I'm a 31/y/o/m, I am in the gym very regularly for my profession. Due to this and my profession and am sore, very sore frequently. I have never got a massage due to the fear that I will get an erection, they happen very easily for me. I'm not interested in happy endings, or being naked in front of another, but if I become hard, will it be a problem, or is this something I should not worry about?

Thanks for the help.

Proper massages are done with a sheet over the client. The masseuse or masseur will usually show you the room, hand you the top sheet, invite you to take off your clothes and get on the massage table, and then leave the room so you can take off your clothes privately. When they come back in, you are usually lying face down on the table.

The massage usually starts on the back side, first because there are more muscles accessible there, and secondly because having their back touched feels less intrusive for most people and allows them to become comfortable more easily. So if you have an erection, it will not be noticed untill at least halfway to two-thirds through the massage when it is time to turn over.

If you do have an erection during the massage, just tell the masseuse or masseur to spend some extra time on the back. You can use up the whole time period without ever having to turn over. The worst that happens is that you don't get the quads massaged.

At the end, the masseuse / masseur will leave the room so that you can get dressed in private.

it won't be a problem it happens all the time.

sore

if you are constantly sore due to work and exercise you should cut down a bit to give yourself a recovery period.

A proper rub down with a professional will be just that professional!

Lay back and enjoy.

Lurker here. It is my professional obligation to answer.

I am a Licensed Massage Therapist in Oregon (the state with the highest standards and requirements for massage professionalism). I can assure you that any massage therapist with experience will think nothing of an erection. During my education, we studied the body's natural reaction to touch stimulation and this situation was thoroughly covered.

Your massage therapist should be aware that the response is often uncontrollable and by no means intentional. If they are a true professional, they will simply ignore an erection. An erection will certainly embarrass you more than it will affect them.

Contrary to an amount of popular belief, erections can occur during massage of the most remote areas. It's just a parasympathetic reaction to relaxation, which is the reason most people seek massage in the first place. Think nothing of it! I'm certain any proper therapist will do the same! :)

Edit: How BertrandRussell describes the massage process is accurate.

Coverings should be provided at all times during the massage. In fact, a rule of thumb is that all areas should be concealed EXCEPT that actively being massaged. You can request your feet to be bared if you are too hot, but otherwise you should be covered.

As a therapist, I would recommend that you do not forfeit frontal massage in favor of dorsal (the back of the body). Massage is most effective when equally balanced throughout the body. If one portion of the body is favored, the client may have feelings of being off balance (which is potentially dangerous when becoming lethargic and dismounting the massage table) and can put the body, for lack of better terms, "out of whack". Besides, exercise taxes all muscles of the body and every muscle deserves some amount of treatment. I guarantee that the outcome of a full body massage versus one of limited focus will feel much more natural, effective, and thorough. The effects will also last longer, so long as the massage therapist is quality.

(Excuse my verboseness! It's a bad habit of mine. :))

I'm a masseur...

I'm a professional massage therapist and I've never had a problem with men getting erections. That is not to say that it doesn't happen - it has. Not all the time, but sometimes, when someone is very relaxed and comfortable...things happen. No big deal. I'm a professional and I deport myself in a professional manner. I know that the client may be embarrassed, especially since I'm a guy, so I just ignore it and the "problem" usually takes care of itself. Don't worry about it yourself. Just relax and enjoy your massage. :D

To do with the soreness try taking fish oil tablets helps my inflammation from hard workouts.

There's something about massages that makes one vunerable. I always fall asleep during massages

I went in for a STD test once a long time back and was worried about sprouting a boner when the doc said I had to take my pants off. At the time I didn't really know they do a visual examination too. Anyway truth be told I was so damn nervous instead of a boner shorty decided to hunker down and shrink up.

Point being you might surprise yourself with how your body reacts and mainly just do it. It's not like you're asking for sex and in the off chance that it does happen, is that really so bad? ;)
