They're still without power down there, the news says. Cat's place of work will have it, on generator, likely enough. And I'd be amazed if he had never gotten a generator system for his home. The Jungle Compound always seemed a less practical sort of spot. But power is only half the story. There's communications lines, roofs, the sandbar they've all built on... *sigh* It'll be good to get word.

We sustained some damage but I'm here. (If it was legal I think I would marry my generator.)
Damage report:
Roof, no shingles but it's still there.
Windows, walls and doors held up. (Cats are a bit frazzled but okay. I can't make a move inside the house without both of them being underfoot.)
No power. (I found my Electric Meter in the empty lot next door, buried halfway into a tree.) Generator is running so I won't lose my food and the cells and laptop are charging. I'm running the computer off the generator right now. (I'm surprised the phones work.)
My wife came through unscathed, hell she even forgot about her tooth. (Although she did remember to keep her bellybutton ring clean and pampered.)
I'll have several new scars from this one. 10x10 window in the hospital blew in right after we got the patients out of the room and I was closing the door. Oops.
We have enough water to last us for a while, not to mention food for at least a month and enough tequila and cigars to keep me happy for a while.
In West Palm Beach we are under a curfew from 1900-0700 right now and for the forrseeable future.
Three things to note:
Do not even joke around about relieving me of the hassles f my generator like one of my neighbors did this morning. It will be inside at night, (as will my grill,) and I do understand the new laws about Home Defense. (I was sitting outside last night trying to relax while I listened to gunfire and sirens not far from here. The games have already begun.)
I will be getting that damned Tattoo! (As soon as the tattoo place opens and has enough power to run it's AutoClave.)
If you expect me to help you, do not let me get things ready for you, buy extra supplies including games for your kids as well as make sure I have extra beds and bedding for you and yours then pull a vanishing act. Also after pulling said vanishing act please do not let me sit there worrying about how you and yours are doing. That will not sit well with me. As a matter of fact it does wonders to my powers of trust in people in general.
Ahh well, enough of that shit.
Like I said, my wife and I are okay, we'll be roughing it for a while but we'll get through this. (As soon as my freezer resembles something from Antarctica in the middle of winter I'm switching the generator to the hot water heater. Hot Showers!!!!!!!!!

PS In case I get snappish, I am waiting and trying to hear from a good friend of mine. She lost the roof from her Mobile Home south of us yet still decided to go home last night with her brother and her two children. (She has no husband, she threw the asshole out a year ago.) She didn't tell us she was heading home, she just disapeared, and we haven't heard from her since. While I'm upset that she did this I understand it. I do have to say that I am truly worried for her. (Yes I trust her brother, he's a nice guy who's good with fixing things, but I haven't heard from her.) She's tough, she's resilient, and she weighs a whole 100 pounds and has two kids to worry about. I can't get hold of her and she's more than likely too busy to get hold of us. (Damn it why couldn't she have come home with us last night? I would have gladly taken her home today to check her place out. Damn it I'm worried.)
