That one didn't seem to dig as far inland. Glad you came through with a moderate difficulty. I' too, got lucky during the big Ice Storm up here, a few years back. I had power off for a mere score of hours, even though the devastation to the works of Man was wide and deep. Savor it. Being lucky in your life is irreplaceable.

Tore a path from Naples on the west coast to West Palm on the East Coast. We still don't have power and now they're forecasting for us to get power here sometime between November 15 to November 22. (Now that would be a Birthday Present.) No power doesn't bother me much except for the cold showers. Shrinkage sucks! :p

Oh man am I savoring life.

Hey SeaCat,

Glad to hear you and the Mrs made it through safe and sound. This hurricane season has been crazy!
Hope you have your gun handy for any of those idiots that come around checking things out and helping themselves.
Take care and stay safe,
C

I'm always prepared for that, but not too many problems with it so far. Hopefully it wont get any worse.

Thanks for the well wishes.

Tonight is a very introspective evening. I drove around a bit in the daylight today and was able to see the damage done, and the people rebuilding. It does make me think and also makes me thankfull for what I have. One thing this storm has done is to reinforce my views/beliefs on having fun in life and to hell with the rules. (My wife commented today that she agrees with my views.) Life is here to be enjoyed, piss on the spoilsports.

Got the "witches Coven" upset at me today. (That's what my wife calls some of my co-workers.) Our friend showed up for work today. I had heard through another friend that she and her kids were okay, her brother had tarped her Mobile Home, and that the reason she couldn't get hold of me was she had accidently run over her cell phone. That was great but being able to see and talk to her was better.

I got the Coven upset at me because when our friend came up to my floor to tell me in person she was okay I wrapped her in a hug and kissed her soundly. (It was a choice between kicking her butt or kissing her for making me worry.) I can tell you that as I stood there holding her I had tears in my eyes. There are very few people I truly call my friend and I don't want to lose one.

The coven were also upset because when I asked her if she needed anything she replied she needed blankets and some food. when I was released for lunch I punched out and made a fast run home to pick up blankets and food for her and her kids. The blankets I have plenty of, the food well I would rather starve myself than see my wife, my friends or kids go hungry. (Then again as long as I have a knife I will never go hungry. There is always something moving about that I can find a way to cook.)

Are we missing anyone still?

Hey Cat. Thanks for the update. And the example. Not feeling good about myself or my species at the moment.

Haven't heard from shereads, as far as I know.

They're still without power down there, the news says. Cat's place of work will have it, on generator, likely enough. And I'd be amazed if he had never gotten a generator system for his home. The Jungle Compound always seemed a less practical sort of spot. But power is only half the story. There's communications lines, roofs, the sandbar they've all built on... *sigh* It'll be good to get word.

South Florida is not a sandbar! It's a River of Grass. And of gas, but unfortunately there's no electricity to work the gas pumps.

Colly, Cdog and Assorted Pornographers, I'm alive but in dire need of dirty stories. FEMA promised a truckload of erotica, but they ran out after the first hour. People who got there on time say the quality of the stories was sub-par. Lots of run-together consonants ("I'm cummmminnnngggg!") and more than one "Wake up, sleepyhead."

There's a surplus of FEMA vibrators - with no batteries!

Charley H, don't worry about Juan. He flew over my house at about 95mph just after the eyewall passed. He looked fine. Kind of nervous, but a lot of people are afraid of flying.

And the cooking. You know how to make "sun tea," right? Do NOT try making hamburgers that way.

I just wasted a mouthfull of Tequila by spraying it on my monitor after reading this.

Sher, so happy you're okay.

Cat

No shortage on gas, too many people think Franks and Beans make a great survival food.

Is it true that you can make an emergency tequila substitute out of very old milk?

The rest of us feel pretty good about you, though. Don't forget that. It counts.

Bob,

No need to feel bad about being human. These individuals are not happy with themselves and try to take it out on other people. They can't abide by others being different than they are and when they see someone trying to be happy or help others they must make their presence known.
