Gabrielle concerned about what he sees occurring on Earth sends for Mylitta. Almost instantly she is before him. They are on the observation deck and can see what is occurring on Earth. A man appears on the screen before them, walking down the street in Minneapolis during the early fall.

“A human, Dan is at a critical point in his life and needs help from above. He will have several difficult choices over the next few weeks – you are to be his guardian angel, help him through the difficulties he will face.

This is your first visit to earth Mylitta? Be careful down there. There are many temptations and your feelings will be… stronger than what you are used to.”

With that Gabrielle wishes you luck, shakes your hand, and asks.

“Any questions before you are off on your first mission?”

"Dan." I spoke the word and a shiver ran down my body, the gentle rustle of my pale golden wings evidence of my excitement. I've been waiting to get called upon for all of my life and now that it was happening I couldn't seem to find my voice. "Dan." I said again, the only word I seemed able to form. A large smile split my face with wondrous joy. I wanted to make a grand entrance onto Earth but knew that attention in that magnitude was against the rules. "I will do what I can for him." I promised drawing a deep breath I held it in my lungs for a moment then turned and left.

I had every intention on just appearing before my Dan but the temptation to spread my wings and fly was just too much and the last 300 yards I stretched out my wings and soared on the winds. My entire life I had been getting into trouble for flying too close to Earth but I couldn't do anything about the fact that Earth's winds were more playful. That the trades over mountains and the oceans had different pushes and pulls then the thinner and much lacking winds of the heavens.

"Ah." There was a pull in my body and I knew that I was close. Tucking my wings in, I dove for Earth using building, billboards and trees along with a little slight of hand to mask my arrival. Everything was going just as planned until I landed.

The crunch of dried leaves and wet soil under my bare feet was a pleasant but was accompanied with many other things that my mind didn't have a chance to sort though before it changed and not all of it was good. Smells. Thousands of them threatened to drown me. My head swam and I couldn't get my grounding. I knew when I stumbled to my knees but beyond that there wasn't much else I knew. It was just too much. Gabrielle had said stronger not overwhelming.

I stood and the dizzy light headed feeling of too many things going on at once followed me when I wished it would have stayed. I needed to find Dan. My too sharp eyes picked up every detail that couldn't be seen from miles and miles up in the skies. Why was everyone looking at me? All the stares and pointing made me uncomfortable and I tried running, my panic instinct telling me there was danger but it didn't know where it came from.

The loud blaring from a truck horn, screams, then unbelievable pain.

I had walked out into a street without realizing it and had been hit by a delivery truck. Tears prickled behind my eyes and there was a sickly wetness that burned down the entire left side of my body where it had been dragged along the asphalt. My bare skin was no protection against the sharp edges of the little stones and there were cuts and bruises everywhere. I moved from the ground that I had been thrown on and a sharp piercing jolt of pain overcame me. There were people starting to form around me and the panic that had been replaced with pain once again showed it's ugly face and forgetting about the injuries gained from the truck accident I ran. Ran until there wasn't anyone around me, then took to the skies.

There was something wrong with my left wing. Something seriously wrong. I was crying now. I didn't know what to do. I couldn't fly straight and I didn't know where to go. There was a fire of pain with every tiny movement of my body and I didn't know how long I could take this.

Dan.

It was a beautiful word that shined in my mind. I knew I was close to him, which was a good thing because there was a wetness coming from the top bend of my wing that was coating my feathers in a thick red. With enough of them my feathers wet I knew that I would soon fall.

"DAN!" I screamed falling. There had been a wire that I hadn't seen, it closelined me leaving me spiraling down in a mess of arms, legs and wings. Defeated I laid in a pile and just wait for something to happen. For someone to come get me. Little black spots danced and swayed in my vision and I smiled not knowing the meaning of them. It was beautiful in it's own way. The spots soon grew larger and started eating more of my sight and still I smiled and the playful childlike dots. "Dan." I whispered the name to myself. "Dan." It seemed that I wasn't going to find him and I would be called back never to return to Earth again. That made me sad and tears of sarrow joined the already freely falling tears of pain.

"My Dan..." And then the spots won and everything went dark.

Dan was walking down the street. It had been a hard day of work – big company meeting that had lasted three hours, lower than expected profits, company needed to lock overseas to cut production costs. He was an engineer at plant three and wasn’t overly concerned about losing his job, instantly at least, but many of his friends worked in the foundry and that was surely one of the first items to go. Walking and thinking, oblivious to the noise and commotion around him, too focused on the problems of work, the stress of the day.

Suddenly a crash, a woman’s scream, suddenly I’m caught up and the commotion of the events occurring. A creature, a woman, falling from the sky: have to catch her, to save her, but I’m a step too late to break the fall. Most of the passersby barely even noticing this beautiful creature, or even give her fate a moment of thought. Her cuts clearly evident, bumps and bruises already forming bruises, she looks fragile and, and almost broken. Knowing she needs, I take of my jacket and lay it around her, then gently scoop her up, and start the short trek to my humble abode. Within minutes we’re at my door, and I have this women laid on my bed.

She’s unconscious and still bleeding from several cuts on her body. After setting her down I hurry off to get a wash clothe and some warm soapy water. Tenderly touching her soft skin and removing the crusting blood. An elegance and glow emanating from her as the dirt, dust, and blood is removed. Slowly I work over her body, after as much of the blood is removed as I can I focus my attention on comforting her, a cool wet washcloth placed on her forehead. A glass of water nearby and a soft blanket placed over her. I try not to be too nosey, but I continuously find my eyes moving towards the gold of her wings… what is she?

After a couple hours I go to start supper, tomato soup, something easy, but hopefully something that will comfort her if/when she awakens. As the soup is finished I hear a bit of rustling from the bedroom. I get a bowl of soup and a grilled cheese on a plate and then start down the hall to the bedroom.

I woke up to the delightful knowledge that my body was still in pain, a milder effect of what it was but still uncomfortable. I was in a room and it was dark. I didn't know where I was and as a normal precaution I brought my wing's into my body. It was one of the ways that angels were able to walk among humans without cause a stir. There had never been pain doing this before but then again I had never tried to do it while I was hurt. The result was a wingless back but a huge wing imprint down the entire length of my back, down my backside the bottom feather imprint brushing the bottom curve of my butt.

"Where-" I started but my throat was dry and looking around I was grateful to find that whoever had rescued or captured me had at least left me a glass of water. I sat up and drank the cool glass of water in large gulps. When the blanket that had been covering me slid down my body I noticed that I had been cleaned and cared for. The action of thoughtfulness had me leaning towards rescuer more so then captor. The glass was empty before my thirst was fully satisfied but it was much better then before. Having never been to Earth before food and water hadn't been a need for me because angels didn't need such things in heaven but it seemed that while on Earth I would have to be more like them to help my Dan.

I closed my eyes and a delicious smell met my nose. It wasn't a smell I was familiar with but it had my mouth watering and my stomach tightening. Was this hunger pains? It didn't seem fair that my body still throbbed and burned from my earlier accident and yet it was introduced to yet another aliment before the first one had healed. It was true that my body was healing at a faster rate then a human's but I still didn't appreciate then new arrival of pain before I was ready for another one.

Wrapped up in my own thought it wasn't until the footsteps were at the door that I realized that someone was here. I quickly unwrapped myself from the covers and jumped from the bed. I didn't know who would greet me when they opened the door but the fear of the unknown had me eyeing the window. I know that the state that my wing was in would make flying hazardous and I gave up on that thought just as quickly when I noticed that the smell was closer.

This person must be bringing me food. I smiled and waited standing near the doorway. I couldn't wait to have my first meal and my stomach rumbled in agreement.

I hesitate at the door, hearing lots of rustling inside. I give a light know, and then softly say “Everything ok?” I push gently on the door, it slowly creaking open and light from the hallway streaming in. “I’m coming in.” As I push through the door, slowly peaking around I see you looking at the window “It’s ok.” Said reassuringly my eyes on you taking in the majesty of your body exposed. Quickly looking down embarrassed at you being so naked and, and awake. “Um,” I start. “I promise its ok. I’m Dan.” Walking in looking down at the floor; “I though you might be hungry so I made you something to eat.” I set it on the desk in the room, “It’s not much, but it’s something.” I can see your back now, wings gone – curious though, still indents like they are hidden. “You’ve had a bit of a rough, day, an accident.” Not sure how much you’ll remember, slightly uncomfortable at your nakedness, “Um, can I get you anything else? Clothes perhaps?”

"I know who you are." I smiled at you. "You're My Dan. I'm here to help you." I speak the words as if there is no question to them. It was simple from my stand point. Gabrielle sent me here to you and I was to be your watcher.

Dan mentioned something about food and my eyes automatically locked on to the things he set on the desk. It was the source of the smell and I could see the steam gently raising from the bowl. "No, no this is perfect." I assure Dan trying not to run to the desk. I got there with a few hurried steps and without waiting picked up the bowl and drank straight from it's edge. The soup was hot and burned my tongue but I was starving and just like the water the soup was gone too fact. "It's incredible!" I look up at Dan a trace of the soup outlining my top lip. "And this what is this?" I ask picking up the grilled cheese to take a big bite of it. "Ummm." The outside was crispy yet the inside was gooey and warm. "This is delicious." I tell Dan around a bite of the grilled cheese. The simple meal was perfect and I was as giggly as a schoolgirl. "Thank you." The last bite of the sandwich was just enough to fill me and there was a large smile on my face as I turned back to Dan.

He wasn't looking at me and seemed to be uncomfortable. Maybe it was because he had seen me with my wings out. I looked back and noticed that my wings were leaving bumps along my back. I concentrated a little more and my back smoothed out and the wings blended themselves farther into my back and like magic the shadows of my wings appeared like a tattoo that moved with me and if touched would gave the faint feeling of the feathers themselves. Proud of myself I spun around and looked to Dan in hopes that it was better and would help to ease him. It didn't and it wasn't until he talked of clothes that it hit me. Human's had this need for clothing while back home the clouds and mist of heaves hid what did not need to be seem without thought.

"Yes, clothes would be nice." I nod looking around for the discarded blanket. With it in hand I quickly wrap it around my body like a draped toga dress. "I'm sorry." I smile weakly in hopes that being covered would raise Dan's eyes to me. "The food was wonderful." I try again to ease Dan but he was the first human I'd ever communicated with and wasn't 100% sure what would help.

For an angel I was impatient and stood before Dan my hands moving to each side of his face to tilt his head to meet my eyes. "I am Mylitta. Your guardian angel." My hands drop from his face slowly as I spoke to him and rest quietly at my sides. "Tell me what I can do to help you."

Looking up into your eyes, not sure whether to laugh or believe in what you are saying. “My, my guardian angel? You help me?” repeating the words, finding this event a bit confusing and surreal. This giddy girl before me an angel? She seemed so young, energetic, passionate, surely that is not the way an angel would be. The bed sheet draped like a toga, I chuckle lightly.

“So Mylitta, you were in an accident – are you sure you are ok?” trying to change the subject. He was pretty sure this angel couldn’t solve his problems. Best to focus on her first. “Do you have a place to stay tonight, it’s getting late?”

Standing now, walking towards her, “you seem so familiar” hand on her chin gently tilting it, “but I know we’ve never met, it’s just…, nevermind.” The shape of her face and the sparkle in her eyes reminded me of my fiancé, who had died two years earlier. Who can she help me, she can't even care for herself.

He was... laughing at me. My eyebrows furrowed and my lips turned down in a frown. Did he not believe me? "Do you not believe me? What cause do I have to lie to you?" I had come here not knowing how things would be but the last thing I thought I would have to do is convince Dan of my being here.

And now he was changing the subject. I wasn't sure what he would gain from this but I let him do as he pleased. "I am a little worse for wear but it is nothing that I can't handle." True I hadn't expected to be overcome with all these new feelings, smells and emotions but I think I was adapting to it very well. I thought about it for a moment then closed my eyes. There had been training on this should it ever happen and it had come back to me. With my eyes closed I saw my inner light, the way it burned in a tightly knit ball of energy. Taking a deep breath I saw the ball contract and then release as my breath flowed out. In my minds eye the ball expanded until it filled every part of my body just under the skin. At every scratch, bump and bruise a bright golden light shone. A tingle rippled over my body and when I opened my eyes the light was gone, along with all injuries on my human body. I rolled my shoulders and felt my wings move and knew that my wing was still damaged.

"I will stay here of course." It seemed like the only option. I was supposed to watch Dan and I wasn't sent here to watch from afar. "How else do I help you?" My head tilted to the side and one of my eyebrows raised in question.

Dan approached my and took my chin under his finger staring at my face. I took it as a sign that everything was fine now. That he no longer questioned who and what I was and that he would open up to me. But then he shook his head and the warm blossoming felling in my chest wilted. "Have I done something to offend?" The way he cut himself off was strange to me. "Please forgive me if I have. This is my first calling here and everything is still new and wondrous. It's as if all the years of my life watching did little to nothing in preparing me for this." I smiled in forgiveness.

“I’m sorry…” softly muttered, “this is all just a bit new to me.” Touching her warm flesh was like experiencing a bit of heaven, there was no other way to describe it, just that it provided a bit of peace. “You haven’t done anything wrong.”

I turn to start to walk from the room, “I’ll make up the guest room, it isn’t much, but hopefully you’ll find it satisfactory.” I turn to start to walk away, but then hesitate and say, “I’m not sure what you’re supposed to help me with, I’m doing ok.”

I lead her down the hall to the guest room, the bed is cluttered with books and paper, and just memories, memories of my fiancé, or our life together. For the most part I put the books and such on the floor in the corner, but the picture of her I place face down on top of the dresser. I make the bed with dark green satin sheets. After making the bed I open the closet door, there might be some clothes that fit you in here. “Is there anything else I can get you? Otherwise I think I’m going to call it a night and get some sleep.”

"New to you?" I asked confused. "Aren't you from here?" I didn't know why this would be new to him. Maybe it was me being here that was new to him, the fact that a being was placed in his life without so much of a say so.

Dan turned to walk away and I just followed not just what else I could do. Being told that a person that I was sent after to watch was 'okay' made things ruffle my feathers, which made me wince. Knowing who it was that I was with and that it wasn't me per-say that made him uncomfortable made me feel like it was okay to do what I was about to do. Walking behind Dan I unfurled my wings and gave them a good shake as more jolts of pain joined the fading first one.

I didn't know what this room was but it felt sad and lonely and I didn't like it. I looked around and noticed books, papers and pictures of someone that made Dan's light shrink. It was sadness and I wondered who the person in the pictures was.

I looked in the closet that Dan opened for me and shook my head no. "This is better then I could have hoped for." It wasn't a lie, stepping into the room I threw out some of my inner light and it seemed to soften the sorrow and lighten the good that was once there. "Thank you." I was already in the closet pulling out a little yellow sleep dress. I wasn't too aware of what was fashionable and I wished to myself that I had paid more attention while I had been watching.

Dan was still in the room when I started to unwrap the blanket from my body. It fell with the gentle hiss of cloth trailing down someone's body. It pooled at my feet and there wasn't a single thought of shame or embarrassment as I stepped out of the blanket pool and slipped on the nightie.

"I guess this is calling it a night. Sleep well. No wait that's not it." I pulled my bottom lip in thinking of that saying that they say. "Oh yes, that's it. Good night, sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite." I'd never slept before and I didn't know what it felt like to be sleepy but I smiled nevertheless ready to at least try. Behind me my wings fanned out, they seemed to be restless after having been brought into my skin.

“Well goodnight” I utter, noticing the soft flurry of moving feathers behind you.

I’m up early the next morning, tossing and turning all night, pondering why this angel was sent to me; what is she here for? I make myself and omelet and a second, not sure if you are really a breakfast person. Looking through the paper I start with the sports page, but am quickly onto the business section – yep, there is it, plastered all over the front page about the companies plan to move production. Now the fun at work will really begin.

Dan knows he should focus on the problem at hand, but finds his mind wondering to the angel in the bedroom, her eyes were so much like his fiancé’s, the same sparkle and life. Did she know what she did to him, the desire it fueled in him? But how could she, she was an angel, but he knew then why she was there. He needed to let go of the past, to move on with his life. She was the answer; it was so suddenly clear.

After three hours I was up and ready to go. It seemed needing to rest hadn't hit me yet and I wondered around the house. I didn't go anywhere that the door wasn't already open and I didn't open anything that was closed. The way that was in less then 45 minutes I was once again back in the room that was given to me. I had broken my rule about not opening closed doors once when I peeked in to see if Dan was still sleeping. He was so I sat at the very edge of the bed and watched him for a bit. I didn't know what he was dreaming about but he frowned a lot and the ridge between his eyebrow wrinkled often. "Have sweet dreams My Dan." I whisper patting his feet before I left.

Now I sat in the window in my room watching again. Not Dan but the people who lived around him. I watched the lights of cars move, the night owls of the city walk to and fro until that too because bland. Sighing I looked around the room, I didn't want to touch anything and moving my ear towards I could hear the whisper of his sheets telling me Dan was still in bed. It was when I wasn't paying attention that I spied a pile magazines. Curious I turned the upside down magazine over and read the word 'Elle'. I didn't know what this was but the lady o the front cover was very pretty and I liked her dress so I opened it in hopes to see more of this dress and even maybe the lady. It turned out that the pile of magazines were two year old covers of Elle, Vouge and Runway. I was so captivated by the magazines that I hadn't realized that the sun had come up or that there was sounds coming from the kitchen.

"Oh!" Clinking of dishes, the rustling of paper and the smell of food. "Dan's up!" I jumped up from the ground that I had been sitting on all night and shook myself away. Reading through the magazines made me confident in what and what not to dress in, unaware that the fashion claims were two years old.

"Good morning My Dan." I came out wingless and wearing a black dress that I found in the closet and posed myself on the couch with a serious face on. "Don't I look like a successful, powerful, confident leading business woman of now days America?" I asking quoting a clip from one of the magazines. Dan was a business man so I wanted to make sure that on my first day I didn't embarrass him at work. "Too serious? What about this? Is this better?" I got up and leaned against the table with a smile. "What says I work with Dan more?"

I moved to stand next to Dan but a lone plate of something that looked like mixed eggs caught my eye. "Is this for me?" I knew it was because there was a plate in front of him which would mean this one had to be for me. "Thank you!" I clapped my hands together looking for a fork. "So what are we doing at work today? I want to make sure we're prepared." I made a fist and nodded my head ready for war if Dan needed it.
