Separating Transgender and Crossdresser stories?

Sorry if I offended you. 😐
You didn't. However I got the answer to my question (Can we separate these categories? No, because Literotica doesn't care about accurately representing LGBTQ+ communities), and the thread has no developed into a debate over categories vs tags (which is not what I intended), so the thread has served its purpose.

It's still the best readership site I've found for gay and bi stories, though, so I still post them here.

That isn't the reason.

This is a very large site and any changes can create problems with administration of it. As noted, no changes have been made to categories in over 20 years. Pleas have been made multiple times and it just doesn't seem technically possible or practical.

As far as I can tell, the Web site has never given this as a reason either.

As far as I can tell, they've rarely given much of a reason for anything they do, or don't.

And yet, in #31 you asserted a reason for this thread issue.

Over a decade ago, Laurel PM'd me, asking if the site should open a bisexual category. I, of course, said yes. So, at least then they were contemplating doing so. Subsequently, she gave a regular poster (Stella_Omega) permission to run a thread on whether users wanted that. The thread ran for eighteen months, with posters universally supporting a new category. Laurel eventually (and on a different thread) said she never contemplated opening a bisexual category, and the regular poster who had run the information-collection thread for eighteen months, threw up her hands and left the site. Nada since then--other than occasional call for such a category that goes unanswered.

I miss Stella_Omega. I didn’t realize this is why (or one of the reasons why) they left.

I think the current category list fell into place in the very early 2000s, with some new categories added, and some category names changed.

@Bramblethorn did a hunt back not long ago.

As of October 1999 the categories were:

Fetish - Bondage, feet, panty, s&m, and other kinks and kinky things...
Erotic Couplings - Wild one-on-one consensual sex...
Erotic Poetry - Sensually sexual verse...
Exhibitionist & Voyeur - Watching, and being watched...
Group Sex - Orgies, swingers, and others...
Illustrated Stories - Stories with erotic photos and art...
Incest - Keeping it in the family...
Non Consent - What part of "no" didn't you understand?
Non Human - Aliens, androids, and more... [but with a lot of bestiality content that would no longer be allowed here]
Romance - Candlelight, wine, and a soft kiss...
Same Sex - Girls who like girls, and boys who like boys...
Toys - Battery-operated fruits & vegetables, etc...

The last category creation/deletion looks to have happened in about 2003. Since then, just minor changes to the names and descriptions.

She quite directly left saying she had been lied to and called a liar, because she asserted she'd been given the green light to collect views on opening a bisexual category and Laurel claimed otherwise. Eighteen months, which was seen as just a "keep them busy" ploy.

I was a principal software developer working on the website and associated applications for one of the country’s largest banks. They could add more categories or divide existing ones. They just don’t want to.

How easy would it be to separate the existing ~ 18k CD / TG stories?

My stories span both categories and I’ve read many others that do too. It seems like having a binary choice between the two could create more trouble.

It seems to me that accurate tagging and a few changes to to the portal could make searching work much better, especially if it had a “must not include” function.

Still, any existing stories with bad tags would fall through the cracks. Maybe a reader tag recommendation system?

Well, we could just combine all of the over twenty straight categories into one--like the gay male and lesbian category do. Right? Cause nearly every story here involves more than one category, right?

But that's where discussion in the last year or so is saying Literotica is headed. Just tags.

Creating another category would be relatively easy. The problem is what to do with the existing stories and how to recategorize them. You could let the authors do it but many stories would never get recategorized.

I think that's the problem. There are close on 50,000 stories in GM and Lesbian (let alone what might be in other categories), and who knows how many might be better categorised as bi-sexual. It's an impossible task to recategorise that number of stories. People seem to forget the site's been running for more than twenty years, and a huge proportion of authors may no longer be active.

It should be possible if you crowd-source the work.

For any story in the current TG/CD category, give authors advance notice of the category split and an opportunity to designate which way each story should go.

If they choose, job done. If they don't, once the category splits, their story gets displayed in both categories for a while, with a prompt to the reader: "Can you help us? We've split the old Transgender/Cross-Dressers category into two new categories and we're not sure where this one should go. At the end of the story we're going to ask you whether this story belongs in Transgender or Cross-Dressers." Then at the end, just before the star rating: "Which category do you think this story should be in? Transgender [] or Cross-Dressers []."

Once the story gets enough votes to show a clear majority for one or the other - could set it at something like nineteen out of twenty, forty out of fifty, seventy out of a hundred - then that determines where it goes. If you can't find enough readers with a strong opinion about which category it should go in, maybe the decision doesn't need to be made yet. And if you get to a hundred voters and you still can't get 70% of them to agree on whether it's a TG story or a CD one... maybe it's both, and maybe it's okay for it to be visible in both?

Yeah, there's enough of a gray area for CD vs. TG that I'm not sure it's actually desirable to force a choice under the current system. But that's just one of many areas where the current "only one category" system causes problems, and one more reason to abandon it.

My dream is to have GAY MALE ROMANCE category. Straights have it. Why we should not?
I was a couple of times bashed in private emails "it's just a romance, it's not what people want in GMC" "it's just boys love, no real gay man likes it, it's for women!" - and so on! It was rather unpleasant.
I sometimes feel ostracized in the category dominated by sex snippets and rather rough sex stories.
And the problem is the same on Nifty! They have Lesbian romance but not Gay romance.
Why is that, it's so unfair.

As for Transgender and Crossdressers - It could be:
Transgenders & Non-binary
Crossdressers, Drag Queens, Femboys, and maybe even Cosplay

Although I have stories that are somewhere between trans and crossdresser - so for me it would be very hard to decide.
