Well, they don't make most men's shoes like they used to, but it's usually possible with a quality vintage shoe assuming no real leather damage. Most shoes made these days - even ones that look nice and are somewhat pricey - are more disposable than not.
On a side note, most women's shoes can be repaired and re-heeled and/or re-soled if you find the right cobbler. Same with purses/bags.
