME DURING THAT TIME. HE WAS GRACIOUS ENOUGH TO DO THAT. I ALSO WANTED TO INTRODUCE HIM TO SOME OF THE REALLY GREAT COUPLES I HAD MET AND SHOW THEM HOW HAPPY I WAS NOW. THEY WERE DELIGHTED FOR ME AND GLAD I WAS WITH A MAN THAT WOULDN'T SHARE ME.
